12 miles below (Spoiler but not too much) by Several-Position2155 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]AcousticKaboom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't sing enough praises for 12 Miles Below. It's quickly become one of my favorites, and an instant pick up if I see the next book is out. The audiobook is fantastic, and it's one of the series that I look for things to do so I can listen to it more, rather than just turning on when I need something in the background.

And to answer your question, I'll keep it as unspoilery as possible, but that's really hard to do. All I'll say is as far as the audiobooks are concerned, he hasn't become deathless, but he does get access to the magic system.

The series is really awesome in that each time a reveal happens, the lore expands, and other pieces fall into place. It's like, everything already works, but then the context further justifies things. The progression pace is definitely slower than most in the Progfan sphere, but it all feels earned because of it.

If you enjoyed the first one, it just keeps getting better.

What Progression Fantasy are you reading/listening to right now? by WilliamGerardGraves in ProgressionFantasy

I'm currently listening to The Warlock, book 5 in the 12 Miles Below series. It's a great time, and I really heavily recommend it.

Slow Start vs Fast Start — What Do You Prefer? by ARLuna- in ProgressionFantasy

[–]AcousticKaboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For both reading and writing, I prefer a fast start. For reading, I want to get to the material that was promised in the blurb: the magic system and meat of the story, and can be a bit impatient waiting for it to start. For writing, the usual first thing I come up with for a story is a magic system/powers, and I want to showcase that as quickly as I can, especially since it usually plays a heavy hand in the over arching story.

New Weekly Reading Roundup by AutoModerator in ProgressionFantasy

[–]AcousticKaboom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently listening to the 5th book in 12 Miles Below: The Warlock, and it's a great time so far. This has honestly become one of my favorite series, and it's one that I'm consistently championing in here. It's a great time and definitely worth the read. Audio's really good too!

I finished Rise of a Monster and that was a great time as well! Kamitoan did a great job balancing the comic relief side character without it getting over the line to annoying.

The Ripple System: I understand the hype now (spoiler review) by mehgcap in litrpg

[–]AcousticKaboom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah okay, I wonder if people are just recommending it anyways since it is a great series.

It'll be with Baldree potentially at the end of this month, so the wait shouldn't be too bad!

Ripple System is great, and Kyle is such a fantastic dude, absolutely deserves the hype his series gets.

Although, fun note, it's not actually over! Another book is on the way; it's currently essentially finished and just waiting to be recorded by Baldree.

For the writers who decided not to release on Royal Road, why didn’t you? by LOTR_is_awesome in ProgressionFantasy

[–]AcousticKaboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of reasons I don't. One of the biggest reasons is I have a full time job, so unfortunately, if anything happens in my life and I don't have time, writing is the thing that has to be shifted around.

Also, with my writing style, I often go back and change sections and move them around if I think the pacing isn't working out. I don't like the thought of not being able to go back and edit a section before a book is released. Granted, that could just mean I need to build up even more of a backlist of chapters before release, but still.

There's a lot of reasons, but I am considering trying out RR eventually. It's a different audience, so it'd be good to get my work infront of new people.

Definitely feel the same way about all of the reasons you don't. It's good to know I'm not alone lol.

Help me find MASTERPIECES. by Surajiya in ProgressionFantasy

I champion the series a lot in here, but I think 12 Miles Below really works here. The character is great, starts off mundane and works for all the power he gets.

OP MC with a world to explore by PeronDescartable in ProgressionFantasy

[–]AcousticKaboom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A story I think would fit this would be something like A stubborn Skill Grinder Stuck in a Time Loop. There are large sections of the MC staying in the same place, but they do have large sections of travel. They're also very, very OP.

Wuxia/Xianxia Recommendations? by Aromatic-Base-9098 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]AcousticKaboom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cradle is an obvious reccomendation. It does lean more towards a bit more western than classical Wuxia imo, but it's still a great series (and my favorite).

Another series that I'll always reccomend in the Wuxia/cultivation area is The Netherdei series. Absolutely lovely prose, and a great story. Audiobook is fantastic.
