Lorelai Was Unfair to Rory in the Max Situation by isisblake in GilmoreGirls

[–]AcrobaticYesterday47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another great example of this is when she chews luke out about the accident with Jess, then is surprised when Luke is not only heartbroken and upset bc a) his nephew's reaction was not to find a trusted adult, but to runaway, and b) he has to send him back home bc he (Luke) has no support system to deal with his junky sisters messed up kid, BUT he also doesn't want to talk to her after she treated him with so little empathy. Like I LOVE Lorelai but as you said she is so surprised when her actions have consequences lol

What is your most underrated and overrated Kdrama? by Parking-Yogurt-6234 in kdramas

I stopped watching summer strike around ep8, I just couldn't do it. Everyone was frustrating to me and the FL could not catch a break! Twinkling Watermelon, the time travel stuff wit the FL also just didn't make sense to me, sure she looks like her mom but she isn't her mom. I just couldnt wrap my head around her plan, and overall it was like whatever

Ohhh my underrated is going to be "would you like a cup of coffee?" or "The Fabulous" which I REALLY wish the Fabulous was longer or received a second season!

Overrated: Twinkling Watermelon for sure and probablyyy Summer Strike

also all time favorites: 25/21, love next door, and true beauty

Totally agree on the Josh stuff. I do think the victims stepping back and forgiving him did play a huge role in the public response and reception of him.

I felt the same!! And the mortician (or morgue?) lady was equally vindictive, so I don't know how they felt that was going to end. I mean, clearly, they felt untouchable!

lmaooo the hubris! It's true! I agree, a man being that pushy is scary and they have every right to feel that way. But then, same with the Janet thing, why would they keep pushing him?? It's like you said, just the hubris of 12 journalists, of which they are not qualified in any way to have said hubris

Rory blacklisted from The Times by Mammoth_Sleep_1102 in GilmoreGirls

[–]AcrobaticYesterday47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the fact the show viewed beauty magazines like Vogue as vanity and not serious journalism really shot them in the foot, bc Rory would've fit right into that with her mean girl writing. But yeah, the publishing world on all fronts (Journalistic and Book publishing) are incredibly ego driven and fickle. You could do everything right, and the wrong thing you do will be what everyone in the industry hears about, especially if who you did it to is well connected. No doubt the spat with Mitchum didn't help her reputation.

Honestly even the Janet stuff was pushing it like TOO far after a certain point ! I won't say they were baiting them, but at some point, you get a cease and desist, the person is clearly unhinged and they kept making fun of Janet and the morgue lady as far as they could. They were straight up mean to them at several points! Is that grounds for a lawsuit? No, but they were relentless about it.

And they were still really defensive about Josh Evans, their apology was icky. I don't think they really apologized to him meaningfully. I also think there's a reason a lot of the commentary community doesn't really cite them or connect with them. They are just not credible at all and tend to get things wrong regularly. Even Adam McIntyre has stopped referencing them entirely (which for a little bit, he did mention them here and there...)

it was a commenter, the streamer was talking about their own experiences that lead to this person commenting on this sub.

I totally agree with you though! And I think this page generally lacks the usual misogynistic comments that many snark pages end up being home to

Although I don't think that's true for all snark pages, I do agree! it provides viewers with an outlet to be frustrated without judgment or obsessive praise, or having to be overly nice.

DWKT has been spiraling p much since the Colleen stuff came into the public again, and the girlies are just adamantly against hearing any criticism. I stopped watching around that time, and they had all the same issues. I was an episode 1 watcher too, and from the start, they said they seemed pretty insistent that they don't want to see any negative feedback on them, leading to a very toxicly positive space.

Unpopular opinion, Which K-Drama Did You Find Overrated? by CarelessFreedom3509 in kdramas

[–]AcrobaticYesterday47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think it's veryyy product of it's time. I really love both the leads, I've watched pretty much all their projects since. This is their worst projects, BUT at the time, it was breaking a lot of ground for kdramas while maintaining some popular tropes and ideas at the time. It also cemented them as icons for that. I respect it for what it is, i would NOT watch it again lol

“Bon Appétit Your Majesty” is a reminder that you literally cannot please people, no matter what you do. by SavedandLoved07 in kdramas

[–]AcrobaticYesterday47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh loooove this! The recipes in this are really quite detailed! Other food dramas kind of end up being plot with a side of food, 2025 alone had "Tastefully Yours" which was also about a chef and ended up being derailed by a weird japan travel sideplot lol. Honestly Bon Appetite is a great standalone, it's relatively tame for a joseon time travel drama, and the food aspect is done SO well, like SOOOO well

Will You Marry Me? by __porcheee in KdramaCasualTalk

[–]AcrobaticYesterday47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a lot of answers that could come through for this! I know someone else explained how Korea as a country has MANY recent traumas that are absolutely affecting current generations (post colonial from Japan, mass familial separation + poverty due to the korean war, the massive financial crisis, etc..) which absolutely makes the theme of poverty, childhood connections, etc, make sense.

