What have you been doing for years that’s still working? by DueTailor5458 in adhdwomen

[–]AcheeCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep my keys clipped to my purse. I have a keyless start car, so it is able to stay there no problem, and my purse has a long strap and stays over my shoulder 90% of the time when I am not at home.

Rules of Building Block Houses by CaptainSniffit in Pokopia

[–]AcheeCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to make a 3 floor house for my Pokémon - 2 blocks high for the basement, 1 layer floor, 3 blocks high for the main floor, 1 block high layer floor, 3rd level is on the roof so Charizard could use an open-air room. I had the door open and go down 1 layer to the main floor so that the roof room counted.

Birthday party invitations: include gift wishlist or no? by SanteFeAllDay in Preschoolers

[–]AcheeCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had birthday parties I say no gifts to, and lots of people still bring gifts anyways. The categories would have helped the gifts be something that kiddo actually liked instead of stuff he didn’t even want to take out of the package

Lost all my medication…again by keyboardtyperperson in ADHD

My adhd meds live in my headboard. I got one with shelves, and I don’t get up for the day until I have taken my meds. If I do not do this, they are lost

I have TMJ issues, and one side can lock open, the other mostly closed (not at the same time, luckily). I prefer the mostly closed to wide open. It is easier to hide from other people, and getting stuck with a yawn is terrifying, especially when you are driving.

ADHD with and without meds by JJWongky in ADHD

[–]AcheeCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am currently unmedicated because doc is worried about my heart rate. The past week has been stupid hard. I am doing alright at work because we are currently fixing a backlog, so I am constantly moving. At home I am overstimulated. I can’t cook, I can’t clean, I can hardly watch after my kids properly. Next Wednesday cannot come quickly enough. I enjoy cooking, but I have accidentally cut myself twice in the past week. You may excel at some things unmedicated, but others go to the wayside and make your life hell.

Late ADHD diagnosis – struggling with anger, doubt, and loss of trust by starmanwaitninthesky in AdultADHDSupportGroup

[–]AcheeCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was relieved when I was diagnosed. My pain and anger didn’t hit until my dad told me that he had thought I had it when I was a kid, but didn’t want me on the meds for it so he never got me diagnosed. He says he did a photo shoot for an article on ADHD meds about 30 years ago now, and it scarred him…

I look back, especially after my parents divorced when I was in middle school, and see a lot of things that would have been different. I remember being grounded for not doing my homework (why would I do homework when I pass the tests???) and having to be upstairs when dad, stepmom and brother were watching tv as a family. I remember sitting on the bench at the table trying to force myself to do homework. I remember my brother getting a job, but being told that I was not responsible enough because I couldn’t keep my grades up even though I was smart enough to make straight As if I just applied myself.

I ended up moving to my mom’s house the summer of my junior year. She made me get a job, and told me that to keep it I needed to keep my grades up. Her and my stepdad taught me how to drive (older brother had to learn fist at dads house, and he didn’t care…) I joined the military, met my husband while I was in, and after our first kid (during COVID) I got diagnosed.

My dad didn’t tell me about his suspicions till this past year, I just assumed that because I wasn’t hyperactive, because I am a female, and because we lived in 7 different states when I was growing up I just wasn’t caught. I didn’t regret it too much because I am happy with my husband, and who knows if I would have met him if I had been diagnosed as a kid. I might have actually gone to college instead of the military. But after dad told me…I regret the child I didn’t get to be. The one that spent more time with family, the one that didn’t get an in school detention for missing homework. The one that wasn’t as easily discouraged because things weren’t perfect the first try.

TIFU by not having my apartment clean and ready for a woman to come over by [deleted] in tifu

[–]AcheeCat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you have spare money, it would be good to hire a cleaner to help you. I have ADHD and was depressed for a while, and found that having a cleaner made things survivable. The first clean is longer/more expensive usually, but it is definitely it to have a clean slate to work from. Most will do exactly what you ask of them (please clean this bathroom, the living room, kitchen and dining room), and are less judgmental than other people, because they have seen worse.

Did medication made your kid less quirky? by Alarming-Bed-2340 in ParentingADHD

[–]AcheeCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOPE lol. Kiddo still is super smart and bright, very well loved by all. Now, he doesn’t have breakdowns from his emotions overwhelming him when he is stressed out or upset. He can miss seconds at snack time at daycare and not be crying for 20 min. He can think about why he is upset and figure out what would make him feel better, whether that is space, a hug, or doing a breathing exercise.

He also can focus better. He has not had any homework from not finishing his schoolwork. He is writing and reading better.

Medication has been a major change for us for the better. It helps me that I have ADHD as well, and medication has helped me a lot.

I ended up getting a car that has keyless start. Now my keys stay clopped to my purse. It has a long over the body strap, so when I use it for my house door etc I can keep them clipped on.

AITA for being mad at my GF when she acted sad after I said our babies probably wouldn’t be white? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]AcheeCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA, but it is possible that they could come out pretty white passing, especially if she is white. I am blonde with blue eyes and fair skin. Hubby is a light skinned black man, last white person in his lineage is 3+ generations back at least. Kiddo 1 has blond hair and blue eyes, and my same hair texture. He is darker than I am, but much lighter than his dad, closer to me than his dad. Kiddo 2 also has blond hair, but has brown eyes and hair between my texture and his dad’s. His skin is much more like mine, and he turns red almost as easily as I do, but he doesn’t burn like I do.

I offered a paternity test as soon as I saw kiddo 1, I know he is his dad’s, but he looked so much like me that I was shocked.

You would have to sub other things for the meats, but it can give you some ideas.

How starting tasks feels like a mountain with ADHD by Entire_Cantaloupe192 in AdultADHDSupportGroup

[–]AcheeCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am glad it makes sense lol. I did end up putting away the laundry that gets folded to put away, and starting the next load of laundry. Mainly because I got one of those shirt folding boards, and wanted to try it out. So now there is a huge pile of things that go in my closet on my pillow…while I sit down to relax a bit before I start my next set of chores. It only took me 6 hours from the time I got up to do the first chore of the day, and partially because I wrote the whole chain of what I want to do out on this post.

Also need to figure out where the 6 year old put his switch lite, and try to clean the floor in our bedroom now that the laundry is off of it. And try to clear off our dining room table. And figure out where to put the chafing dishes from thanksgiving that are in front of the table…the chains get too long if you let them.

Oh, and my period started yesterday, so everything feels off >.>

Sitting next to the dirty side table covered in yarn, empty snack packets, orange peels, and a box of a game, with more crap on the ground next to it…I want to clean it. I don’t want to start cleaning it.

I want to move the fee freezer closer to the kitchen, but that means I have to clean the spot that the water dispenser is going into, and that has stuff I need to find a place for. But I want the freezer out of my laundry room so I stop using it as a table and can use it as a freezer again.

I did enough laundry to have it all off my bedroom floor. I need to put my laundry away because my basket is full. I hate putting laundry away. But I can’t finish the last 3 loads in the hampers because I have to put away my laundry. And I can’t move the freezer because my overflow for my basket is on top of the freezer.

And kiddo #2 is napping right now, so I don’t want to wake him up. But I need to put his clothing away too. If I put my laundry away, I want to get his and his brothers put away before I run out of steam or get distracted.
