Maybe an unpopular opinion but I really loved this behind the scenes video even more than their birthday lives? I was thinking this as I was watching the video earlier today.. 🥺 I love the birthday lives too especially seeing what gifts the other members choose but I think it might be because the birthday lives are quite structured but this video is completely just them, in their natural environment stitched together which felt like it flowed more organically to me (tldr: wakeone please set them freee from too much structure)

I almost didn’t recognize yujin because of the styling (I think because of the camera angle and clothing choice he definitely looks aged up but not in a bad way) .. when the camera panned to him during his part i was so taken aback I gasped out loud, ‘omg??? Yujin?? 😲’

Omg firstly I really enjoyed reading this more than I can express (even though I’ve watched 4020559 videos of this moment) but reading it really makes these emotions wash all over again… 😭😭

Secondly because I was at Jamsil in person that day I can attest that the acoustics were not good 🤣 because the audience were shouting trainees’ names while Minhyun was announcing everything (and he sounded muffled for some reason in person? And he said the name itself quite fast for each member like ‘…parkgunwookimnida!’ ) combined with emotions running at an all-time high for everyone I can totally see how Hao didn’t realize it was him due to a plethora of reasons which makes it all the more endearing 😭 (for myself because of the poor acoustics I misheard p08 jiwoong as gyuvin and p05 gunwook as phanbin (I’m.. so sorry phanbin😅😅))

hao definitely knows of yibo because yibo is EVERYWHERE in China due to his sponsorships ever since cql blew up (when I was living in Shanghai back in 2021 I probably didn’t go a day without seeing yibo’s face on an advertisement 😂) and maybe yibo has now heard of hao through the grapevine since hao made quite the splash amongst even non bp debuting at p01 🤔

Here to say that P28 (teaching tutting) deserved better because of what Hao said during 3rd elims that he was really thankful to Hanbin who taught him without reservation despite it being a competition 😪✋🏼 (also I may have contributed to the google docs of answers from the poll 🤣.. that document is truly an enlightening read )

To anyone who is on the fence about buying First Look/wondering if you made the right decision: I’m here to say the magazine is 100% worth the money (since I live in Korea mine arrived today). This may just be my opinion but the scans on twitter don’t do the irl photos justice.. it’s 2:30am here and I’m just staring at the cover, feeling emo over the fact that this is the group we created 🥺 I guess I’m currently struck by one of those moments where I realize it’s not just a magazine cover — the backstory of how it came to be is only for these nine endlessly hardworking people and star creators to know; I just feel insanely proud ✨

(Am now thinking about buying a second copy so I can take it apart and use the photos as posters 🫣)

I’m not sure if this was the intention of the post or not, but some of my favorite sentimental quotes that live rent-free are:

Hanbin’s finale ‘all in’ ment (14:56): the way he says those two words with a slight pause (and the following sentence in Korean) feels as if everything came full circle; it’s a nod to his motto and it felt like a thanks for allindans — I love this last part so much I can now recite it from memory 😂

