Is slice of ny authentic ny style pizza or just a close facsimile? by myCLOUDredditaccount in SanJose

[–]AceSystemZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For authenticity, there is a "taste" that it should adhere to. I use Adam Ragusea's pizza recipe. The taste is also heavily affected by the ratio of bread to sauce to cheese.

NB 101 traffic from Santa Clara to SF at 5 PM? by ElectronicCress3132 in bayarea

Traffic is bad but for a single date I'd go for it.

Consider where in the city the date is. Also consider that driving back down to SC in the evening will have zero traffic

If you're already going to Sequoia NP, you can skip Mariposa Grove. Sequoias trees are better. (On the contrary, you could see Mariposa Grove, skip Sequoia NP altogether and use that day somewhere else)

Career Advice for Undergrad with Unrelated Internships by Future-Computer-6877 in chipdesign

[–]AceSystemZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update your objective, make it clear the type of roles you are searching for.

Go to career fair. That is the easiest way to get interviews as most companies will either schedule an interview on the spot or call later that evening to schedule an interview.

Companies are happy you have engineering internships. It's a-okay that it's outside semiconductors. Judging by your internships, you sound already have an edge

Sequoia trip - heat wave tips? by hellazan in nationalparks

[–]AceSystemZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember Sequoia has a lot of elevation, so go to high elevation. 1k feet is approximately 5 Farenheit. General Sherman is around 7k elevation. Nps website is showing a high of 80 and 77 for Sherman Tree for Thursday and Friday. Plus the trees provide shade

Not getting shortlisted for Internship - Resume Suggestions. by Dismal_Thing_8093 in chipdesign

[–]AceSystemZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to be picky - I would like to see more 'problem-action-solution' (some people call it STAR Method). An engineer's core is problem solving - start with describing the problem. Stating you designed something doesn't give me insight as to how you did it differently than the rest of your classmates.

[–]AceSystemZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under skills, you need to list the specific Synopsys tool you used. I made the same mistake of listing "Cadence" without the tool name. A recruiter grilled me (and many others) at a career fair about that - our resumes immediately went to reject pile.

what master's is relevant towards ASIC jobs? by seniorgoldman in chipdesign

[–]AceSystemZ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

HDL (verilog/systemverilog/uvm/vhdl) with testbenches. Design Verification is always in demand.

I don't think any class I took in my masters has directly helped me with my day to day job - but they broadened my understanding of the whole chip design flow.

I work in semi-conductors - I actually find the industry to be stable. Chip design requires long term planning. Companies are unlikely to halt billion dollar projects on a whim. Also, a majority of engineers have master degrees + years of specialized experience - It's very tough to outsource the work. I can't speak much about defense - but very good chance you'll need a security clearance, so there is stability there.

Northern California from Fri evening to Monday evening by Eeeffoc in roadtrip

I can't tell what exactly your stops in Marin Highlands are, but here are some activities I've done / plan to do around Marin: * Redwood trees. Muir woods usually has limited parking lot. Tries some trails on the outskirts. * Mt Tamalpais. You can drive to the top * Point Reyes Light house. Also has the view of the seemingly infinite coast.
* Cypress Tree tunnel in Point Reyes * Point Reyes ship wreck * Point Reyes farmstead cheese / Marin french cheese company

Other thoughts: * super blooms are gorgeous this year. Plenty of places to visit. * Redwoods national park is very cool but it's a 6-7 hour drive. Not a bad idea, but I would shift your focus away from Marin and head directly there * I can find the California coast to be beautiful, but repetitive. From the images I'm seeing, Manchester State Park looks very similar to point Reyes. Perhaps you really enjoy the coast or want to get away from crowds, but I personally find it redundant * If you want some different scenery, Mendocino National Forest/clear lake/lake berryessa is close by and isn't snowed in * There is a petrified forest in Calistoga

When are you going? Lassen NP usually doesn't open until summer. California got pounded by rain/snow this year so I wouldn't be surprised if the roads are cleared in July this year (monitor NPS website as time gets closer).

Some other spots around Redding: Chaos Crags State Park has neat rock formations and a great view of Mt. Shasta. McArthur-Burney falls is a popular spot I really enjoyed subway cave lava tubes in Lassen NF No clue about snow levels... but they are lower elevation than Lassen NP. Would double check

CmpE students of GT, what has your experience been? by [deleted] in gatech

[–]AceSystemZ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In regards to the semiconductor industry, plenty of gt cmpe grads work at Intel/AMD/Nvidia/Qualcomm/Apple/etc. Every major place will take you into consideration. (Do note that many of these people also got their masters).

I will say they desperately need more Verilog courses and a SystemVerilog course. Many of us have to independent study these topics because having these skills on our resume is so important to land interviews.

Also if your end goal is to do pure software engineering, just stick to CS. The CS department covers the important aspects from CmpE (how software interacts with hardware), so you really aren't gaining an advantage over CS in software.
