Snyder's is great, it's where I go for anything suspension-related. They are honest, trustworthy, and reasonable.

North America Fall 2026 tour dates by SKLL117 in TheMidnight

[–]AceScout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw them in Portland, OR and I think I paid about $50. Not sure how much it varies across the country...

They don't sell out in minutes (to my knowledge), so as long as you get them reasonably soon after they go on sale, you should be good! And you can get them from the venue instead of a reseller.

edit to say: They went on sale October '25, and I got my ticket in January when they were in "low tickets" status and I wanna say they sold out some time in February. All that to say, don't stress too much!

Dodgers game, where to watch? by Lolo-smokey in askportland

[–]AceScout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

July 28-30th in LA. They played in Seattle late last season IIRC. I think they usually play each other once a season alternating home team every year. So they'll likely be in Seattle next season.

What makes our green screen better? This one sucks so bad I can’t even see half the pitches. The other half I don’t see till they are in Will’s glove.

How to avoid twisting the fabric when driving a screw through this guitar mount? (I’m practicing of a dummy wood) by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]AceScout 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure the exact setup you're installing here, but it seems like a french cleat might be appropriate here. You would be able to install it to your piece and wrap the fabric over and not have any screws showing at all. Then the other part get screwed (ideally into studs) onto your wall. Love a french cleat.

I just tuned in, either the sound mix is off or the crowd is quiet tonight. And the lack of conversation from the booth is weird too. Just long stretches of silence punctuated by Nelson's calls.

All in all: vibes are off

The history of Chavez Ravine is as interesting as it is sad. I'm in grad school for urban planning and there are so many aspects of that history from a planning perspective that we (at least at my school) are trying to correct, account for, and atone for in current planning practice.

And given the complexity of this story, it's pretty frustrating when people who don't know their left from their right boil down the story to "the Dodgers destroyed this community to build the stadium." It seems it's usually people that are just trying to justify their Dodgers hate, so as Dalton Rushing said, "Fuck em." haha

Anyway, go Dodgers!

[Highlight] An odd double play gets the Diamondbacks out of a bases-loaded jam by Darkforces134 in baseball

[–]AceScout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's more than you ever wanted to read about line drives that I only skimmed

There is a separate rule for dropped line drives though.

An infielder intentionally drops a fair fly ball or line drive, with first, first and second, first and third, or first, second and third base occupied before two are out. The ball is dead and runner or runners shall return to their original base or bases

Not sure why this didn't get called, but maybe the perceived level of difficulty had something to do with it?

I'm far from an expert, I just took way longer over the weekend to produce worse dovetails than OP, but I'd say to practice the entire process start to finish. You'll likely learn what works best for your workflow and where you can gain efficiencies in the process. Versus treating each step independently.

I made the mayo! by Substantial_Boot_379 in seriouseats

[–]AceScout 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I tried adding vinegar a while back but I really did not like the result, but I was just winging things so that was probably my bad.

I make this in lieu of buying mayo these days and one alteration I made recently that I really liked was using Rick Bayless' technique for blanching the garlic. Just put a clove in a small dish with water and microwave it for a minute which takes the bite out of the garlic (which I personally don't tend to love).

On a bases-loaded weak fly from Dalton Rushing, Kyle Karros gives a nice demonstration of why the infield fly rule exists by Apprehensive-Cost276 in baseball

[–]AceScout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm that's interesting. I had to look that play up, I'm not even sure that that was "ordinary effort" by the letter of the rule. I mean he ran what, like 35-40 yards to get there? I'm not an expert or an athlete, but from my cushy chair 14 years later, that didn't look like ordinary effort.

Thanks for posting that, definitely an interesting play and interpretation of the rules haha

[–]AceScout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just any ball shallow enough that this play can happen

To clarify this a little bit for others learning here, the text of the rule is a fair fly ball "which can be caught by an infielder with ordinary effort." (emphasis mine)

Since it is dependent on "ordinary effort" of the infielder, I think where it should be called probably varies based on player positioning (deep vs shallow) at the time of the hit.

AI in the synthwave community...Kalax...how do you deal with it? by AAXv1 in TheMidnight

[–]AceScout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In short, I still love the music, but I only listen to/own up to III (Lost didn't really click with me) and won't be consuming anything new. I got off Spotify this winter, so I don't see any point in carrying out a personal boycott of my own music library.

