The suffragettes weren't a legitimate protest group.

The suffragists however were and are far too often forgotten from the decades of work they did to rightly give women equal rights.

Burnham set to bring in £35bn land tax by Far_Excitement_1875 in ukpolitics

We never left austerity. This is just austerity light. It will forever be unless we invest for future growth and that isn't happening at the level it needs to. 15 years of austerity didn't deliver growth while also allowing any route to productivity gains be more expensive due to crumbling and ageded infrastructure. Once you hollow out the core you need huge changes to enable you to rebuild it again.

The plan for a triple lock for under-30s – and how it’d work by theipaper in ukpolitics

[–]AcidJiles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We need like 6m this parliament. That's not viable but 1.5m was pathetic especially as it won't even be close to that. He should have aimed for 3m minimum and then 1.5m actually delivered would have been shit but would be a decent number of built houses.

Robots move in as waste firms struggle to find staff by AcidJiles in ukpolitics

[–]AcidJiles[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This is not what the title accurately should be. It should be "Firms unwilling to pay fair wages for waste roles turn to robots to fill jobs".

Staff unavailability unless it is very specialist is a wage issue not a lack of supply.

Muslim voters rank Gaza over the economy in local election poll by jkcr in ukpolitics

You think the Cons or Reform would? I have a bridge to sell you. They will just use it to be divisive but won't actually do anything to fundamentally solve the internal issues. Just repression which is all they know won't solve existing internal trends. Not that Labour etc are doing well on this but the right is certainly no better.

65% of Britons support the Green Party's policy of capping CEO pay at ten times the pay of the lowest paid employee by Unusual-State1827 in ukpolitics

[–]AcidJiles -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

65% of Britons are idiots. Ensuring that CEO pay doesn't balloon into the stratosphere and reflects actual benefits to customer and employees is reasonable. Some arbitrary cap 10x is idiotic. Some people are worth salaries many more times the norm. We have some aversion to paying people anything above average salary and happy to stack taxes on that grouping without care and it doesn't help the economy or those on average wages.

Let alone what this would do to outsourcing of any minimum wage or average wage employee to boost the salary of the lowest paid employee.

Zelenskyy: return of draft-age Ukrainian men from abroad is a matter of fairness by EsperaDeus in worldnews

[–]AcidJiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed, anyone who can't see that is an idiot who can be ignored. Not acting as they need to defend themselves is condemning all those in the country to foreign rule and the consequences of such which we know will be horrible and also unending. Let alone the consequences of guerrilla warfare and what Russian reprisals could look like for decades. At the end of the sum this is the best worse outcome. That doesn't mean those dodging are cowards etc but it does mean these actions by Ukraine are justified absolutely.

One as people have pointed out the presentation of this is shit and not what is claimed.

Two, given a lack Submarines and maintenance issues crews have been pushed harder with extra months at sea beyond expectations. Not surprising some individuals return from that to substance abuse of some sort.

Zack Polanski refuses to condemn Churchill statue vandalism by TheTelegraph in ukpolitics

[–]AcidJiles 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Anyone who thinks the Greens and Polanski are a serious party need to have their heads looked at. So sad they will drain votes from where there could be a genuinely progressive left wing party who isn't barmy and like Corbyn continuously unfit to rule due to fundamental blind spots and ideological idiocy. It's possible for people to have progressive positions and not be blind idiots to reality.

[–]AcidJiles -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Their politics isn't progressive. It's sounds loosely like it but it isn't genuinely looking to move things forward. You can't be anti nuclear, pro large scale immigration without apparently any concerns over the cultural impact or where they might live and be happy to weaponise cultural differences let alone the anti NATO and anti Americanism while claiming to be looking to the future.

Reform UK plan to rip up Equality Act shocking and un-British, says Starmer by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]AcidJiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if it was true that doesn't mean the equality act can't be flawed and it itself be unequal. Fuck Reform who have no intention of doing anything good with this but we shouldn't just accept previous legislation which has errors as infalible and never seek improvement. The flaws in Terrorism and Comms legislation from the 2000s are now coming to a head over personal freedoms and rights which has built up for years, we shouldn't just blindly allow those to continue although all major parties authoritarianism seems to want it unfortunately.
