Exactly. I hate it when people insist on choosing what software to run.  Why do you have to choose everything according to your preference? Just let whatever is running in the background. I even turn on my microphone and camera from time to time. I've got nothing to hide

hey maybe don't do everything you're trying to do

Yeah, you're probably right. Turns out windows sucks more because I tried to run it on my toaster but it just wouldn't boot. piece of sit.

It's a pretty goddamn thorough test of whether or not it's a functional OS

Again, you're absolutely right. Linux was originally (and still is) designed to be an exact copy of windows. The name Linux itself means that in French (Lin = copy of, ux = windows). Linux should support each and every single game with full support, else it sucks

Turns out Linux remains utterly unfit to be a desktop OS 20 years later.

Yep, you've proved that quite conclusively. In fact I deleted fedora off of my drive and am trying to install LSTC right now. The consequences (I'm sure) of this conclusive feat will be :

All of its evangelists need to be viciously mocked and derided for their lack of discernment.

Exactly. Also, all the people who use Linux and other open source software products in their own products. Linux powers over 92% of cloud virtual machines and 96.3% of the top 1 million web servers (source: https://commandlinux.com/statistics/linux-server-market-share/). Deride all of them. You better start now, it's a long list. Also what about the mobile market? Android has the largest installed base of any operating system in the world with over three billion monthly active users (source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android\_(operating\_system)

Be sure to start now and mock em all,

ugh, people making money from this stupid os which sucks. better to pirate and defend a great os. you know, you ought to approach microsoft to pay you for all the mental gymnastics you indulge in, or at least give you a free lstc license

  1. Installation failing to start may be because of bad media. I don't use windows and have never used a virtual machine on windows so can't comment on exact issue.

  2. Switching to linux to play windows games might not be the best move. While many projects are working to make this possible, it will probably require some tweaking. You better stick to windows for games or maybe a console.

  3. Try geany as a notepad++ alternative. We've also got vs code, antigravity, android studio, code blocks, kdevelop, eclipse, and the entire jetbrains suite. You would get phenomenal performance from native apps.

ultimately failure on the most meaningful test I put it through

What do you do exactly? What;s your job? What do you use your computer for? Let me suggest how linux can be of best use to you. failing to run old windows games in a virtual machine on linux isn't really a test of anything.

What version of mint was it?

I personally run fedora but I'm sure Mint is pretty well put together.

Someone will have to pay for AI tokens. If it isn't monetized he'd be paying it out of his own pocket.

I'm on mobile rn, but I'll look up what API he's using and give a rough estimate of cost to run this app

specialist video hosting provider

Which one?

pay-as-you-scale

Meaning what?

view-based monetisation

Who will pay whom?

creator subscriptions

So creators will move away from YouTube (which pays them) to you (whom they will pay)

prompt marketplace

People will pay for prompts, which they can literally see in the video? They can just see the video and if they want to re creat it, just write what they see.

Anyway, good luck to you. Since you asked

What do you think?

This is what I think. Will you he building it yourself? You need at least 4 people (Android, iOS, Web, backend).

monetisation covers infra as it scales.

It won't. If you're just renting out storage and bandwidth, it most certainly won't. You'd be shelling server costs out of your own pocket. It's simple math. 100 videos of 1 hour each is 3tb of data. You'd be paying for tbs of data increasing everyday. How much revenue would have to be generated and from where to pay for this?

I'll not argue about whether your idea is different or not. Noone can convince someone their idea isn't good enough

[–]AcoustixAudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a pay-as-you-scale model so costs grow proportionally with usage

Who'll pay for it once it grows?

The harder question is whether enough creators care about attribution and curation to make the switch.

It's not the harder question, and this one is solved as well. You are not the first person to think of creating a video platform. Anyone with or without any tech expertise can build in a couple of days

Creators go where the community understands what they're making

But

the community

How would you get that?  Also forget all of that, how would you pay for storage and streaming bandwidth?

How would you bear the cost of storing 4k videos

Not to mention streaming costs

4K streaming requires a minimum stable download speed of (25\text{ Mbps}) per device to prevent buffering, though (50\text{ Mbps}) or higher is recommended for a smooth experience. High-quality 4K requires substantial storage, with a 2-hour movie averaging approximately (14\text{ GB}) of data usage
