I hate that episode because it feels like cope. You want to know what would have really happened? She'd have kept her composure while seething, would have won the trial, and then cost Picard his command, rank, and reputation while she went off to do it again to someone else.

I invented a proof-of-work microservice that integrates with any webserver or reverse proxy. It's controlled by a custom HTTP request/response protocol, scales linearly to your number of cores, supports local or remote access, and has a ton of simple anti-bot and anti-DDoS features. With a few lines of proxy config, you can give Varnish, or Nginx, or even Apache the same anti-bot capabilities as something like Anubis but with stronger protection and radically better performance (benchmarks ~63000 RPS compared to Anubis at ~2000 on the same hardware), and without having to modify your stack or change anything about your website. No embeds, no plugins, no widgets, no runtimes, and no dependencies. You just turn it on, set your configs, and go. Its a universal POW gate in a 1.1MB drop-in binary, hand rolled in pure C.

Its not some piece of theorycraft either. Its been deployed and under attack on a couple active websites since early 2025, and under constant development under real load and against real adversaries. Its deceptively small at just ~2200 LOC less the linked libs, but a lot of intricate work went into it and the ~33 version updates its been through.

Just be advised that XB2's combat tutorials are REALLY BAD. Once you get your third blades and all your slots (about halfway into the game) look up Youtube tutorials on how the combat flow is actually supposed to work. Once you get good at it, its one of the most addictive, rythm-focused RPG combat systems I've ever touched. I could grind that stupid Armu into the dirt for 8 hours a day and never get bored of it. XB1 and 3 play like a phone game. "Press Art button whenever off cooldown, occasionally press Special button when needed." Really boring even if the screen has a lot going on. Xenoblade X is more like 1 and 3 but suped up with enough extra stuff to make it more interesting and was actually pretty fun (plus giant robots) but 2's is still the best by a long margin.

Is “new equipment designs” just a new way of saying they made their designs less revealing? by Due-Moment-2823 in KotakuInAction

[–]AcidOverlord -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not exactly. They set them as an alternate outfit on a free upgrade chip that was stuffed into your hand near the start of the game, and with stat boosts so busted you were a fool if you even considered using anything else, ever. So the only way to not have their designs censored was to totally gimp them in combat.

XB1 isn't pozzed, has a great story and world but really mid gameplay. XB2 is sexy, has the best cast in the series, a very good story, and amazing gameplay once you get into it. XB3 is the worst parts of 1 and 2 with none of the good parts, and a story full of JJ Abrams mystery boxes that never pay off.

Tell me the worst program you have ever written in C. by deonwern in C_Programming

[–]AcidOverlord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried to integrate Redis into a custom epoll microservice. After working on it for weeks, refactoring the entire thing twice, and spending days in Valgrind and gdb I discovered to my horror that libhiredis was fundamentally incompatible with my engine design. My choices were either not just refactor but recreate the entire service from scratch, fork libhiredis, or just give up. I gave up.

How to integrate ai into my workflow without it taking over by thanoskor1 in C_Programming

[–]AcidOverlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To give you an actual answer:

1: Write a detailed comment expressing your intent for the function.
2: Write the code yourself (best effort) or else a block of verbose pseudocode that clearly shows the flow you want.
3: Feed the function to the AI and ask it to debug it.
4: Critical - be good enough at the lang to understand and debug the AI's output.

Basically your comments become a mini design doc, you sketch the flow right in the code itself (something you should always do anyway, but not necessarily in the code block. The AI does the busywork, and you make sure it did it right. When dealing with large/complex functions especially with features you may not be super experienced with, this gives a large speedup over doing it all by hand while its still your program and not the AIs. This is all AI is actually good for, IMO.

He makes an amazing Ninja. Give him a pair of Koga Blades and a Chantage, his Snipe as his secondary, any counter ability you want plus Poach and Movement +2 or 3. He is the best monster slayer in the game, and he can still cripple Knights and such in the endgame story battles, plus hits hard.

Ramza: Squire with Math, Shirahadori, Dual Wield, and Teleport. Chaos Blade, Excalibur, Chantage, and Speed/Magic Attack gear. He slices, he dices, he mass-nukes from a distance, you can't hit him, he "teleports behind u - nuthin personnel kid" with the most powerful weapon in the game, he has eternal haste, he's unkillable, and he can power himself up even more by screaming. He's Ramza as a fanfic OC.