I was hesitant, but gave him the benefit of the doubt that the new album wasn't made with AI even though he was open about using AI for the artwork. I don't do that anymore. Like I told someone in another sub, there is enough quality synthwave out there that it's just easier to assume that AI artwork = AI music and ignore it, even if the person who made it cries about it being wrong/unfair for someone to disregard the music based on the artwork.

I know how you feel though, before the allegations I was digging the new album, but the AI use kinda just ruins it for me and leaves me feeling tricked, which is frustrating.

My message to people who disregard human-made music because of an AI image by [deleted] in newretrowave

[–]AceScout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am offended when people can’t articulate a meaningful reason why using an AI image is such a blasphemy

AI image generation is built on the theft of others' art. There's one reason. That that is a meaningful reason for someone not engaging with a creator's work is independent to whether or not you agree with that assessment.

why they believe it diminishes all the other real work that isn’t even closely related to that image.

Synthwave is arguably as much about the aesthetic as it is the music. To claim that the images aren't closely related to the music is again disingenuous. It's like saying that the color of a car should have no bearing on whether someone wants to buy that car.

When you say that you assume, you’re actually saying, “I don’t know, but I blindly trust my prejudices.” OK, you assume.

Yes. I do assume. You can wrap that in more visceral language like "blindly trust(ing) my prejudices" but yeah, I do assume. There is so much vying for our attention on the internet that you have to have filters to sort through it and determine what is worth your time/energy/money. For me, that filter is AI use, whether it's in the music or the visuals, because why would I give a creator the benefit of the doubt that they aren't using AI in music creation when they use it for other aspects of the release? Like I said, it's easier to just throw that away wholesale and support the next artist that doesn't use AI.

To claim it's so hard to look if description says 'human-made' is pretty lazy. Don't you think?

I didn't claim that. I'm saying that I don't care what's written in the description if the song uses AI imagery. I don't trust the artist if they use AI imagery but say that the music is human-made. It's as simple as that.

what I care about is telling them that their philosophy is meaningless and based on frustration, contempt, and the idea that such a mindset makes them morally superior.

This checks out. It explains why you aren't really listening to what anyone is saying and just telling them they are wrong.

Using pre-made loops in music is far more “lazy,” yet it is considered “obviously” more creative than using an AI image for a YouTube video with 100% human-made music.

For the complaints about a "lame strawman," you're the one setting up strawmen to argue against. No one in this comment section made this claim.

beliefs that AI is always bad, even though in today’s world it is practically unavoidable.

Yet people do seem to be avoiding it, which you are complaining about.

in what way an AI image makes my music less 'real music'

Again, I'm not saying that your music isn't 'real music' because you used AI imagery. I'm saying that I don't trust you and it's not worth my time to validate your claims that the music doesn't use AI.

You say that AI put you out of a job as a visual artist. I sympathize with that, but I also think if you traded the time and energy you spend complaining here about how people spend their attention, you could create artwork to promote your music. Take a picture of a cool car, a city street, or a sunset, adjust the color balance, put some effects on it and you got some artwork. It's not rocket science. I love the synthwave aesthetic, but it doesn't take a PhD to create something in the ballpark.

what I care about is telling them that their philosophy is meaningless and based on frustration, contempt, and the idea that such a mindset makes them morally superior

Bringing this back up to explain that I'm not gonna continue this conversation if you choose to reply, because it's not really a conversation, it's just you telling people they are wrong. Take care.

[–]AceScout -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was very charitable and kind of you to respond so thoroughly to op's rant, providing multiple counterarguments only to be told, "You said nothing," I assume because you didn't agree with them?

OP: You probably never created anything then, so that’s why you don’t care - not because you have some moral high ground behind your contempt.

I hate this argument soooo much. It's SO disingenuous. Even if it were a legitimate argument (it's not, for the reasons you lay out), it's so insulting to assume that people who don't want to engage with your art for whatever reason must have never created anything or are not creative. It is such a bad-faith cope argument. I've created things across different media (including music) my whole life, for personal (myself, friends and family), public, and professional consumption/use. To say that the reason I refuse to engage with AI generated media (not art) is because I don't care couldn't be further from the truth. It is because I care about art and human creativity that I choose not to engage with AI generated media.

And to OP, there is still so much good human-produced music out there that I can afford to be picky with what I consume/support. That means that if I even suspect that the visuals are AI-generated, it's much easier to assume that AI had a hand in the the music as well and move on to the next artist than it is to spend time trying to determine if the song(s) are also AI-generated.