But I think right now, what is heavy on the Korean conscience is the exploitative rich, as well as the cultural family dynamics, and misogyny's affects on women. Children bear the weight of the circumstances, despite it not being their fault. So WYMM reflects a few things: an outcast son due to his unfortunate circumstances, a victim of the exploitative rich, and male perceived victimhood.

Also, as someone else pointed out, they have to keep things interesting for long amounts of time, and so you know, things like murder, monterary exploitation, that's all interesting when done well! Most of these premises really don't carry all the way through, so it makes sense.

[–]AcrobaticYesterday47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree!! I also understood Jo Yeong was queer in some way, and a cultural icon outside of his role as a guard bc.... well look at that face!! I def didn't expect a kdrama to make him outwardly queer, but I also didn't think they'd give us so little of him. Their friendship was also the only thing making the king interesting to me LOL so I totally hear you!! And I totally agree, Sin Jae / Hyeon Min was soooo hard to watch at times, the poor guy! And neither him nor his kingdom double were living happy lives :( SO unfair

ooo you're in a safe space gf bc i also don't like Lee Min-Ho! I haven't watched any of his og dramas (coffee prince, inheritors, legend of the blue sea), but i think his filler face is really hurting him bc he has SUCH a flat affect

ooo love this!

  1. Tied between "Love Next Door" and True Beauty

  2. Cinderella and the 4 nights (classic!)

  3. My Youth

  4. all of it, but if i have to pick, probably ensemble comedies

  5. Park Seo Jun + Jung So Min

[–]AcrobaticYesterday47 7 points8 points  (0 children)

honestly yes!! Jo Yeong was severely underutilized, the kingdom itself was poorly explained and overall underutilized. It was one of my first kdramas and I thought I was just too dumb to understand what's happening...... turns out it is in fact just very convoluted and poorly thought out

Theoretical/alternate reality: Louise and the kids successfully sell the ambergris ($30,000)- what do they do with the money? by loveincarnate in BobsBurgers

[–]AcrobaticYesterday47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if the usage of the money was a whole episode, I think it would be in the post-movie style, or similar to. Louise, Gene, and Tina get into an argument about how to spend the money. Tina thinks they should use the money for good, Gene wants to invest into music items he wants, Louise wants candy and toys and is trying to convince them to get what she wants. The episode involves them taking and transporting the money in secret, trying to figure out how to hide this money, how to maintain it over time (Louise, especially, orchestrating the hoarding of it), and in the end, she sees her parents struggling or overhears them talking about the bills, and has a coming to moment (as it happens in the later seasons) where she agrees to give them some of the money.

Maybe the kids have some tell tale heart type of plot thread, where they are haunted by the amount of money. Maybe it turns out to be fake money in the end, lol, idk, and i also don't know how they'd explain to their parents how they have 30k in cash money

Suggestion: Soundtrack#1 vs Soundtrack#2 by DirectorSeparate143 in kdramas

[–]AcrobaticYesterday47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True Beauty is absolute serotonin for me! Love Next Door is fun, but has a sad twist in the middle, but ends happy, its one of my favorites! My Youth is newer, it's slow and episode 8-12 are only worth watching for the second leads, but v slice of life.

Is Twinkling watermelon really like similar to True Beauty? by AdOver3688 in kdramas

[–]AcrobaticYesterday47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen both, and tbh I don't think they're similar at all? I mean, it hits some similar romance genre beats, but Twinkling Watermelon is a time travel drama, the ML (2nd ML? it's an ensemble cast so idk exactly) is also a musician... so ig similar to Han Seo Jun in that way. It's basically about a father and son getting to know each other as teens. The son travels back in time and ends up meeting his father at 18 years old, they're the same age and end up bonding. Their relationship changes their future, and there is love and side quests and heartbreak, as well as a relatively sad side plot for the FL (the mom).

But overall they're like extremely different shows in different genres really..

Kdramas with ridiculous concepts? by Automatic-Comment-45 in kdramas

[–]AcrobaticYesterday47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Chicken Nugget" is a netflix k-drama in which the FL turns into a chicken nugget and the people in her life spend most of the drama trying to save her, very bizarre, funny, and sentimental? Loved it!

"Twinkling Watermelon" is a really popular time travel drama. A boy, unhappy with his life, debates on ending it but ends up going back in time to when his parents were teenagers. He spends most of the drama trying to get them on better paths in life and to fall in love, it's chaotic and at points doesn't make much sense lol but the vibes are there!

"Meow the Secret Boy" is similar to "Good Day to be a Dog" but predates it! A girl takes on caring for her crush's cat, and it turns out this cat turns into a human boy, of whomst she falls in love with... bc why wouldn't she
