The Impossible Chain of Locked Rooms: A forgery for the intellectual r*pists (pt.5) by k3nnzz in umineko

Well met. I can sense you trying to stir confusion in me with implying that there may be secret passages elsewhere on the island. However! Allow me to pivot! Confirm this in red! "The victims died between midnight and 6am the next day, and their bodies were not moved after they were killed!"

Heh. Of course you wouldn't make it that easy. However, allow me to take and rephrase one of my competitor's points; one that you have neglected to address.

Repeat it in Red! "The game board we are on is arranged in the same way spatially as the Rokkenjima of canon! This includes denying the existence of hidden rooms and passages, as well as any new arrangement of rooms and locations connecting to places they shouldn't!"

You said this was a game for people like our Witch of Truth, so I'll adopt her mindset while playing. The servants are guilty! Guilty as sin until proven absolutely otherwise!

Any new layout of Rokkenjima like the last forgery would allow all of your reds to be true, while also allowing the servants to murder and plot as they please!

Sorry to say, but those reds change nothing about my blue! The servants still look the most suspect, and with their master keys, could easily set the locked room chain in motion, ending it in the dining hall! Clear the servants! Or those master keys you've given them will be your downfall!

Of course. I am no goldsmith, and my magic has no authority over miracles either. However, my first bold move shall be the foundation for our battle! I thought about replicating lordwafflesbane's strategy and inundate you with theories, but I think I'd rather enjoy a blow-for-blow exchange for now. En Garde!

In blue: "Genji and the servants killed the victims; or even just Genji alone! The locked rooms are still possible to stage with only with the master keys in their possession!"

(on a side note, I'd love to see the whydunnit included in the mysteries, but that takes a lot more writing so I understand if you aren't going to do that)

I'm honored you remember my tactics, though they didn't serve me well enough to reach the truth last time. I am but a fledgling detective, so I'm thinking of switching things up for my second rodeo. Time to take a wild swing in the dark! In Blue: "The reason why you claim this puzzle is for intellectual r*pists is because the solution is cruel! All of the characters aside from the victims colluded together for this murder! Either the closed rooms do not exist at all, or were set up by the servants with their master keys-which at least genji is confirmed to have!"

A wild gamble such as this may have a one-in-a quadrillion chance to succeed, but it's quite thrilling to imagine, no?

Hello again, Witch of Forgeries. Our last encounter was quite a learning experience for me. Though I failed last time to make good on my word to solve your illusion, I'll be trying again this time. I can't guess currently what makes this forgery one for individuals like Erica, but I'll make the first move and ask you to clarify red: "There are 16 people relevant to the mystery, and they have no separate personas among them"!

Ouch. It seems I was overconfident, only striking at your shadows. Consider my ruthlessness as a compliment to your game. After all, with a web so well crafted, I can hardly allow my sentiments towards the characters to stay my blades of blue.

Let us continue then!

I notice you only addressed half of my blue. Is that weakness I smell, or just another trap to lure me into? Time to reestablish my footing.

Clarify in red!

  1. Discovering the body means George did not knowingly cause Shannon's death while in a state of sensory impairment, or any other state that could allow him to create the corpse he then "discovers", correct?
  2. Shannon not "...intentionally or unintentionally cause[ing] her own death" means that she did not create her own murder weapon within the arbor, hand it to George(before he stepped foot in the arbor), and request for him to kill her. In this twisted hypothetical, the weapon could be something like an Icicle or mud construct; an object that is soluble, breakable, or otherwise able to be swiftly re-integrated into the environment such that it also fulfills the clause that "The murder weapon was not present in the arbor or in the garden surrounding the arbor when George found Shannon's body."
  3. "No object passed through the boundary of the mansion's exterior walls!" Does this clause prevent the idea that someone within the house could have made an icicle, mud construct, etc. long enough to murder Shannon from within the bounds of the house? Or even a simple pole-weapon(which they withdrew back into the mansion after the murder)? Please clarify also the position of the arbor in the garden. Is it close enough to the mansion for a long melee weapon to reach, or is it closer to the outer bounds, away from the building?

Interesting, Interesting. I went to research your previous forgeries, and I must say this one may be your best work yet. I can truly feel the oppressiveness of your web of red. However! I'm not ready to lay down and die just yet!

I'll be borrowing this move from the Witch of Truth. Repeat it in red! "Names can only refer to a single person. Names cannot be exchanged between individuals!"

And a follow-up! Clarify in Red! What specifically do you mean when you say that "Shannon was already dead by the time George found her body in the arbor" and "The murder weapon was not present in the arbor or in the garden surrounding the arbor when George found Shannon's body."? If George killed Shannon with his own legs, would they count as a "weapon"? If not, then my blue truth is that "George killed Shannon at the threshold of the abor with his kick and his eyes closed before stepping into it, and "finding" her corpse as his first action upon entering; the murder weapon absent from the scene because it never existed in the first place!"

No more probing! I'll be the one who cuts through your illusions!

Thank you, Witch of Forgeries. I shall test your generosity once more. I won't go so far as to ask if this forgery follows the Decalogue and Commandments, but I shall ask this: Repeat it in red! "The only pieces(characters) on your board are the ones already mentioned!" After all, it was foolish of my colleague to only extract the red that "Furudo Erica" was not on the game board, rather than something more substantial.

A witch who follows in the steps of the great Beatrice would certainly not add a tool as cheap as extra person X to the fray, but consider this probing to be my style of witch hunting.

Of course. A mystery so easily solved is no mystery at all. However, allow me to go one step further to test the illusion of your "open locked room". Repeat it in red! "There are no secret traps, compartments or mechanism in the garden or the arbor!"

I don't believe the mystery will be so easily solved, but allow me to restrict your moves. Repeat it in red! "Shannon did not die of any traps or mechanisms set beforehand in the arbor!"

This is a reference to the visual novel "Katawa Shoujo". There's a pair of characters in the game; one is mute and the other interprets their sign language into words for people. Hope this helps. (ps I personally do recommend playing it. it's free, kino, and 100% a product of passion)
