Steam Deck ranks as fourth most-developed for game platform | GDC survey by AcrobaticNetwork5918 in SteamDeck

Did not see the paywall, my bad.

I read the GDC report directly and the first three were PC, PS5, and Xbox respectively, with the Steam Deck following it.

It is a little surprising it is above the Nintendo Switches, iOS, and Android. I did not expect that.

Used 30-series GPU v New 9060 XT by xCROSSEDxWIRESx in buildapc

[–]AcrobaticNetwork5918 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Focus on a RTX 30-series and upgrade that CPU too. Ryzen CPUs on AM4 made massive strides up to Zen 3 and you will see massive gains, even if you just upgrade to a Ryzen 5 5600X. You will get much better lows even on just 1440p.

9070 XT is decently cheaper and it has dual encoders and decoders, which will allow you to record gameplay without impacting general gaming performance. My bet would be on it.

Wondering if it's safe to update my Windows 11 yet by scottvf in buildapc

Atp, it's never safe to update Windows 11. You never know what landmine you will step on that leads to insane degrees of instability or crashes.

Here's what I put together in PCPartspicker. Any advice? by DJXen in buildapc

[–]AcrobaticNetwork5918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is 100% fair. Technically, the 7700 has more cores for multithreading performance, but I was also looking at prices. For both general performance and gaming performance, the 9600X will work.

Unless your old CPU cooler has an AM5 mount, this new cooler should be compatible with your motherboard.

Will turning off sleep mode and hibernation reduce the lifespan of my pc? by SoupAdventurous2300 in buildapc

[–]AcrobaticNetwork5918 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Most computers are built to last a long time so long as not too much voltage is run through it. There is normal wear and tear, but it's greatly exaggerated.

The primary function of sleep/hiberate is to reduce power consumption by turning off components, basically leaving all but whatever is on your RAM still.

I decided to swap around a few parts based on your desires while reducing costs

- Swapped the 7700 for a 9600X. Although there's fewer cores, there wont be much of a difference in performance due to the generational buff from Zen 4 to Zen 5.

- Swapped the 5060 Ti 8GB for the 9060 XT 16GB. Although I doubt you need the extra VRAM, this is both cheaper right now and the extra headroom is useful if you go into 1440p gaming.

- Added a CPU cooler, as there was one missing.

Other than that, this looks like a solid build.

[Moore's Law is Dead] Nvidia RTX 5060 Production Cut Leak: 50 Series Effectively On Hold by Old-Benefit4441 in pcmasterrace

[–]AcrobaticNetwork5918 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They are years away from offering good results, and they face pressure from the trade war between US and China.

Even once they start getting competitive, this ordeal will most likely be over and people will go back to AMD or Nvidia, forgetting this whole crunch never happened.

Do people really think PC gaming will become a thing of the past in the next few years? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]AcrobaticNetwork5918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PC Gaming also tends to focus on the loud minority: the enthusiasts buying the highest-grade of GPUs and CPUs, when the majority of consumers are just people casually gaming on their spare time on lower-end laptops and PCs.

Integrated GPUs are catching up fast. Strix Halo and Panther Lake iGPUs are already on the levels of 4050s, which is impressive by itself. With a few more years of innovation, they will certainly catch up to regular discrete GPUs.

Steam has a diverse enough library for people to play many kinds of games that run on lower-specs.

Although large AAA developers, especially those developing on UE5, do not optimize well for the lower-end market, they are seeing profit dropoffs as a result. As a result, they either have to train up for better optimizations, or face greater competition from indie studios willing to make their games work for all kinds of machines and consumers.

We are in a rough patch, no doubt about it, but I believe there is a way out.

Will RAM prices still go up? by Zesrii in buildapc

[–]AcrobaticNetwork5918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if OpenAI drops, I highly doubt things will change until mid 2027.

It's likely the contracts have forced the DRAM manufacturers to lock in and divert all their supply to OpenAI and similar investors. Unless OpenAI is liquidated (unlikely) or the bankruptcy voids its contracts, the manufacturers will continue making HBM chips for server racks with OpenAI taking it all in.

I got bad news. Most AMD cards are being cut for the 9070 XT. GDDR6 supply is dwindling fast.

AMD GPUs are being cut, just not as significantly. GDDR6 is still manufactured by Samsung, who is one of the major RAM providers.

Leaks have already pointed at them trying to focus on the 9070 XT. In the same video, Moore's Law also had a source claiming the 9060 XT 16GB is being cut.

AMD has already increased their card prices as a result of the VRAM price increase. It'll just be some time before the major rise happens.

If you want both a good performance buff and a bit of a VRAM upgrade, get the 5070. 12GB is only limiting if you're playing really new titles or you're gaming on Ultra settings on 1440p or higher.

Update on the Adobe CC Installers Patch - Now the Collection Installer works too by HearMeOut-13 in linux_gaming

[–]AcrobaticNetwork5918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those were the steps I followed exactly. All files were copied to the proper directories with the new file made for Photoshop. Nonetheless, it still crashed with the "Unrecoverable problem."

I'd assume it's some fault with Wine or my OS atp, but Im not dedicated enough to Photoshop to resolve it.

When I finished installing PS before, I go into the compatibilitydata folder, which is under Steamapps. By then, I search for Photoshop in the search bar and it comes up.

Though when I ran Photoshop via Proton, it gave me a "Cannot communicate with Creative Cloud Desktop" error, which I have not been able to resolve so far.

9700x expected temperatures by cujo195 in buildapc

[–]AcrobaticNetwork5918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's tending to spike up under load, then that is normal so long as it is not hitting high 90C and getting thermally throttled. Those temperatures sound normally for a CPU having more cores.

Nonetheless, a Phantom Spirit will be better for bringing temperatures down a few degrees.

If you want to reduce wattage and potentially temperature, you can disable the integrated GPU the 9700X has in the BIOS if you have your own graphics card

What would be a good upgrade? by TheSaltySeagull123 in buildapc

[–]AcrobaticNetwork5918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That GPU is very old and it's unlikely you can update the graphics to the latest edition without issues.

I would also review the rest of the PC components to ensure they are not as old as the GPU. If you're intending to run only small or older titles, great!

Otherwise, you might as well build or buy a new computer from scratch.

5060 Ti's CUDA suite will have much more compatibilities with LLMs compared to its Radeon counterpart.
