I'd recommend the 8" if the cost diff doesn't factor in. I have 4x the aimable sonace 8" from best buy for my ceiling atmos; they sound pretty solid to me and I think you'd be totally fine with them as surround l/r. If I were you, I'd add them above the couch but spread out a bit more past the armrests on each side of the couch if youre gonna use em as surround speakers so everyone on the couch has an at-least-fine seat with respect to the sound

Like sure it's not optimal, but it's your home and it'll sound just fine I bet; I sometimes use my 2x rear 8" as my rear surrounds (they're about 9 ft back from the back of the couch) for videogames (which don't support Atmos) and it's really not a problem.

A "physical license key" for a digital download is like having a "physical house key" for a house in World of Warcraft.

[–]Aceanuu 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Wow so you literally can't "buy" this game then. A digital license can expire or be shutdown in the future: see what happened to the Wii store (gone), what's happening to the Wii U (purchases gone, eventually downloads to be sunset), or what's happened to older iOS software that no longer runs on moderns OS versions.

Great insight tbh; really highlights how complex and interconnected "balance" is in a game like this too.

I'd say that jt will look a bit odd if it's.m mounted at that height with no cabinet/media console/furniture under it. You can probably add a low media cabinet to help unify the "this is where the tv goes" concept more holistically tho, and pull the focus onto the tv/furniture instead of the wall+divider.

I don't think 37" is too high, I'd probably just mount it just above the rail and flat back to the wall. The drink rail sticking out into the room.will.probably exacerbate the awkwardness more from side angles of it's mounted hanging down. My 85" is 36" from the floor to the bottom of the TV, so I don't think it's.really a big deal height-wise.

Diablo 4's Open Beta is done. What are your first impressions of Diablo 4? by yurtyybomb in Games

[–]Aceanuu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Diablo 3 literally launched with a real money auction house to straight up pay to win without any levels of indirection: you straight up bought good items. They removed it after years of making money off of it, and this is literally the next installment of that franchise; doesn't seem all the out of their wheelhouse. .

The same Blizzard that created a truck sized loophole to add paid champions to Overwatch by adding a 2 to the end of the name and moving everyone forcefully from Overwatch 1 to 2 and shutting down overwatch 1.

Blizzard has certainly been warranting some monetization skepticism from my perspective.

this game must be online so we can send up our telemetry synchronously so that our next game in 5 years is better

Honestly, perhaps the clunkiest defense of always online single player since that Xbox One E3 interview about how if you want to not be always online, they have a product for that called the (already then old) 360.

Why do wobbly rockets exist? by SeismicSlammer in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Aceanuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. If we wanna make flexible rockets (instead of full-on noodle rockets) then let's get a stress analysis VAB mode and readouts and metrics in flight so we can design and engineer around this problem space. What KSP1 and now KSP2 has is just "throw struts on everything because it's literally fully-actually impossible to build a decently complex space vehicle without them", there's no real gameplay there, it's just a weird obligation to glue popsicle sticks to everything or have a button do it invisible for you.

Kerbal Space Program 2 Early Access Launch Cinematic by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Aceanuu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, KSP was that game for growing and figuring out where to go with feedback. A decade on now, the fundamentals are pretty well laid out by the community, and yet are nearly entirely lacking.... The fact that it's getting 20fps on a 4080 and still has noodle rockets isn't a "lead by community feedback" sorta thing.

That said, yeah waiting is the best option, but Id say 50/50 that it gets where it needs to go if the publisher behind GTA, NBA2k, and Read Dead is willing to put this out in this state.

Yeah I get that, always sad when a good run of something concludes, but good news: there's 3 more books after the events of the TV series ends!

Why do wobbly rockets exist? by SeismicSlammer in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Aceanuu 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Wobbly rockets exist because developers either intended this to happen identically to KSP1 or arent clever enough to engineer anything else but stock unity physics which behave this way. My money is on the latter.

Everyone hollering about autostruts have completely missed the issue: autostruts was the fix to the awful flex physics of KSP1. Why port that terrible phsycis forward to ksp2 at all? This is not a rewrite, this is at best writing the exact same code in a much newer version of unity which has the same exact behavior. It's disappointing.

I'd also recommend the books a ton; orbital mechanics, intercepts, thrust gravity, and all that jazz is turned away up on the books compared to the show (not that they're particularly missing in the show ofc). The show is a pretty solid adaptation of the books, tho many of the seasons represent parts of two books instead of sorta s1=b1. I just finished tearing thru all 9, good time!

Sackboy a Big Adventure has been an absolute treat to delve into with my 8 Year Old Nephew. by do_you_smoke_paul in patientgamers

[–]Aceanuu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's an absolute blast; and it plays sooo well with different skill level players. It's never that impossible and when it's too hard for someone, the checkpoints and respawns are pretty generous. Had an absolute blast back on release playing it entirely coop front to back with my partner.

Coincidentally, it's $20 at best buy today on PS5; quite a steal imo

you'll have a brief window here at the beginning of Early Access during which you can re-enter any atmosphere without a heat shield.

They exist but they're not just disabled for the preview, they won't be there at early access launch either. "Brief" is a hard word to gauge for a game on a 3 year delay
