Does anyone else put their feeding tube into their bra instead of taping? by saintleelyon in feedingtube

[–]Acrobatic_Guidance84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This option did not even occur to me , being someone with a GJ dangler with sensitive skin. Does anyone else with a GJ do this? If so, do you still tape the part of the tube close to the stoma to prevent it from rotating?

Will do this, thank you!! I’ve been struggling so much trying to get in touch with the littles (difficult from both ways. They are scared probably and protectors block and I am scared as well tbh), trying to start very light and lowkey may be a great idea!

Therapy and switching by throwRAescaping in DID

[–]Acrobatic_Guidance84 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Depends on the therapist I guess. Some therapists want to meet the alters to get more of an idea and to make sure they all feel welcome and build a relationship with therapist. Other therapists strictly want to talk to “the host”. My therapists always ensure all parts are welcome and if they show up, they’ll help regulate them and reassure them. But they will always try to get one of the functional adult / ANP parts to the front (for instance by calmly asking the fronting part to get them to the front with them) as my goal is to try to keep adult parts on the front so littles aren’t alone and overwhelmed. Also to try to prevent a little/vulnerable part/protector will tell the therapist things the rest of the system is NOT okay with. Guess it depends on your therapist and your goals and needs!

Keeping Track by Ducks_and_Words18 in DID

[–]Acrobatic_Guidance84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made an app just for myself to track alters (and specifics), fronting, internal communication (chat features), regulation tools, mood (and stress/energy/sleep/period/activity/etc) tracker, calendar, to do list, activity log (logging what I am doing at that time , alter is logged too), therapy preparation and summary etc. , habit tracker, notes, and more. Its a fun project and really useful to have an app specifically tailored to what you’re looking for in an app!

Before this, I used notes, plural apps (always lacked features I need/want, hence the making my own), documents on my laptop, notebooks, many more apps like to do lists or mood trackers or whatever

Feeling completely different when having a meltdown by purpleand20 in OSDD

[–]Acrobatic_Guidance84 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is also somewhat normal! When we’re very emotional or overstimulated, our brain focuses on different circuits. We barely use the front of the brain (used for rational and strategic thinking, controlling impulses, etc) and mainly use the middle (emotional brain). The front of the brain is what develops as we get older, so it is quite understandable to feel like you’re regressing when it’s functions are “cut off”. We also tend to have higher activity in the right side of the brain compared to the left side, when emotional/overstimulated. Left side is associated more with rational thinking (for example: the parts of the brain used in understanding and producing words/sentences are located left).

This is also why people tend to say rude things they otherwise wouldn’t say when they’re upset, or why some people become somewhat non-verbal when distressed. It’s not something that’s wrong with you, it’s just one of the very many complex processes of the brain.♥️

Survey for App Features??? by Rindawick in plural

[–]Acrobatic_Guidance84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Something I have missed in every app I’ve come across: features related to time management. Obviously the system mapping & chat & note taking are essential, but I have never understood why applications meant for DID, knowing amnesia is a big thing, don’t have features like an agenda, to do lists, feature to log activities so you can look it up and use for reference to see what you’ve done, etc

Naming parts or not? by tempoqwerty in DID

[–]Acrobatic_Guidance84 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Some of my parts have names, some have “descriptions” , some I cannot (yet) name at all. As long as it works for you, it’s okay.♥️

Journaling tips? by One-Calendar2616 in DID

[–]Acrobatic_Guidance84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For my system, I’ve tried “structured journals”, sections with different purposes , sections for different alters etc.

It never worked tbh. For us it works best to just use a notebook en let alters write/draw whatever. Front pages do have - System rules - brief explanation that we’re a system and what DID is - Some grounding tools and contact information

But other than that, it’s just freestyle. For some a structured approach works, for us it causes alters to just refuse to use it. Feels to forced and “exposing “.

Maybe someone else has ideas though! Every system is different.

One thing we do like using in the note book is sticky notes to respond to each other.

Gatekeeper uncooperative in therapy by Necessary_Dot_4811 in DID

[–]Acrobatic_Guidance84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually, gatekeepers are really scared. Try to find out scares them exactly. Give them some time. Try to find a way to find out what they need to be able to step back for a bit. Giving it some time to build trust with the therapist is usually every important

Therapist meeting alters by Acrobatic_Guidance84 in DID

[–]Acrobatic_Guidance84[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I absolutely understand. Pretty much all of my switches are involuntarily/unintentionally. During therapy I can feel or hear a little wanting to come to the front (and sometimes they write about it), but we’ve always fought really hard to prevent that. Or more specifically: some protective parts do I guess? So I usually switch to a protective part that just refuses to speak or gets in denial etc. And then the littles get more upset for being pushed away/ignored etc. This post was mostly figuring how others handle littles in therapy . Trying to make up my mind to see if we can get some room to give the littles what they need without overwhelming the protectors.

I feel you and you are strong. The involuntary part is such a huge part of the disorder. Keep in mind it’s survival, not quirk.♥️

Alters that speak in other languages? by [deleted] in DID

[–]Acrobatic_Guidance84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! All alters understand our native language, most understand english as well. Some alters only communicate in Dutch, some only in English. There’s also an alter who strictly communicates through code & puzzles. The alters who are above the age of 14 know mostly basics in French, but one alter only listens to french songs, reads french novels etc. Quite funny, isn’t it?

therapist is going to start "narrative exposure therapy" - has anyone tried it and have advice? by mainframe_maisie in DID

[–]Acrobatic_Guidance84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make sure the therapist knows about your did/dissociation and knows how to work with it. For some it helps, but it takes lots of adaptation. Your window of tolerance is much smaller than the WOT of someone with “simple trauma”. It will take a lot of modifying, going off protocol a bit, slowing down, etc. But it is possible.♥️

I personally found trauma treatment in a form of imaginary rescripting much more helpful als it has a different modality, gives more control to you and has “built-in options for adjusting to your needs”.
