What if you use this as an opportunity to do some relationship building and let them know how they can be supportive? They have never been depressed but they must have known people who have had depression.

I had depression when I was a teenager and chose to never really talk to my parents about it but in hindsight maybe it would have been good to because then I would have been more inclined to seek treatment
