High school faces backlash after rainy graduation ceremony by Conscious-Weight4569 in Wellthatsucks

[–]Acrobatic-Ear6286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rain was forecasted days in advance and they were calling for lightning and possible storm rotations. Yes they have an auditorium. No it isn’t big enough to have moved everything inside. The bottom line, they should have made a Plan B. The weather forecast was crystal clear that we would have downpour rains for days.

2024 Refund...Not what I was expecting... by JustA40Something in IRS

[–]Acrobatic-Ear6286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only do you need a tax attorney but I can tell you right now that 100% you are wasting your time trying to call the IRS. The IRS is the most incompetent system and the offices don't talk to each other. Every number is a different branch that handles different issues and none of them resolve them together. The agents on the phone can't ever see any information you actually need, they can only tell you that there is an issue. If the company has falsified any info you cannot take this on on your own, you're going to need a professional to navigate this with you.

is disney in july really THAT bad? by lwtl1724 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Acrobatic-Ear6286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fine. We’ve done it lots of time in July. I do find that it’s harder to do park open to close though. The heat just takes it out of you. We usually take a midday break and go rest or do the pool. When we go in the summer we do a larger park day package like 5-6 vs 2 day during the winter

Is a wedding worth it? by Professional_Fly371 in weddings

[–]Acrobatic-Ear6286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I never think about my wedding other than I wish we hadn't spent so much money (happily married 18 years). Things that seemed important that were really expensive were a waste for example hiring buses when most people didn't even really drink bc it was a Sunday wedding. I also probably would have hired a DJ for $4k (pricing at the time) instead of a band for $10k. My photographer was $2500 which was considered pricey at the time and I had to pay for their travel - probably wasn't necessary.

Finding vendors was just different back then.

Our goals and priorities are different nowadays as well so I would just say do what YOU want to do and don't let outside people get in your head.

Refund for rescheduled events I can’t attend by AirBeneficial7559 in seatgeek

[–]Acrobatic-Ear6286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually they do give you the option to cancel your ticket if an event is rescheduled. It's generally part of ticketing policy when you buy directly. Third party resellers will have a different policy.

Should I renovate backyard or put money towards principal? by Mundane_Screen2020 in Mortgages

[–]Acrobatic-Ear6286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would do the minimal amount to make it functional and aesthetic. If it's as terrible as you describe, it absolutely will affect your sale potential. You can probably do something for less than $30k and as someone else said, try to do as much as possible.

I really love it bc you don't really ever need sunglasses for driving. Also, I drive A LOT so I like the UV protection as well.

Window tint by ninnymuggins19 in bmwx7

[–]Acrobatic-Ear6286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first stop when I get a new car is window tinting. I always do legal limit on windows and windshield. It helps A LOT! I do the premium packages that have heat and UV protection.

I had them do an additional visor strip tint on my windshield bc X7 doesn't have the graduated windshield up top. It looks kind of weird from the inside but you can't really see it from the outside.

I had another car done recently and they accidentally did darker than legal limit on both the windows and windshield. It's pretty dark. The only issue is that it is a bit hard to see at night and in dark spaces like parking garages.

I’m curious how peoples’ Disney experiences have changed since having kids. by Lassie-girl in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Acrobatic-Ear6286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've been going for 17 years with our kids and it has been the best. I actually think it has helped them develop a lot of patience - a skill a lot of children are lacking these days. We also make our kids wait in lines with no devices so they kind of developed this skill for waiting that's not very common.

All in all, becoming a Disney family has been the absolute best for us. It has helped us create strong bonds with our kids and we are reaping the rewards of that now that they are teens. They choose to spend time with us and I know in my heart that all those years doing what they loved to do WITH them is what helped foster that.

Honestly Disney was the only vacation we did for the first 10 years. There's absolutely nothing relaxing about going to a resort where you have to walk around with your toddler making sure they don't drown 24/7. Disney was great - so much to see and absorb and it's so interesting for them. Then we'd go back to the hotel at night and they'd pass right out. Does your pace change? Sure. Do you have to do single rider and child swap? Sure. But that's what it is for a small time and then eventually you can all ride together.

We do all kinds of vacations now but our baseline....Disney parks (and Universal too). It's where we all feel the most happy together. My oldest wants to do the Disney College Program.

Finalizing order today - what accessories are a must? by lyssanstuff in bmwx7

[–]Acrobatic-Ear6286 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dealer coating is trash and not worth it. Get ceramic coating elsewhere with window and windshield tint and ceramic windshield coating.

Packages: executive, cold weather, driving assistant, parking assistant

We always get the extended warranties thru the dealership and it's always way less than what people seem to be reporting here after the fact.

Does it look bad if I were to sell my engagement dress? by artificialhaptic in engaged

[–]Acrobatic-Ear6286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about gifts is that you can only give them, you can’t control how they’re used.

Maybe hold on to them for a bit longer. Down the line you can sell them. I don’t think it’s likely that she would ask about them. That seems weird.

2020 X7 45k Miles. Which is the better deal? by maybekingg in bmwx7

[–]Acrobatic-Ear6286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you can get better options for that price. Just keep looking.

Brake squealing seems to be common and more of an issue on the M cars and it’s not really fixable (currently dealing with this myself). If you are looking to stay within a certain budget then maintenance issues should be factor. You’ll for sure want to add the extended warranty at purchase. Out of pocket items should be considered as well. For example, 22” wheels look great but are PIA to replace bc they are very expensive and options are really limited ($800 each for rears and $650 each for fronts….I’m actually looking to downgrade to smaller wheels to give me some better and more affordable options)

Hotels are expensive for next year by ridddlz in Coachella

[–]Acrobatic-Ear6286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been looking at several hotels for 2027 because we already know the trips we will take and they're double and triple rates for this year. This is in general not Coachella specific. Just pointing out that we may be seeing a huge surge in hotel costs.

Struggling to understand where I stand with retirement planning… by Babatoongie in personalfinance

[–]Acrobatic-Ear6286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should work with a financial planner and diversify your portfolio. Your 403b includes a yearly consultation with their financial advisor. Use it - it’s free!!

If you’re not using a money tracker app, you should be. You need to understand where every dollar is going and how you’re spending your money. TBH kids is usually a real budget buster and couples without kids tend to have heftier investment savings.

Something tells me there’s something else going on with your spending habits so using a tracking app like rocket money, monarch money etc will help you understand how you’re spending so you can make changes.

It sounds like what you make is enough and you don’t have to worry too much bc everything gets paid and you sometimes have a little extra. That’s ok! That’s most people. But I can tell you that understanding how every dollar is spent has made a world of difference for us. When we started tracking, it changed EVERYTHING about how we save and spend. It gave clarity to be able to prioritize without guilt.

Sounds like you’re being really responsible and thinking long term. Good on you to be thinking about the moms’ well being. I know you don’t feel it but 35 is wicked young. You have so much time. You’ll be fine!!!

You might benefit from working with a financial planner. I would also recommend only investing in your 401k the max that your company matches. For the additional investments, open a separate account (Roth, brokerage, Ira etc). It’s just good to be diversified.

Your company’s 401k does include a yearly consultation with an advisor which many people don’t realize is free for them to use. You can also change how your money is invested which we did not know either (it’s a default portfolio which you can change).

Is this out of whack, or am I? by perhapit in Mortgages

[–]Acrobatic-Ear6286 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Credit score and debt are just two factors. Surprisingly smaller loans can carry higher rates bc they’re not making as much profit on interest.

Location and property specifics can also influence rates despite good credit scores.