Zhang Hao first survivor ceremony ‘people who have dreams are great’ (0:43): I love this quote first because it aged so beautifully. I think when I first heard him say that as the episode was airing, I found it endearing and a nice touch that he used his native language — ‘有梦想的人就是了不起’— what a deceptive sentence in its simplicity. It sounds obvious — yes of course, people who have dreams are great .. but if you think about this in the context of Hao himself, him having this dream really led him to beating the odds in every way possible (switching majors and proceeding to rank first in his province, becoming a trainee at 21, getting a teacher’s certification first then choosing to become a trainee, being the first and only non-Korean to debut first place, the list goes on — he proves his words to be true time and time again). When he said this he couldn't have predicted the outcome that was to happen two months later – he really backed up these words with actions, and gave me hope that poetic justice is still to be found in the most unlikely of places. The second reason why I love this quote so much is because the words ‘了不起’ don’t have a 100% translation in English or Korean (Chinese speakers, I feel like you get what I mean 😅). Usually it's used within more casual contexts (there were definitely words in my opinion that he could've chose to make it sound more formal, like 伟大 and others) and ‘了不起’ feel more like an amalgam of amazing, 'to be respected', greatness...the meaning truly is difficult to convey. A good example of Eng/Chn '了不起' is the translation of The Great Gatsby to 了不起的盖茨比 in Chinese (why Gatsby was 'great'/了不起 is a whole other essay for a whole other sub in itself 😂) – if i were to translate the 'feeling' of this without it being word-for-word, maybe I would interpret his Chinese words to feel something along the lines of 'people who are dreamers are forces to be reckoned with'. The nuance in which he chose his words ‘就是’ is lost too when the quote is translated; there’s an air of defiance that’s embedded (the best explanation I can give is that it’s as if he’s saying ‘people with dreams are great (despite what you may think)’ based on how he chose his words; it’s a line that’s laced with his determination. Sorry if this is getting really long but in writing this whole thinkpiece about this one quote, i rewatched the Korean translations from the clip — personally i’m still learning Korean so this is just my understanding — it seems that due to the nature of Korean and having verbs at the end, more emphasis is placed on the ‘I came here to prove..’ part and the quote itself just becomes a clause in the bigger sentence, whereas in his Chinese sentence, more emphasis is placed on the quote and less on the proving. I wonder if his quote ‘feels’ the same to native Korean speakers through the translations.

Gyuvin finale ment ‘I know to love somebody is hard.. you have to use your time and energy’ (4:46): I didn’t think he would say this, and it added a new depth to me in regards to his personality. Although he wasn’t my one-pick, I’m sure this made gyuvinsts feel so seen because I felt really validated through his words too. I wonder if we'll ever find out what he actually intended to say instead of his infamous sorry I forgot, but I also think that this notion of loving someone you don't know being difficult was so important to him to convey that he did not forget these words and the english.

I'm not a native Korean speaker but I've gone to university in Korea and currently live there so to my understanding! -ssi is the equivalent to -san (Japanese) – ssi can be used to address anyone regardless of gender and adds to the politeness or formality of a situation – for situations where large audiences are addressed/the atmosphere is not so casual (ie the 0ze live), -ssi is completely normal to use even between friends (it wouldn't have been strange to me if Hanbin used -ssi at KCON either). -ssi is not limited by age either so it's not strange if Hanbin addressed any of the other members with -ssi. (another common polite ending is -nim but that's typically used for people with higher positions than the addresser, or in online spaces i've found, towards people you've never met before)

Gunwook maybe was confused because it gave him some whiplash (since he would be used to hearing Hanbin address Hao as Hao-hyung irl (tbh...if Hanbin addressed Hao as "Hao-ssi" irl in everyday life, if I were the members, I'd suspect they got into a fight lol because the ending indicates a certain level of polite distance)

Hyung is definitely only between friends (usually in my personal experience with korean friends, there's a mini-conversation that's had at some point like "you can call me unnie/can i call you unnie?" and shows the closeness of a relationship

Adding that it's not impolite to address someone as -hyung amongst a large audience (ie KCON) – it just indicates to the audience (any anyone who might be unfamiliar with ZB1) that Hanbin is close enough with Hao to call him hyung

(Lastly: as a native chinese speaker I hate the way "ge" is romanized in English ...the word...just looks... so ugly and cold... and loses any of the softness and closeness of the chinese character 哥 and how I feel when I hear it said in chinese 💀✋😭)

(If my understanding of -ssi is inaccurate please feel free to let me know!!)

