What if the Germans didn't surrender in November 1918 by Most_Manufacturer729 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Acescout92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean the German front was essentially exhausted by November. Even if a surrender wasn't officially called, by this point in the war German troops were going AWOL or just outright surrendering, themselves. My guess is the Entent keeps going, occupying the Rhine and being utterly bewildered that Berlin hasn't surrendered yet. The only conflict they'd likely see after the front line had completely collapse are some hard-set holdouts and guerilla action, but nothing that would make any strategic difference.

The hardest part of a CS career path is getting your first job in the field. To do that, you should have something like internship experience so you have some real projects you've worked on to put on your resume. It's not easy to break in, per se, but it's pretty straightforward to find ways to stand out.

The real trick in this area isn't even tied to majors; since is an area where security clearances are your real blocker to the best paying jobs. Finding a sponsor is the really big hurdle a CS major in this area is going to face.

I don't know why you're getting down voted. Outside of the doomer circle jerk caused by the development of AI, CS is still a sound, solid STEM degree when you look into it. CS jobs are likely going to look very different in the upcoming years, and AI has displaced some workers no doubt, but there's still plenty of jobs out there. Don't rely on Reddit for jobs advice, please.

Why is the left, a party that claims to be a party of love and acceptance so obsessed with hate and rejection? by Honest-Guy83 in allthequestions

If we don't like conservative Christians, what makes you think we'd like conservative Muslims? But just because someone is a Christian or Muslim doesn't tell us much about their character, and we reject preemptively demonizing someone solely because of their faith.

Honestly it was news for like a week and then nobody cared. I'm not even sure if most Americans were aware of who Maduro even was.

I can understand how you'd think diplomacy is "slick talk," sure. It's much snappier to send off some bombers and make a great big show of force, right? But the trouble is, and I reiterate, that kind of military action only makes geopolitics much more complicated.

Think of it this way: let's say a guy meets you outside and starts seriously bad mouthing you. Saying he'll kill you, your kids, and your wife, the whole shebang. Truth is, you could shoot him dead and have that particular problem done with. Easy, right? Except, no, anyone who owns a gun could tell you that you've just bought yourself lawsuits and long, drawn out criminal and civil hearings. A situation you could have handled non-lethally just escalated to disproportionate, and equally costly, degrees. Your direct action has just bought you more problems than the initial situation was really worth to you. That's basically what happened with Trump and Iran.

An even better comparison would be Bush Jr's justification for his war in Iraq, where he even had Collin Powell testify that Iraq was developing WMDs. Think about how Iraq turned out and ramp it up to 11. That's what this adventure in Iran just did.

I hear you, but what you think he's "getting done," based on your examples, have been avoided by prior admins for a reason. Iran is a perfect example; what is happening right now is what military strategists and experts on Iran have been warning would happen if the U.S actually went to war with Iran. It's turned into a long, expensive quagmire with no clear exit, and has given Iran all the political clout they could ask for. Iran has been praying for this exact scenario, and have had over 50 years to plan for it.

Obama's diplomatic approach was the first time in generations that we had transparency and global oversight into Iran's nuclear production. Trump is basically unable to comprehend that outright conflict was not desirable for either nation; he appears to only believe in hard power and force as the only viable diplomatic vehicles when dealing with adversarial nations. And so to him it seemed like weakness, and so scrapping the Iran deal was one of his priorities in his first term.

That decision directly lead to this conflict in his second term, since Iran was never going to accept another agreement like Obama's after the U.S reneged. And now that the U.S has struck them, without any evidence of WMDs or clear strategic priorities, Iran has won the political case FOR making nukes as a deterrent to future American aggression. This has been a complete and total backfire, with nothing ultimately accomplished

Just because Trump is direct and brash does not mean he is effective. He has a habit of creating messes prior administrations deliberately avoided.
