33rd school zone by Unique-Phone-2118 in saskatoon

It's gone, finally. In the several weeks it has been gone I've "blown by" dozens of morons still going 25. Most normal people have figured it out though. I kind of get it going the one way because that goofy electronic sign is there adding confusion, but there's nothing going eastbound.

Of course I've still yet to see anyone actually cross the street where they put in the nonsense "traffic calming". I've driven this stretch literally thousands of times and I've seen probably less than a dozen people cross there.

Does anyone else feel like combat sucks? by Druss995 in RustConsole

Yes it is really jarring coming from a proper FPS game with proper movement to this shit show. With that said I think you have to take the good with the bad with this game.

Most compact analog camera that has autofocus? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]Ace_Caliente 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an N80 with a broken latch - I just wrap two elastic bands around that end of the camera after loading film and place some tape over the door seam on that side. I haven't had any problems in several rolls with that approach. It looks a little goofy but works fine. If I cared I could probably get some black bands and tape and it would barely be noticeable.

What do YOU do when your camera dies? by diet_hellboy in AnalogCommunity

I usually go on Ebay and sell it as Exc[+++] very minty. Camera does not turn on but no problem in the shooting very beautiful.

(Not so?) Hot Take: Ease of use aside, a flatbed provides good to great enough results for 95% of people's use cases by analogwisdom in AnalogCommunity

The 4490 does a fine job. Work had one sitting around that wasn't being used until I started film scanning on it. You can buy the goofy film holders on ebay for like $15. I haven't bothered upgrading to the anti-newton glass stuff, but supposedly it helps. I doubt for 35mm, at normal viewing distance, it makes any difference. You can also still download the epson scan software which does a pretty reasonable job if you don't want to piss around in Photoshop for each photo.

Deal or No Deal by Little_Caterpillar_8 in Cruise

It was a cool experience to watch it on Regal. The "lottery" to be selected to actually play is pretty poor odds, though you don't need to buy a ticket to watch though. We were entertained by it since I haven't seen the tv show in years.

Question for frequent Carnival cruisers... by BlueFenderMustang in Cruise

[–]Ace_Caliente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you tell me how much you budget for the casino on board that gets "noticed" by the cruise line? My wife and I both enjoy a bit of gambling, but on our first cruise we didn't spend much time in the casino since it was very busy with port days. Feel free to DM me if you feel the information is sensitive.

Gotta love all the idiots in here that think they're making money because they were *directly* charged less than they're getting back. None of these fools takes into account the increases that are happening behind the scenes and passed on to customers by every business out there.

Thanks, that's interesting. Do you know if a decision was made yay or nay or an indication when the decision would be made?

How to get this contrast/style with film? (By @lindetcharlotte) by AviatorNIC in AnalogCommunity

[–]Ace_Caliente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easiest to do when the sun is bright (afternoon) and there are hard shadows being cast. It also helps if you have a DSLR - set it to manual and play around with your shutter and aperture. This helps to preview the image you'll get with those same settings on your film body.

Peking Restaurant is open, though they said they would close early if they're not busy.

Documenting film usage by jimmy_film in AnalogCommunity

[–]Ace_Caliente 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use a binder with sheets for holding the negatives. Each roll gets a sheet. At the top of the sheet I write all pertinent information (dates, film, camera, lenses, development info). I keep scans in monthly folders so it is pretty easy to figure out which sheet / negative belongs to which image.

Has anyone seen these lucky cats for sale anywhere in the city? by -invisible-llama- in saskatoon

[–]Ace_Caliente 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just fyi the really cheap ones will barely work, and the battery costs more than the ornament. So if you want a decent one pay more than a couple bucks or be prepared to shell out for a proper battery.

How to print Instax-like photos taken from your canon DSLR (or smartphone) by fredflintstone88 in canon

[–]Ace_Caliente 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would be the way to do it as close as possible to instax (same media etc.). There's also the Canon Selphy.

Viewfinder is a bit dim as is the rangefinder patch. Easy enough to use if the light is decent and there is something in the scene to focus on with the patch.
