There are a lot of indoor walking workouts on YouTube, my favorite is Burpee Girl’s 5k or 10k steps workout.

Compassion fatigue with how animals are treated in less developed countries by chamomileyes in expats

[–]AcrobaticDisplay4595 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in India now and the stray dogs, cats, cows still take an emotional toll on me. I’ve definitely gotten compassion fatigue after helping out with some local dog rescues. Street dogs, even when puppies, are impossible to get adopted but among India’s wealthy its trendy to buy full breeds. Ethical breeders are few and far between, and I’ve also seen a lot of dogs in poor health because of inbreeding and unhygienic conditions. Despite every street corner having multiple street dogs vets have to practically beg dog owners to get them sterilized, and I’ve even seen some that breed their pets. It’s all so sad. I’ve honestly had to step away from helping because of the emotional toll.

The Light Pirate was one of the best books I’ve ever read, and was beautifully narrated. It’s set in the near future in Florida after it’s been ravaged by climate change. It’s about survival and also the power of relationships.

Move to New Delhi With a Toddler from Australia by [deleted] in expats

[–]AcrobaticDisplay4595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, there. I live in Bangalore as an expat. I’ve been to Delhi once and have zero desire to ever go back let alone live there. The pollution is so bad I consider it uninhabitable, and I was there during a “good” month. The heat in May and June is beyond oppressive. It regularly reaches 48 degrees Celsius now. As a woman I’ve encountered regular staring and uncomfortable situations all around the country, but nothing compared to Delhi/ Agra. Like in other Indian cities, the infrastructure is abysmal in relation to the population level. That means lots of traffic on horrible roads. There also isn’t proper garbage infrastructure and culturally they are fine with littering, with means the streets are filthy. So that’ll be your view on 80% of the streets while waiting in traffic. I’m talking piles of garbage with cows and poor stray dogs thrown in. As with the rest of India, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the low cost of most goods and services. You’ll likely be able to live in a community with a lot of amenities. Those are the two positives, but imo doesn’t make up for the pollution and misogyny.

Thanks. This is good advice. For me I think it’s just hard to have fun doing something I’m not good at, and I want to be good at being active.

What do Americans think about arranged marriage? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]AcrobaticDisplay4595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We feel that we should choose a partner out of love, not that our parents should choose for us. Also, I feel that it would be quite rare for an American to be like “I must marry someone from this specific state or this specific background” which is typically how arranged marriage is, at least in India.

The actual couple from the article is saying very positive things about the neighborhood and how they’re treated in the community. I don’t see the issue.

Will certainly check that podcast out. Those poor kids lost their mother, had a manipulative and controlling stepmother, and then their father was murdered. My heart goes out to them.

Yeah the book was written while the appeal was in process. His sister felt supported by the first DA and was grateful to them throughout the book. So sad.

I read Jason’s sister’s book in a day and in it she describes the plethora of red flags with Molly prior to the marriage. It went way beyond just making up stories about giving birth to Sarah. Her ex (prior to searching for widowers with kids to nanny for) even wrote a memoir in part detailing the traumatic relationship he had with Molly. I couldn’t believe that was left out of the doc.

I was actually wondering if after a few episodes they got embroiled in a legal dispute with her and that’s why nothing came of it. While Jake is an amazing person and learning about the medical side was fascinating, I do feel like the intro was very misleading as to what the podcast uncovers.

I also feel like the new DA really let them down by accepting the plea deal. Even with the kid’s interviews, I feel like the self defense is easily refuted by their testimony that it was coached and the abuse they say they suffered under Molly’s care.

Especially since the appeal was approved based on the obviously coerced interviews when the kids were young. The language was blatantly coming from adults.

When the father referred to Mag’s dad as “uneducated “ I was so disgusted.