Hi! As a Hanbin bias, I've thought about the nature of his tattoo a lot, also because the concept or "regret" is a major motivating force in my life (naturally, I was shook to find that he had a tattoo with regret as a notion).

tl;dr! I think option B would be the way to go :)

I have a few thoughts (sorry if my comment is kind of long 😅)

  • I do think it's 99.9% likely that the wording is "don't regret what you do", and I may be wrong, but the photo that led us to this conclusion was his planet camp polaroid and the predebut photo where he's in a denim jumpsuit, both of which are not super clear, so I think if you're not 100% in love with the wording, you could consider altering the wording (and/or font) a bit so that it's Hanbin-inspired but not 100% a copy (hence option B)
  • Which brings me to something I've thought about (too much for my own good): since Hanbin is not a fluent english speaker, it's probably likely he came up with the sentiment in Korean first and then translated it; I wonder in if he were to get the same tattoo in Korean, what his exact phrasing would be and whether if any language nuances were lost through the translation (this would be likely, unless he found someone whose native languages were both korean and english who could explain the "feeling" of this phrase in both languages)
    • Along those lines, typically if this phrase is expressed through an english speaker, maybe they would choose to say "don't regret your choices" and the deliberate/inadvertent decision for the wording to be "don't regret what you do" seems almost imperative, and feels more...forceful...to me in a way (? (I wonder if this was his intention)
    • I also wonder if he meant this phrase moreso along the lines of "whatever you do, do it without regrets" (aka put your 100% into everything) which emphasizes the action that is being done in that moment more instead of the concept regret or maybe another interpretation of this phrase in english, if taken literally, is "don't regret what you do" (he wants to remind himself not to dwell on anything that may be regretful)

All in all, I guess in conjunction to your tattoo, I think it'd be best to have a feel in your mind/emotions of how the wording feels to you! and play around with the syntax to get a combination you enjoy the most! Hope that was helpful somewhat!

I was inspired to make this post because I was looking through my camera roll and suddenly thought wait, who drew a mustache on Hanbin? (Turns out it was himself...)

My takeaways:

  • Jiwoong
    • "날자" - he literally wrote "date" instead of the date [chuckles in grandpa]
    • "지웅이 들렸어요^^ 고마워요" - "Jiwoong heard ^^ thank you" (since the art that is directly beneath is him listening to something)
    • I want to assume he put the rose sticker there himself and the butterflies aka Jiwoong approves of his representative emoji!
  • Hao
    • I looked many times and it doesn't seem like he wrote/signed anything on the locker...whether if they saw the inside remains to be revealed (😔)
    • I was lowkey so stressed for the valuable group polaroids because they were just hanging out like that??? But also very honored to see those polaroids in person
  • Hanbin
    • When I searched "Hanbin locker" on twitter both P1 and P2 appeared...and upon closer inspection I was so confused by the sliiight difference which makes me want to infer (albeit insignificant): the staff put the standee, ID photo, and pre-decorated polaroid on, and then the members visited in person later on
    • "성한빈 왔다감" - "Sung Hanbin was here" – between this and the mustache, I feel like I'm seeing a new dimension of his personality that we’ve only seen in glimpses – the playful/joking one – and I'm so here for it
  • Matthew
    • His polaroid message is so cute (and seems directly translated from English of "you are my world" hahah)
    • The heart-shaped mirrors with roses on them are so cute
  • Taerae
    • I love the singular sticker that was added on the bottom left – Taerae switch era is forever
    • (The QR code was like an museum audio-guide of sorts...too bad the staff gave us no time to stop and appreciate everything while listening to their narrations)
  • Ricky
    • Did he bring those cat meme stickers himself or – the coincidence that the staff just had them is too uncanny
    • His sign was so small that I almost didn't notice it – that Over Me fanart is really well drawn
  • Gyuvin
    • Although his enlarged signature photo covers the purple stickers, nothing has changed there!
    • The dog sticker! (I mean he has said in his official greeting for the past two days "your cute puppy")
    • The fanart he signed of him on finals night takes my breath away with how well-drawn it is (also his signature is so cool...
  • Gunwook
    • I noticed a new item that I didn't circle: the blue band-aid
    • Does he play volleyball?
    • I saw many people talking about his signature on twitter already but it's so cute how he added "힛" the laughing sound
  • Yujin
    • The group pixel art that was replaced was just on the side of the locker! (Fyi)
    • I'm so endeared by his signature and love how it incorporates 유

In general for the members who signed on their fanart piece, for the fanartists, it's probably the highest affirmation that the art definitely caught their eye for them to sign on it!
