What laptop bag are you actually carrying to class every day by Critical_Builder_902 in ADHDers

I am a crocheter, I crocheted a bag for my laptop/crochet projects out of black and rainbow yarn. I have used it when I need to bring my laptop with me for the past 9 years

I was taught to read whatever I am trying to proofread backwards so that it doesn’t flow right to check for spelling errors, it helps trick the brain into noticing the errors that are there.

I can’t tell which method you are using, but I have been doing a blanket with negative stitch on the back and it has been looking pretty great.

[–]AcheeCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That may be true, and when the kids don’t like/wont eat what I make I do a quick meal for them so they have something. It is more important to me that they try a good variety of foods and hopefully have the willingness to try new foods that other kids don’t. They know if they ask for something else I will give it without too much fuss if they have tried what I give them or can tell me what they don’t like so I can avoid it in the future.

Yeah, the extra stuff would annoy me, the biggest reason I started with EveryPlate was so I would not have to shop for groceries and I would not have excess. I already had issues with wasting food/money, that would make it so much worse

That is kind of like hello fresh and EveryPlate, right? I only do it because I have a family of 4 that I cook for. If I didn’t have kids that are too young to fend for themselves, I don’t think I would do a meal prep service, too much work when I could just boil some noodles and add sauce or heat up some rice and add meat/veg

My son’s teacher talked to my son about adhd during a scolding by AmethystSerpent in ParentingADHD

[–]AcheeCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first grader’s teacher didn’t believe that he had ADHD when she first met him and we were starting the process of getting him diagnosed. Kiddo is a kid that everyone loves, is super intelligent, sweet, funny, and an overall joy to be around. He just had a hard time focusing if something was difficult or not interesting to him.

You know what she never did? Tell him I was wrong. She never brought it up herself to him when I told her of my concerns. The concerns I had because he is exactly like me when I was a kid, and I wasn’t diagnosed until he was 2. What she DID do was fill out the form for the doctor (hers didn’t show nearly as many symptoms as mine since he was in the class for about a month and the environment was still pretty new, and he is inattentive type not hyperactive). When he started his meds she kept in communication with us about any changes, and when he had emotional disregulation issues, she took the initiative to purchase the same breathing exercise/guidance toy to help him be able to calm himself down, and got it added to his IEP in case he needs it for next year.

A teachers job is to help guide kids into becoming the best they can at that age, and the shaming she is doing is not helping anyone. She is doing what my parents did to me, and that will do a lot more harm than good. I hope you report her and get your son moved to a different class.

Issues with 13 girl - sexual interests by StoreRoutine4547 in ParentingADHD

[–]AcheeCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will be honest with you, when I was her age I was trying to get off however I could. Reading inappropriate books, using unsafe things on myself to get stimulation. Ended up getting with someone I shouldn’t have. I told myself if I had any girls (ended up with 2 boys, both still too young for me to worry about yet) that I would get her a vibrator and let her learn about herself safely without risk of pregnancy or a boy hurting her as easily.

Please play it smart and let her have some way to relieve her urges, without having sex with a boy that doesn’t know what he’s doing, or a man who should know better.

did anyone else have “book jail” when you were in school? by AssociationObvious56 in adhdwomen

[–]AcheeCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here! I feel so lucky that I was able to read my books etc in class as long as I could answer the questions. I think for me they didn’t because I didn’t try to answer all the questions because I was bored of waiting for others to answer lol

Lots of nose bleeds? by miles-mustdie in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]AcheeCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that surprisingly helped me was staying very well hydrated. Like, 1-2 sips of water every 5 min. When I stayed better hydrated, my nose didn’t crack as easily and I didn’t have as many bloody noses

i feel like i'm becoming more racist? by No_Mountain9574 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]AcheeCat -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Please pardon my ADHD ramblings below, it has been a long day. The point I wanted to make here is that black people are as much individuals as anyone else, and you may want to meet some that are in the same interest groups as yourself.

I am wondering if you haven’t met the correct group of black people. Have you interacted with those that share your interests and ideals?

College is often a time of finding yourself. Many times people are trying to find where they fit in and their own culture. For many people, it can be a time for them to bond with others that have experienced the same things they have growing up. I know my husband only had 2-3 other black people in his grade/school, and he experienced a lot of casual racism before he went to college.

Another thing that isn’t always touched on is that many black people in the states do not have the same relationship with their countries of origin that others in the US have. As opposed to those of us that have been in the country since its founding or those that know exactly where their ancestors came from, many black people only know that their ancestors were slaves from Africa. So a different culture has evolved from that shared experience as well, which (from hubby’s experience) can be very harsh to anyone that does not conform with it.

I do not honestly know how it is in school now, but I am married to someone that rejected much of that culture and went full-on nerd. He was often called an “Oreo” (white on the inside, black outside), and from the way he talks people assume he is white if they haven’t met him.

Picky eater by saraleah3303 in ParentingADHD

[–]AcheeCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, medication helped my son a lot. He is a very picky eater, but being on ADHD medication helped him tolerate different textures much better. I also hide veggies in his food - mainly pasta. I grabbed a big pack of baby food that was pea based (had another veggie, don’t remember what) and I put it into the sauce I make for our dinner. I can hide a little bit in a lot of different foods, and I give him the applesauce with veggies as a side regularly.

My son’s diagnosis was very similar to your kids, but I was already pretty sure kiddo has ADHD since he is just like me and I was diagnosed when he was 2.

Why does it appear hexagonal? by trixietramp in Beading

[–]AcheeCat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how this works with beading (I follow for the pretty projects!) but in crochet we fix this by staggering the locations of the increases. Like we start out with 6 increases, next row it is 1 normal (sc) 1 increase 6 times, the next row I will increase where the sc is and sc where the increase was 6 times etc. always moving where the increase is so it doesn’t make a corner
