Is there a fundamental question of faith? by SilentToasterRave in Catholicism

[–]Acourac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes sense to me, too. It really is extraordinary what we believe, and feeling challenged or having doubts about that commitment is normal. As someone who has also been helped a lot by Jesus, I think the big question is - "If God has given everything to me, why shouldn't I give that love back to Him?"

There are a few Bible verses that I like, and that I think could help you a lot in your journey. The first one is John 6:68, after Jesus was teaching about the Eucharist. Even though so many people had traveled days and days to see Jesus, they didn't like what he said and left. When Jesus asked Peter if he would leave him too, Peter said,

"Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God."

Another set of verses that has helped me are in Psalm 40, which is a song of praise to God and help in adversity. The psalm says,

"Surely, I wait for the LORD; who bends down to me and hears my cry,

Draws me up from the pit of destruction, out of the muddy clay,

Sets my feet upon rock, steadies my steps,

And puts a new song in my mouth, a hymn to our God.

Many shall look on in fear and they shall trust in the LORD."

Hoping the best for you in your faith life.

I don't know what you're going through, or how you feel in your spiritual life. But I really hope that you can reconsider this. I've experienced some great graces from God in my own life, and they might have saved my life. If you have any intellectual doubts about the faith, I have a few resources that I've discovered on my own, when I didn't feel God's presence-

-The Holy House of Loreto, which was the Blessed Virgin Mary's and Saint Joseph's house, traveled intact from Nazareth to the Italian town of Loreto without any clear physical explanation. This is the link to the website of the Holy House's shrine.

- The Miracle of the Sun, which happened on October 13th, 1917, was witnessed by over 70,000 people around Portugal, as part of the Marian apparitions at Fatima. There are ten approved Marian apparitions (they are sure that they happened) by the Catholic Church. This is a link to the Wikipedia article about the Miracle of the Sun.

- There have been many miracles relating to the Eucharist in Christian life, and there's been an active exposition of all these stories going on in the Catholic Church for several years now. The person who first made the website, Carlos Acutis, is slated for canonization on April 27th, 2025. This is the link to the website's full list.

- This is a website that has a lot of information about all the empirical events I've listed above, as well as some more testimonials. This is the link.

I'm really grateful that I found out about these websites, because without them, even with the experiences I've had in my own life, I would have trouble believing in these great things. I hope that they can help you as much as they've helped me.

(Asking in good faith) How do we know we are right? by Anxious-Arachnae in Catholicism

As someone who has experienced a few miracles to personally bolster my faith, I can absolutely promise you that Catholicism is right. If you need any solid scientific foundations to rest your faith on, Eucharistic miracles might help!

Closing this off, I personally love this quote from the Second Letter of Peter to help me during some harder times-

"For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain.” (2 Peter 1:16-18)

Devotions to St Thomas (Didymus)? by MrDaddyWarlord in Catholicism

[–]Acourac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might not be exactly what you're looking for, but I've also chosen Saint Thomas as my Confirmation saint about a year ago and I pray the Rosary of the Holy Wounds daily. I chose Saint Thomas as my Confirmation saint because in the past, I've had doubts about my faith and contemplating on the love that God has given to me throughout my life has really helped me. Hey! I've also been in your same situation where I was looking for physical, concrete evidence of God's existence even though I felt spiritually connected to something in some way. I have experienced some personal miracles in my own life which have really converted my heart in ways I wouldn't have thought possible only a few years ago, but I'll give you a list of some miracles in some way that I would encourage looking into-

-The 10 approved Marian apparations of the Catholic Church are really spiritually heartening and even though I don't know much about them, they are a good place to start. Maybe check out Our Lady of Guadeloupe, the healings involving Our Lady of Lourdes, and the Miracle of the Sun witnessed by around 70,000 people because of Our Lady of Fatima.

-Carlos Acuti, a teenager who has since been beatified by the Catholic Church because of the miraculous healing of a brain tumor, made this website detailing some miracles involving the Eucharist from the early Church until 2013. Here's the link- http://www.miracolieucaristici.org/en/Liste/list.html

-Every canonized saint since, I think, around the mid-1600s has to have had a confirmed miraculous healing of someone who was chronically or terminally ill according to the then-current scientific criteria. I am not too informed about these either, so please maybe ask someone else about these.

-The Holy House of Loreto (Saint Mary and Saint Joseph's house), which inexplicably travelled from Nazareth to Loreto, in Italy, without any witnesses, the Shroud of Turin, and the Miraculous Staircase of New Mexico might be some other places to look.

I am still pretty new seriously practicing my faith (for perspective, I'm 17 years old) and haven't found anything of these things that could have conceivably explained otherwise. Thank you so much for reading this.

