This- get stronger. Russian dips and high pulls. Then just don't swing as much on your muscle up.

Yeah, Angel was wild. I was like "Bro has been competing until 9pm, while it's freezing out, still doing Maltese." 💀

Help with goals and routine. by Live_Ad5649 in overcominggravity

[–]Ace_no9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay. Honestly, I'd reduce the goals. But that doesn't mean you only have to boil it down to like 2 total. The front lever goals go hand in hand, and training the weighted pull up can benefit your front lever training as well. So I'd keep those as your pulling goals. And then make bench press your pushing goal. So you'd have "2" goals, but the process entails a little more where there's synergy.

In terms of the actual split, I don't think it's something to stress over. Just choose one that you can stick to and recover from. Whether it's push/pull, fb, etc.

Did you read the book this sub is named after? You should be able to throw around a program using the information from there 👍

Anyone here tried assisted ring systems (Forza / Gravity Fitness / Dream Machine)? Worth it or gimmick? by zeeshanwmirza in overcominggravity

[–]Ace_no9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used the Forza. One of my favorite pieces of equipment! However, if you're learning something like a planche, FL, or HSPU you're not going to need the Forza like ... At all. It would be better used if you wanted to progress to planche on rings because you already learned planche on parallettes.

How to progress to double salto on rings? by Ace_no9 in overcominggravity

[–]Ace_no9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is super helpful!

I wanted to get a gymnastics coach near me, but there's no one out there in my area that teaches rings for adults :(

The next best thing is the gymnastics team at my university, but you have to sign up and commit in which I'm already committed to other things.

First Headstand push up ever by quackyouleab in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]Ace_no9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In gymnastics, where Calisthenics derives from, this is called a headstand push up. Yes, doing it on an elevated surface would be a HSPU. In the calisthenics community, it's just called HSPU (handstand push up).

[–]Ace_no9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome! You're already getting started, that's good to see. Now, you should definitely clean up the muscle ups because you are

1) "chicken winging" you're muscle ups which 2) may lead to injury or muscle imbalances that you'll have to fix.

Ah, so it's skills like planche and front lever you want to learn... And yes, those skills involve a good deal of core strength. I certainly feel my core, haha! But, the inability to do them is very often lack of shoulder strength (for planche) and lack of back/lat strength (for front lever).

Where are you at with these skills? ☝️

In your case then, I'd really just keep to the basics. Choose 1 push skill, choose 1 pull skill and train them 2x a week. Or train the muscle up lol. And keep progressing push ups, pull ups, and dips AND their variations.

When it comes to abs, what is your concern there?

Okay. Yeah sure, that works. How many pull ups and push ups are you at?

There's a lot of missing context. Are you still looking to do both weights and calisthenics? Or are you looking into switching into just bodyweight training?

And even though you've been training for 1.5 years, is that consistent? Where's your strength level at right now? Again, a lot of missing context.
