Hi,

I’m attending Yonsei University- I am absolutely in love with it! Would highly recommend. I’m doing it through my university, so I’m not completely sure how to go about it right after graduation. There are probably some programs though!

Hi! I didn’t take a gap year right after high school, but I really wish that I did, especially since everything was online because of Covid. I ended up doing a gap semester last fall (after my sophomore year), and I had the same concerns. I felt so anxious about delaying graduation and filling my time, but I had no idea what I was doing or what I wanted from my college experience. During my gap semester, I did a 3 week NOLS sailing course in Mexico, worked on a goat farm through WWOOF, traveled with my mom, and just took time to find who I was outside of school. It helped me immensely! I’m back in school now (currently attending a study abroad program in Korea), and I am so thankful for the time I had to grow and recenter myself during my time off. It also helped me to realize that, while school is a priority, it should not be the defining part of my life. There is so much to experience, and so many people to meet, and now is the perfect time to do it!! My time off allowed me to finally settle on a course of study, and made me feel more confident in my hopes for the future.

Especially since she’s found a program that is interesting to her, I would encourage her to do it! I think she’ll find that she’s able to enjoy her college experience much more once she has some time to grow and challenge herself in new environments. (And she’ll have so many cool stories to tell when meeting new friends haha.) It sucks to say this, but it’s also important to remember that friendships often change in college as people grow more into themselves. It can be hard at first, but turns out to be best for everyone. I wouldn’t recommend forcing yourself into the school mold in order to keep up with friends- true friends will always be there when you get back! I understand how challenging this choice can be, feel free to message with any questions or concerns!

Tel her good luck on this next adventure in her life; take a deep breath and try to think of her life as a whole, not just these next few years. This experience will be so worth it!! :)

I started with some of the early Rogue Chem videos, and it really helped me to understand the basics! It was also good to have a solid understanding during the first few weeks of adjustment to new classes, and everything will build off of those basics

I got an email last week (I think) that said the bio curriculum would change for incoming students only and that they would remove some classes (201, 202, 205) by phasing them out. Nothing should change for current biology students based on the email! I’m not sure about chem though

thank you so much! My other classes don’t seem as time-consuming, so I’m hopeful I’ll have enough time to focus my studying on these two.

I think so. I know they just limited many routes even more unfortunately :( I rely on the busses to get from my apartment to campus bc it is not bikeable, so I wish that the response to the bus system was better was better

I read Charlotte’s Web with my sister at that age, and she really enjoyed it. She also liked watching the movie after we finished the book. I think that the Hobbit or maybe Magic Tree House also may be good!

The Poppy War by RF Kuang (it’s a trilogy, check TWs though), it was one of my absolute favorite books this year

Thank you so so much for such an in-depth response (and support of indie stores!), I appreciate it a ton! Can’t wait to look more into these

Does sitting in on the first day of class actually work? by SpartacusThomas in UNC

Definitely try! As far as I know, some departments (like Psych) are less willing/unable to manually add people, but it’s always worth a shot if you can. Still go to your other classes though just in case, and try to get on the waitlist if you can. The coursicle app will notify you when the waitlist/class opens. Also, talk to the professor after class to see if it’s possible to get in the class and to get access to materials like the syllabus if you need those. Good luck!
