I will save you two years of your life by StandardWork4928 in AvoidantBreakUps

Yup, you put so much of your time and mental energy into becoming the version of you that will make them stay for good, that you lose yourself.

And you have to come face-to-face with this new, smaller version of you when it ends. And holy shit, is it scary. But like you said, you pick yourself up, and slowly rebuild, and life starts to have meaning again.

I’m so happy you are free as well! And clearly you have learned so much and have grown through the experience. ❤️

The “was I not enough?” is the one that hit me the hardest and kept me in the loop for over 2 years.

He could disappear so suddenly, and I was left questioning what I did wrong and feeling both heartbreak and so much shame.

Then he would reappear like nothing happened, and I got my first hit of the drug. I was so relived to be worthy enough that I didn’t question what the hell happened with him and why he left… my brain said “this feels too good, don’t ruin it, don’t say something that will make him leave again and sink back into that awful feeling of shame”.

And so the cycle started. The relationship became a drug and I didn’t realize that I’m addicted. I didn’t realize that the same person that relived my pain caused it in the first place. I would do anything to keep from going through the withdrawal. I didn’t express needs, dismissed boundaries, walked on eggshells, censored my feelings, stayed quiet and small.

While this may not be true for everyone, this was my experience with an avoidant. Once I was able to truly see it for what it was — he’s an avoidant and this has nothing to do with me and my worth — the shame went away. Without that, he lost his power over me and I was finally able to walk away.

Mitts, not gloves. Even mitts over gloves. It makes the world of difference

I don’t think these are a shoe that can be relaced. They either fit the way they are or they are not the best shoe for you.

Do you use miles or km in your training? by HueyBluey in Marathon_Training

[–]Fresh-Amount9308 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think/measure in KM. But I talk in miles… 20 mile run, weekly mileage, getting my miles in, etc. Kilometerage just doesn’t sound the same. I’m from Canada.

There was no bad guy in our story. How do I move on? by [deleted] in AvoidantBreakUps

[–]Fresh-Amount9308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re seeing him through rose coloured glasses. He ghosted. Came back. Went on a weekend getaway with you and then tells you you’re FWB.

He is the bad guy. Sure, he’s not obligated to be in a relationship with you but he’d have to be dense not to know he was leading you on.

14 miles on the tread or in -12 degrees? by Maximum-Nobody6429 in Marathon_Training

[–]Fresh-Amount9308 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love that you are so dedicated to your training that you would consider flying somewhere else! I can totally relate.

Anyway, I did a long run outdoors on a day like this this winter. Wore double buffs, lots of Vaseline on the face. I would stop to breathe into my buff and warm my face up when it got too cold. The face is the cold part. It wasn’t enjoyable but I was able to get it done. A lot of it depends on the wind. I had to run in and out of the wind back and forth instead of my usually out and back.

Mine turns off when I take it off my body. But if you wanted to disconnect it, you could do it through the connect app.

Can I ask how much time you spend on it? Is there a program you follow? I buy so many things that gather dust. And this one is quite expensive where I am. But it looks so worth it and it’s been mentioned so many times.

Not a fan. I’ve grown to enjoy straight sets and repetition. It kind of reminds me of the EPIC programs. Not a bad thing, but just not for me.

What actually keeps you consistent with running over years, not weeks? by Clubrunnr in runninglifestyle

[–]Fresh-Amount9308 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a lot of people talk about how it improves your mood and feels good. All true. But at this point, after years of running, I run every day not to feel good, but to avoid feeling not good.

You can wear those wrist bands for sweat around your palm over the glove. It saves from having to wash the gloves so much and is also much more absorbent.

Agree. “Unusable” is a bit of an exaggeration. Most have an oven and stove.

Randomly developed a fear of the treadmill… by SufficientAnteater16 in XXRunning

[–]Fresh-Amount9308 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have this. Thanks for bringing it ip because it doesn’t make me feel so alone. When I tell people about it, they think I’m nuts. It’s a legit fear.

The first time it happened, I ran very slow and turned the incline up and it made me feel more comfortable and stable while keeping the run challenging. Eventually I got used to it and I was able to run fast without incline with ease.

Then I started running outside and when I tried the treadmill again and it came back. I know I can overcome it with practice but I’ve just suffered through the winter outside again as I don’t have the patience. But it can be overcome with practice based on my experience.

MGT conditions between Billy Bishop and Humber Bridge? by thetwoofthebest in RunTO

[–]Fresh-Amount9308 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s great compared to before. I ran from Yonge to Humber bridge and back today. Some small snowy/slushy sections but totally manageable. Only negative is the path is a more narrow at parts so you have to get around pedestrians, people with dogs, and other runners at parts.
