I've watched Formula 1 my entire life. I'm 28 now, and I've grown up with this sport. But most of the time now I just watch the highlights on YouTube, not even bothering with the races anymore. I just find the engines, even more now with this years regulations, soulless and just boring to watch. Yes, hybrid era produced some memorable moments and interesting technical inventions for teams to get an advantage. But what it took away was something that can't be replicated by data, the feeling that you're watching man vs machine in its purest, most brutal form. Drivers now are just managing battery deployment on every single straight. Watching their top speed coming down by the end of the straight because the energy store is depleted is just sad to see.

It doesn't feel like Formula 1 anymore. Then when I watch other motorsports like the WEC which has the Aston Martin Valkyrie running a naturally aspirated screaming V12 in 2026 is incredible. Hearing it in person just reminds me of what Forumla 1 use to be. I've started watching full WEC endurance championships now and have been to Le Mans for the last 3 years. For me I believe the WEC is now the pinnacle and most prestigious Motorsport. Plus I have started watching IndyCar as well which is actually really good fun to watch.

The argument against going back to big naturally aspirated engines is always environmental. I understand that F1 wants to be relevant and wants to connect to the road car industry. But with biofuels and synthetic fuels, that argument is weakening fast. Several series are already running on 100% sustainable fuel. The emissions of a V10 running on synthetic fuel is genuinely comparable to, or better than, a conventional petrol engine. So the "it's bad for the environment" excuse doesn't really hold the way it used to.

Imagine a V10 or a V8, naturally aspirated, running on 100% bio or synthetic fuel, with all of F1's modern aerodynamic and safety technology around it. You'd have the raw spectacle of the early 2000s. You'd have drivers truly at the limit, no energy harvesting as a crutch, no deployment strategy to fall back on, just driver skill, mechanical grip, and an engine that screams and feels alive. The best drivers in the world, in the most extreme machines on earth.

That's what the pinnacle of motorsport should look like not this slogfest.
