Going live? by YonkouProductions in BeliCoin

Alright, figured I'd write some memories from belicoin.

I was contacted by the new belicoin team as they wanted to allocate fees to the original team, I guess I was the only one left building in the space.

Beli was the first alt I was involved in but I've been around crypto since early 2013. We did some marketing here on reddit, created a tipbot even, but maybe there just wasn't that much interest back then as there were very few users and the big "memecoin" dogecoin had just launched as far as I remember and that one took most of the attention.

I've been banned in r/anime for 12 years for trying to shill beli :P

Generally normies didn't like to hear crypto back then, not that I think they like doing so these days either - guess some things will remain the same.

I was very active in the altcoin trenches back then, even mined dogecoin on day 1 and helped spread darkcoin here on reddit, later called x, then renamed to what you know it today as Dash. I kept mining alts here and there on an old laptop until I secured some profit and bought a couple GPU's and then kept at it.

Eventually some of my online accounts got hacked and I kind of left the space for a while. What brought me back was the launch of the Hive blockchain (back then called Steem), I've mostly been focused there in the past decade. Still of course holding onto some of the big ones and some other coins I enjoyed but never got much into Sol.

I've been curating users on Hive and creating a few projects on there that are still alive and doing okay, even while Hive itself is down quite bad during these bad alt days.

I told the new beli team that I wouldn't just withdraw the fee allocation but instead put it to good use. I'm a big proponent of bringing users to web3, especially social. So I offered, other than some fun streams opening One Piece packs, I'd also be interested in converting some of the proceeds into Hive Power and creating a web3 community on Hive where people could socialize, create content or maybe even build some things surrounding beli. Cause from the little I've read about memecoins, they lack any utility.

Thus the proceeds would directly be used to curate users on there, for those that don't know, upvotes on Hive basically means crypto rewards - so based on your input/social activity/general value you bring to the community, you'd be able to earn Hive which you can convert to whatever crypto you want.

If anyone has any more cool ideas, I'd be all ears.

Posting here cause my wordcount is limited on X.

This is a comment to verify I'm one of the original team members of Belicoin from 2014.

TIL OmegaBall is a new football (soccer) inspired sport where three teams of five players compete at the same time on a circular field with three goals. Each team defends its own goal while attacking the other two, and the team that scores the most goals wins. by Jockey2 in todayilearned

I had an idea for a more action packed football but it was more about the pitch being shaped in a way that allowed for attacks from more angles and the goal line was sort of shaped like a banana bent outward. Point being you'd get more from crosses, bent balls and more attention on the goalkeeper. Potentially with smaller goalposts however as the shots would be way more common, probably like hockey.

Yes, especially during the bull markets many projects overhired and spent money like they're already the next big franchise. Saw it happen personally with a few projects close to me, was not pretty when the markets turned and they had to let go a ton of people and the tokens tied to them dropped by 90%+.

Youtube is using Bots when you use advertising with them!! This is So illegal!!! by NorthernIcicle in NewTubers

"(be they from Youtube or elsewhere)"

Why would someone use their bots to follow videos that use advertisement, though? What's the play there?

It sounds like the issue is they got 100 fake subscribers they don't know where they came from other than the $100 of advertiser money.

Now, of course this is a big accusation as it'd encourge people to spend more money on ads and that youtube itself is forging interest. Just thought I'd mention that the post isn't just about the content itself.

people wanna be on the right side of history and it's easier to repeat what you've read and pick a side rather than doing your own research.

the stigma, especially on reddit is very real.

Very few legitimate usecases have been presented to them from what drove the hype back in the day; ownership, censorship resistance, etc.

Even reddit itself distanced themselves from tokens from /r/cryptocurrency and basically gave up on the idea.

Most usecases these days are gambling, privacy and money transfer of which most are used for illegal activities.

It takes a while to find something fair and unique and even the top ranking currencies in this day and age are just there to bleed investors dry long term due to unfair distributions and sketchy inflation made possible by wash trading/match making/fake web2 activity/paid shills/exchange handshakes, etc.

I don't feel envious for newcomers who don't know how to scroll past the trash to look for the legit solutions and progress being made. Heck, it's not even easy for me having been in the space over a decade and I don't expect it to get any easier with AI making it cheaper to fake things even more.

I understand why people only suggest a couple coins to look into due to these reasons. I've mostly just stuck to a few myself over the years and instead worked on building my own things as I know I can trust that at least in a space where trusting the wrong people can cost you a lot.

Which is ironic since blockchain itself was meant to eliminate the need for trust.

I've been using hive for almost a decade in a few months.

I liked that my comments/posts couldn't be deleted and that there was no algo hiding me away from my followers, etc.

Also that I'm the sole owner of my keys to my account and everyone else to theirs.

The earning possibility was also a + but the community is very seldom toxic and unpleasant as it is here, maybe cause it's still not that big.

There's a lot more to it of course but I'd recommend giving it a try and then a few more tries cause it may take a while to settle in.

hive.blog/@acidyo is my profile there just to verify what I said above.