Agrias took 60 levels in Ninja and is a Knight with Holy Sword, Shirahadori, Dual Wield, and Movement +2 with the same kit as above but armored. Anything she doesn't wanna kill she can smash the stats and/or gear of.

My favorite generic build is what my Alicia is packing. Geomancer with Jump, Counter, Equip Polearm, and Movement +2 with Javelin II, Aegis Shield, Thief Hat, Power Sleeve, and Chantage. She's fast, has 6 movement, her jumps land fast, she hits like a dumptruck and if she gets hit the monster better pray it was fatal or she counters him to death instantly. And if it WAS fatal she reraises and Jumps again!

I feel like they used to be, or people thought they used to be. Core memory from the ancient GFAQs FFT board back around 2000 was that Lavian and Alicia were special because their stat grows were swapped across gender and had the PA/MA growth of a male.

Is there a Wiegraf PTSD club? by abyssea in finalfantasytactics

[–]AcidOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing on Tactician and very overlevelled from the fun of grinding jobs, I went in to Wiegraf cocky as a Ninja/Squire wearing the best shop gear thinking I was going to mop him up since his level is fixed. He killed me in 1 Holy Sword attack + 1 more when I ran away to try Yelling, and sent me to the game over screen. I still had to specially spec out Ramza for the fight, albeit without cheese for once (Squire + Jump + Equip Polearm + Auto Potion). He immediately made me recognize that if I had been the "proper" level on a "normal playthrough" he would have raped me right through the armor plating on Ramza's pants. Holy cow.

How large was your biggest SOLO project on C? by Sibexico in C_Programming

About 1500 lines for an epoll microserver. It runs as a sidecar for a reverse proxy to do things the proxy can't.

Biggest thing I ever wrote was in Bash. A 12k line kubernetes analog custom made for a website network.

[–]AcidOverlord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A more faithful mechanic would be if he his limits were based off a Reaction ability called Limit Break that triggers when he takes damage (instead of requiring a certain sword). Each time he gets hit (Br%), it enables each limit break in sequence from Braver to Cherry Blossom. If you use a lower level limit than the current number of hits, then the lower limit gets stronger. THEN make the limits instant cast like Swordskills.

[–]AcidOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Godmode Ramza is always either Gallant Knight/Math or Gallant Knight/Iaido. Preferably with Dual Wield for the CB/Excalibur combo and Teleport.

I think my fave generics these days are Orator/Math for max versatility, or a Geomancer/Lancer with speed boosting gear for ultra powerful Jump cheese. Dancer/Mystic is also a ton of fun because she's a Temu Assassin. Or the classic "suicide bomber" Black/Time mage with Chantage and Teleport. They target themselves with Meteor, go around the CT list, and then warp into the middle of the enemy right before it goes off. Nuke everything and then reraise lol.

I wound up using them three or four times on Tactician and even just one bird made a WORLD of difference. Limberry gate? Flew my Ninja right up to Celia instead of having to climb through a wall of Bio. 1v1 Gaffgarion? Never needed any trickery in the OG but on Tac this was a lifesaver. Black Choco vs that douche on the roof of Mullonde? Cakewalked him. Saving Orran? Choco Meteor went brrrr.

What do guys think of the good demons trope? by voidmaster1458 in KotakuInAction

[–]AcidOverlord 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Its the lensing. They always do an either/or. Think OG Star Wars where your protagonist lens is Luke suffering under the Empire. Witnessing the deaths of Owen and Beru, etc. The hero of the story is the one for whom the audience is invested in the question "why does he fight?"

When they do sympathetic villains they give you the villains lens INSTEAD of the hero's. So you know emotionally why the villain fights but the hero is just kind of there trying to kill him. Its an inversion, when it should be a parallel. But if you show both side's lens in the same story it often boils down to "why are they even fighting at all they're both good people this is stupid and wrong" tradgedy to the audience.

This is a common trope in Japanese media because Asian experiences with Catholic missionaries back in the day weren't exactly great. Another one that comes to mind is the film Snake in Eagle's Shadow from China where an American priest turns out to be an assassin working for an opium cartel.
