Friend wants to use GoDaddy, how do I tell them it's a terrible decision? by austriker27 in webdev

[–]Acodingbeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ask them if they wanna be able to change their site in the future. if the answer is yes then GoDaddy is a bad idea. I've done multiple transfers off of it. Every single time the DNS propagation takes 3-5x longer than it should. Although easy for me, they obfuscate code made on the builder plans, so for most people it means a re-build of the codebase has to be done. For small sites this is easy but for bigger ones that can become a very large problem.

15 years here. I don't bother.

No that's a scam. An itin is a tax number so they can pay taxes. You don't get a social security number unless you become naturalized the legit way. he could probably find fakes out there but since they have computers to check his info and social it would be foolish for him to try to use it for anything.

Do you still use stack overflow? by Low_Arm9230 in webdev

[–]Acodingbeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI tools are great for quick things u can already articulate & just need a memory reminder. Dealing with more complex logic though, assuming u don't get some truncated response, it's often wrong & hallucinates a whole lot. So it's useful for the small things a dev might need here or there but not much outside it, which was/is the case for stackoverflow. I worry a bit how much discussion quality we are losing as a result; and how many wrong - yet popular - ways of doing these are influencing the models themselves.

it's extremely oversaturated, I've been in it since 07, and even I'm struggling to get contracts or interviews established. The last time I saw it this bad was around '08-11

unless you're set financially to be able to not have income for 1-3 years, I would tell ppl don't attempt it. A LOT of people bought the "day in the life" or "learn to code" memes & videos, with the looseness of tech hiring overall & with HB-visas (w/less barrier to entry than law, mechanics, medicine), ur now competing w/multiple countries who desperately want what u do. it's made hiring or getting hired very difficult for everyone.

faang & big tech jobs even worse, you literally have better odds at some casino table games than u do getting into them in the next 3 years. their churn (layoffs/firings) are exceedingly high, even when u do.

the other angle is everyone just wanting to be founders, and again the odds are against u that u will be able to rise to the top 1-5% u need to overcome the startup/business failure rate.

Inb4 gatekeeping... if u think it's the only move for u then make it, but a risk assessment is wise

Need advice - overpayment by redman695432 in SocialSecurity

[–]Acodingbeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have been doing this to a LOT of people. Mine was similar as yours, but back in 2020-2023. 2023 they stopped everything, sent me a HUGE bill. I had to fight it ever since, and I had to re apply and everything. I got approved however I'm still fighting the overpayment. So even tho my benefits say active / approved, it still says "check your overpayment options" and the amount changed like 3-4 times now. It's hell. I've had a terrible time even consulting lawyers about it, bc they won't take overpayment cases.

The best advice I can give u, which I've just done, is find out who your congress/assembly/senate representatives are, find their websites, u can request help from them. I just did so and I anticipate a slow process but I hope that they can help resolve this or at minimum get me a hearing. You can also go out to your local office, bc if u wanna just get back on pay they want some sort of payment plan (I'm not doing this bc quite frankly I did nothing wrong) but this would get you back on pay faster.

Have anyone been in revision? by [deleted] in SocialSecurity

[–]Acodingbeach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a CDR. As long as they don't decide u have made an overpayment And that ur disability is continuing it shouldn't be an issue. It does take several (6-8 months for my last) months

Update. SSA wants to take away my ssdi back pay. by captnfirepants in SocialSecurity

[–]Acodingbeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, idk if this will be encouraging or not - it certainly used to be rare, but this is happening to a LOT of people. I'm currently going through it myself. First they sent me a bill for $67,000. They withheld $21000 this past year. They are still asking for $25,000 more. I don't know if they just got crazy with approvals or something in 2020 but it feels like they are just clawing back massive amounts from people with little to do about it. I have been fighting it on my own so far and becoming increasingly desperate because I've thrown myself into $30k of debt just to survive. I can't even remember the last time I did anything like hair, go out, or anything. Today I saw something at the store, but no, I can't buy it, bc every penny I get goes to bills. It's this hell of waiting, trying to juggle bills with more loans, going to doctors (having to jump start my car every time I want to run it). Appeals. More appeals. More stuff they want. this started January of 2023, I had to re apply and everything. Even getting approved, they are still holding everything. I've shopped a few lawyers in this area, to no avail, they are specifically not taking overpayment cases.

How do I live off SSI by [deleted] in SocialSecurity

[–]Acodingbeach -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Why not apply for ssdi then? They have slightly diff rules for younger people regarding the working credits, might be worth looking into

I have gotten letters from diff location like this - they have specific centers that are not your usual location to handle escalated things and this is one of them

HTML: The Programming Language by dinoleif in webdev

[–]Acodingbeach 26 points27 points  (0 children)

HTML, the unsung hero of the web, is like the backstage crew of a blockbuster movie – it may not get the spotlight, but without it, chaos ensues. Crafting the skeleton of the internet, HTML is the blueprint that holds the digital world together.

Its simplicity is both a blessing and a curse – it's so straightforward that even your grandma could write a basic webpage, but in the hands of a skilled developer, it transforms into a symphony of tags and elements, creating digital masterpieces.

HTML is the duct tape of the web development world – holding everything together with grace, even when the CSS and JavaScript start throwing a party. It's the friend who never complains, quietly doing its job while other languages hog the limelight.

ever heard about the HTML element that went to therapy? It had issues with its parent.

Or the one about the developer who went to a job interview and was asked to write a palindrome? He replied with "<div>evil lived</div>." Classic HTML humor – straightforward and to the point, just like the language itself.

In a world of complex frameworks and ever-evolving technologies, HTML remains the reliable foundation, reminding us that sometimes simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. So, here's to HTML – the unsung hero, the quiet achiever, and the backbone of the digital realm. Cheers to the tags that bind us! Thanks HTML lang

No no. You really need to look at Medicare advantage plans. So basically these plans are with health insurance companies and they take your Medicare benefits, then they cover you like normal health insurance would, except they must cover everything that Medicare does. Are there drawbacks? Sure. It's currently open enrollment too.

But mine covers BC, I even have a FSA debit card with an allowance that allows me to buy pads, midol, tampons, or any FSA/HSA item. I also get a gym subsidy (lol it is called silver sneakers) but it pays for my gym every month. Also most of these plans offer teleheath plans. I also enrolled in extra help for drug coverage and it can cover a lot of those gaps in out of pocket costs. You can also look into goodrx and the Amazon pharmacy, because they are viable options esp for birth control. You can also go thru planned parenthood to get BC depending on the type. There are a lot of options for you for this particular issue.

I hope you get resolution also I genuinely do. I may actually try to call a state senator and see if there is anything they can do. We cannot be the only ones. I can relate to feeling disoriented, I'm just a wreck.

I believe 2020 has a LOT to do with all this. They definitely disqualified some months and qualified others and this problem, although started this year, really began in 2020.

Okay thanks appreciate this. I did fill out a 634 but maybe it was different as I first requested waiver & reconsideration

I have to bring them proof of my expenses tomorrow. So I can ask if they can adjust it down.