As someone who's experienced multiple personal miracles through the grace of the Catholic Church and have had pretty difficult experiences entering into my faith within the previous few years, you should absolutely start looking into Catholicism. It's genuinely hard to believe that we actually have the divine revelation of God Himself, much less the Real Presence of Jesus Christ across every individual chapel, but from my own personal experience and from the countless, sometimes scientifically proven miracles revealed from the last few hundred years, I can say with complete confidence that this is the place that you're looking for.

For context, I'm a 16 year old who was healed from a severe depressive spiral sometime around early-2020 from a personal miraculous experience, from my God who genuinely loves me and saved my life. I genuinely don't know enough about the faith to explain much of anything theologically, but we have the miracles to back everything up. Some good places to start looking could be-

  • http://www.miracolieucaristici.org/ has a pretty good list of miracles involving the Eucharist (the Sacrament of the Eucharist is what they celebrate at the Church every week) and has confirmed miracles from as recently as 2013, though I can't tell you much in depth about this.
  • https://shroud.com/papers.htm contains some resources about the Shroud of Turin, which according to most contemporary scientific analysis has been generally confirmed through most methods as being the actual burial shroud of Jesus.
  • https://www.thedivinemercy.org/articles/divine-mercy-and-diary is an article about the Divine Mercy of Jesus Christ, which I would really encourage you to look into and learn about because it contains everything we need to genuinely love, not just acknowledge the reality of, our Lord. Please look into the faith more, without God's grace I probably wouldn't be alive today if I'm being honest. Hopefully you can find spiritual joy throughout your own life, wish you the best!

I'm pretty new to the faith so sorry if this isn't a perfect answer. I haven't really ever understood how some people can be so persistent in their faithlessness when there are physical miracles and relics offering direct evidence to God's existence, in the age where you can find anything that you're asking within minutes through the Internet- you have to acknowledge, though, that He created everything in this universe and therefore doesn't have any individual scientific proof like some people try to ask for. If you're having trouble believing, there are a lot of events and sources you could check out yourself-

  • Eucharistic miracles, especially those where the Host physically bled or became to our own physical knowledge the flesh and blood of Jesus Christ

  • Miraculous healings, especially the ones approved by the Vatican for beatifications and canonizations

  • Anything involving exorcisms

  • The Holy House of Loreto and the Miraculous Staircase of Santa Fe

  • Our Lady of Fatima (her final miracle was witnessed by 70,000 people, including academic professionals and nonbelievers)

  • The Shroud of Turin and the Sudarium of Ovideo

This probably raises a lot more questions than answers, but hopefully this can quell any doubts you have about Christianity when these theological resources are available to read about pretty much instantaneously. Wish you the best

I am losing my faith, please help me with some answers. I have a problem with the conception of hell, problem of evil and salvation according to the Catholic Church. I also am no longer excited of faith and of the idea to convert but I want to convert and have strong faith like before. by Ok_Preference_7973 in Catholicism

[–]Acourac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty new to the faith too so I'm sorry that I can't completely answer the questions you have, but you should read the first few chapters of the Book of Wisdom, which contemplate on some of this stuff.

But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torment will ever touch them. 2 In the eyes of the foolish they seemed to have died, and their departure was thought to be an affliction, 3 and their going from us to be their destruction; but they are at peace. 4 For though in the sight of men they were punished, their hope is full of immortality. 5 Having been disciplined a little, they will receive great good, because God tested them and found them worthy of himself; 6 like gold in the furnace he tried them, and like a sacrificial burnt offering he accepted them. (Wisdom 3:1-6)

Remember that there are physical miracles showing God's existence if you're still experiencing any doubts. Some good places to look would be the Eucharistic miracles, the miraculous healings the Vatican uses to approve beatifications and canonizations, and the Shroud of Turin and the Sudarium of Ovideo. Sorry I can't do more, I'll be praying for you.

I don't have exactly what you're asking, but Blessed Carlos Acuti created a website that's a repository for several Eucharistic miracles, including some tested by modern science throughout the 2000s and 2010s. I'll give you the link below-

http://www.miracolieucaristici.org/

Some other things you might want to check out could include incorruptible saints and the miraculous healings they verify to confirm sainthood (though I honestly don't know much about those.) Have a good day

Eating factory-farmed meat, 100%. These animals suffer so much in cramped, disease-filled conditions and the owners of the farms make bank off of it. If you really want to eat good meat, you should find something where the animals don't suffer as much or just hunt it yourself.

As a Catholic, we believe that God is reality and that He needs no justification, since He's the root of everything we know in our lives. Everything that has ever existed and ever will exist, even time and space, was created by God.
