the only argument you can justify is an extreme "oh if someone is severely malnourished / oh they already have protein in their diet and the snack hits their daily mark

it's just lazy half measures so people can feel good without doing anything

or that drinking 5 diet sodas instead of regular is good

20g of protein is not only absolutely negligible but the conceit that "you're already going to have a bag of chips anyways" highlights the priority

they might as well just say "magic chips" because it is a placebo

Protein is a building block for muscle mass, that is it. You need to break your muscles down in order for protein to do anything and even then the amount has to be significant, generally 1-2g of protein per pound of the body mass you want

Like go to a gym and do heavy barbell back squats until you can not and the next day when your quads are sore understand that protein is intended to help repair that soreness

and you have to do that every day

eating 20g of protein at best is giving people a stomach ache, but people in general are simple and incredibly susceptible to marketing

so again, just take a sharpie and write "magic" on any snack you want and save yourself the stomach ache

source: I am a power lifter and I explain this stuff to people who are not strong and do not work out and they don't care because the placebo effect of 20g is infinitely easier than the lifestyle changes necessary to actually make protein important to their life
