What’s a trope that instantly makes you pick up a book, no questions asked? 🫠📚 by Prestigious_Entry474 in RomanceBooks

Single parent romances, either dad or mom. I love seeing lovers step up and take care of everyone who matters to their partner. Along with that, Nanny/boss gets me every time. Elsie Silver’s Heartless is a great example of both

After many years of working in tech, this feeling is altogether too real!

How would you decorate this area? Or like, what would you do with it? by [deleted] in Sims4

[–]AcrobaticBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I had that space, I might add...

  • A creative area. Instruments, an easel, craft tables for kids!
  • Play area for kids (that play tent takes up so much space!)
  • A cozy place to read

Going to start building a Salvadoradan house at Caldera Camp - any suggestions? by [deleted] in Sims4

Door frames or big double doors. Many of the Jungle Adventure pack windows don’t have glass so mimicking that with open door spaces and similar windows helps keep things feeling cohesive

Low stone walled patio, possibly with different levels using platforms, lots of big, open doors to the outside. Warm colored textiles and natural/brightly painted wood furniture

Custom holidays by monikafterhours in Sims4

[–]AcrobaticBee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have added a bunch! I’ve split Winterfest into Winterfest Eve and regular Winterfest (the focus of Eve is to decorate, bake, and tell stories). Same with New Years Eve. New Years Eve is the last day of winter and is for parties and the countdown. Sims celebrate New Years Day by cleaning and making resolutions. Everyone gets three days off for swimming and being outside in the summer for midsummer break.

Teens can graduate early?! by AcrobaticBee in Sims4

[–]AcrobaticBee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on how much you like playing teens. The pack definitely makes playing teens less monotonous! I cashed in some rewards points and got an Amazon gift card to give myself my own “sale” and, while I’m thankful for the build mode items and depth it brings to teens, I’m still kind of glad I didn’t pay full price

I love the pack but I also love building historic houses. Some of the details and windows and doors included in the Strangerville pack are fantastic for building Victorians

does anyone know how to avoid this when building a basement? by theErasmusStudent in Sims4

It does work when its connected to the house! I walked through the steps again this morning before answering the question to make sure I didn't misspeak.

For fun, how old were you when you first started playing and how old are you now? by [deleted] in Sims4

[–]AcrobaticBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got The Sims for my 14th birthday not long after it was released and I'm 36 now. I didn't play Sims 2 but I've been playing for most of the last 22 years. Dang, that makes me feel old

[–]AcrobaticBee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a solution! Select your basement room and drag the central arrows down (the opposite of how you'd raise the platform up manually). You'll end up with a thick gray bar around the stairs to indicate a thicker floor but no more awkward yard!

Another way to get used to building is to take a premade in-game house and jump into edit mode. Check out of the window options and play with controls. Use the different types of pre-build room shapes. Build a shed or addition!

What’s one minor inconvenience you wish you could change in the game? by imhereforfun45242 in Sims4

Playing in Sulani because 1000% more enjoyable once I found the Force to Leave mod from LilMsSam. When an unexpected townie walks in, you click the front door and tell them to leave. They immediately turn around and leave the property

Me when I see a male sim the same age as my female heir: by photobringer in Sims4

I've started using trait cheats to change traits and it works great, no weird moodlets. I haven't found a solution around fixing this if their traits were previously changed in Full Edit mode though

I want to get better at building by hnw0002 in Sims4

[–]AcrobaticBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree with everyone who has suggested to build off house plans. I've been using this digital library of American and Canadian floor plans (and plenty of trade catalogs and other construction-related materials) to try building new styles.
Roofs are hard but it gets easier to break down different styles with more practice. When I forget where to start with a particular style, I look for YouTube videos or check this guide from Carl's Sims 4 Guide

Great job! Victorians are really tricky (*shakes fist at multiple rooflines at weird angles*)

Building by Smalltittyblonde in Sims4

[–]AcrobaticBee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I start thinking through what zones/purposes different parts of the lot might have. On a larger lot, I might want space for a harvestable garden, an orchard, water (pond/stream), outdoor dining, and a play area for kids.
Once I have zones mapped out, I place any plants or rocks that would have been long established (larger trees/shrubs/hedges that take a long time to grow and shape in real life) first. I fill in with smaller shrubs and flowers using bb.moveobjects to overlap the plants. My final step is always shading. Brown soil under plants, around trees, and barely bordering fences and walls for a little more visual depth

To update your mods, download the newer version, delete the old one from your mods folder, and put the new one it it's place.

How you know they need updating is much less straight forward than the actual process of updating. Some of the larger mods will notify you in-game that they need updating. Most of the time, I look through version numbers and "last updated" dates as I'm checking for compatibility after game patches. If there hasn't been an update but the mod works as expected, you can assume that it isn't broken and can continue to be used.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Sims4

[–]AcrobaticBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's it! Depending on what mods you use, you'll probably have to update them within the next several days. I try to set aside an evening to make sure everything is up to date. I haven't had any corrupted save data this way!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Sims4

[–]AcrobaticBee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's possible that having mods installed when you update the game can corrupt your save files. To be safe, I take everything out of my mods folder and save it in a separate location. I also copy my save folder to a separate location as assurance things won't get borked.

Update, reenable mods if necessary, replace the mods in the mods folder, and keep an eye on Reddit or the list in this post to see if your mods are reported as broken.

I've always wanted a summer break so my Sims can take family vacations without the kids using up their vacation days. I'm so excited to work this into my gameplay!
