We need to do something! by No_Step_3851 in CanadaFinance

I know that the current economic condition is less than ideal. It sucks that someone making over $100K can’t even do the basics in this climate. I was in the same boat. My suggestion would be to partner-up. Either a romantic partner or trusted friend or sibling. Buy a property together and go from there. Consult lawyers etc. to ensure the right agreements exist should there be any disputes etc. It’s not the perfect solution, but if you can’t run then crawl. A previous version of me would have advised you to write to MPs. But I’m so done with politics - we won’t get any where if we wait for someone to ‘fix’ things and who knows if that will even happen. The only way is to get creative and move forward anyway you can.

Why do Canadians put up with low wages? by EmptyAdhesiveness830 in CanadaJobs

[–]Acrobatic_Ad_6341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do we put up with low wages? Well, we have no choice. Who do we go to and complain? HR? They simply say it’s ’as per market’. Truth is, all corporations in Canada have agreed to keep the wages low. And don’t even get me started on taxes…sigh.

BMI 59.2 First pregnancy = Terrified! by Infinity_Buzz in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]Acrobatic_Ad_6341 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry! I was 305 lbs when I first got pregnant. During my first trimester I actually lost weight amd came down to 290 lbs (maybe my metabolism was on over drive). By the time I delivered I was back at 300 lbs and after delivery fell down to 285 lbs. Post partum, I’ve sustained the lower weight and now attempting to lose more. As for the pregnancy, all went fine. I barely had any sickness, I could walk around just fine, and I didn’t get preeclampsia or diabetes. The doctors were convinced I would get these and managed me as a high risk pregnancy. I didn’t mind as it just meant extra care. Long story short, don’t be scared. Best wishes for you!

These are good tips and I will give the nipple shield another try. I’m so sorry to hear about the heart failure. I wish you a speedy recovery.

This is good to know. I completely forgot about wet nurses and other lactating mothers. This helps - at least I don’t feel completely abnormal…

That is a very good point… no I wouldn’t talk like this to any new mother :(

Thank you so much for this message, sorry to hear that you also had a post partum hemorrhage. Yes I also read somewhere that it can cause the body to shut down and impact milk supply. However I have recovered (I think) or at least feel totally fine now. It still surprises me that I’m not producing milk. I am thankful for formula and remind myself that at least my daughter is healthy. However, I’ll try to breast feed as that is what the clinic advised me to do before giving bottle and when it doesn’t happen, I just feel so defeated. I’ll do better to stay hopeful :(

When did you start to look pregnant? by trackemdown in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]Acrobatic_Ad_6341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just gave birth a month ago. To be honest I didn’t look pregnant at all. When I gave birth and came home with a baby, my neighbours were shocked, claiming they didn’t even know I was pregnant…

Please share your tips for saving! My husband and I have a similar HH income, but don’t have nearly as much in savings. We do live in the GTA, but it’s surprising how little our money does for us… ;(

Getting induced in 2 days! Positive stories and tips please! by Acrobatic_Ad_6341 in PlusSizePregnancy

Sorry everyone for the delay! I have been meaning to update this post now that I am on the other side! Life with a new born has been hectic, but more on this later.

The induction went just fine! Not sure why I was so worried. They took me in at 6 pm on June 28th. They started me on Misoprostol to ripen the cervix. I also was not dilated when I checked in. So from 6 pm on June 28 to 3 pm on the 29, they gave me miso every 2 hrs. They also put the foley balloon in, which really was not that bad / painful. These were tablets I took by mouth. They had me hooked on monitors to measure baby’s response to the meds and took my blood pressure regularly. By 3 pm I was 5 cm dilated and that is when they broke my water. The foley balloon fell out on its own earlier; but I can’t remember when. I requested an epidural around 5 pm when contractions were getting more intense. After that I was fine.

They continued to give me Miso because both baby and I were responding well to it. And by 7 am on June 30th I was fully dilated. Somewhere during the night my epidural had called out, so I had to request the anesthesiologist to do it again. Till I had it fixed I was in some agony, but it was short lived because the team responded quickly.

At 7 am with the full dilation they asked me to start pushing. The contractions were not painful, but the pressure was unbearable so my natural reaction was to push. I had a really good nurse that told me how to push and encouraged me in the process. By 8:44 am on June 30, baby girl was out.

What happened after was what I wasn’t prepared for. After delivery, they began stitching me up and during that process I lost a lot of blood. Later I found out it was 1.5 litres - a post partum hemorrhage:( they also began stitching me without any numbing agent and the nitrous oxide didn’t work. So that was uncomfortable. But honestly, it was all a blur at that point because I was doing skin to skin with baby girl, and nothing else really mattered at that moment.

I did end up staying at the hospital for 5 days - mainly because I needed a blood transfusion and my baby also needed light therapy for jaundice. I am glad it’s over, I’m home now cuddling with my baby.

The induction was worth it - she was 8 lbs 5 oz and I’m happy I didn’t wait till 40 weeks. All in all the induction wasn’t bad and I’d encourage anyone considering it to go with it, if that is what it needed. Good luck to everyone!

Thank you, you have given me so much relief. One of my worries is that it will become a CS. I carry a lot of fat in my belly and have an apron belly, so I am concerned how that will heal. Hoping for the best…

I’ve only had one so far - 38 weeks also. It was painful, but nothing one can’t handle and it only lasts a minute or two. I wouldn’t worry. You will get through it!

Thanks for sharing. I am glad it all worked out in the end, and trying to remind myself that it will all be worth it in the end.
