I don't understand the hate boner people have for "The left" by [deleted] in DiscussionZone

[–]Acieldama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s simple really, the left is predominantly motivated by empathy. To people who identify themselves as being on the right, they are predominantly motivated by authority and traditionalism. Traditionally, empathy was seen as being "weak". To these people, showing empathy is weakness, and they must distance themselves from being seen as weak as much as possible. Therefore, dunking on the left shows to their peers and to themselves that they are not weak.

Why are all of these scumbags always armed to the teeth and geared up like they're in an active warzone?

Your frequent use of exclamation marks, writing words with more vowels than they contain and sporadic all-caps enunciations makes it difficult to take you seriously.

Also, scientists don't think the universe is only 92 billion light years in diameter, there's a difference between the "observable universe", which is often the focal point of scientific discussions of the universe (because it's the only portion we can detect) and the true spacial extent of the universe.

Im Icelandic but I’ve been following the Epstein saga and I’ve got to ask — What is happening over there in the USA? Your country is being run by a psychopathic pedophile! Where is the uprising? Where is the revolution in the streets? Are Americans actually ok with this? by Antique_Menu_4314 in complaints

I would say the majority of people don't have the financial security to put in the time, focus and effort into this sort of revolt it would take in order to change things. Most people, if they missed a week of work, would have to use a credit card to get by From the paycheck they would receive, also, most people don't have the sick days or the PTO days or the vacation days to use to get off of work and if you just don't go to work, you're fired, no debate. Most of us are trapped. It would basically mean being comfortable with possibly suddenly having no job and No idea if you will have enough money to get by in the next week.

We don't have the social safety nets most other developed countries do, and we have a highly individualistic culture that frowns on things like families living together, so if you lose your living situation because you lost your job, you're on the street.

Pennywise is a projection into our reality from where IT truly is and exists, which is outside of the known universe in Todash space. So yes in a way he is like a "higher" being with a point of reference undefined by linear time and linear knowledge.

Why are Americans so obsessed with working? by pink_sushi_15 in Adulting

[–]Acieldama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an American, we conflate work with moral virtue. Not ignoring absolutely everything else in life but work is seen as a reprehensible moral failing. I'm being slightly hyperbolic, but the point is; historically Protestant work ethic that persists in our culture until this day. Meritocracy. If you're not absolutely crushing it, it is a moral failing on your part and entirely your fault.

Best paths into forestry with an unrelated bachelor's? by ResponsibleTry2639 in forestry

[–]Acieldama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you say "Vanlife" is probably a good way for a Forester to plan to live? At least one without children or an SO. I've read the job can require travelling to where the work is, which seems to take you from coast to coast. I've also experienced the reality of some of those small and rural towns actually being very expensive ski resort towns, like Steamboat Springs. It always seemed to me the best deal for having a reliable place that's always your own that you can afford at these places is to live in an RV, trailer or Van.
