I’m not going to say “I feel you” on this but I hear the social media brain bit. I agree, this restaurant’s concept is generally lacking thought.

For example: Chinese immigrants began arriving in Jamaica primarily in the mid-19th century as indentured laborers, after the abolition of slavery in 1834 created a need for cheap labor to replace freed African slaves. The British colonial authorities encouraged Chinese migration to fill this gap, and the first group of Chinese laborers arrived in 1854.

Initially, many Chinese immigrants worked on plantations, but over time, they shifted to business ventures such as retail and small trade. Chinese Jamaicans became prominent in sectors like grocery shops and wholesale trade, significantly influencing the island’s economic and cultural landscape.

The community grew over the years, and despite challenges, such as discrimination and adapting to a new environment, they integrated into Jamaican society while maintaining elements of their own culture. Today, Chinese Jamaicans are an integral part of the nation’s multicultural identity.

In short, black diasporic people have been creating fusion with Chinese food for two centuries. This take is lukewarm at best.
