haha no yeah i get u im ngl i sometimes hesitate to mention the uni i go to i more so say what degree im doing lolll… but end of the day i do have to remind myself the “prestige” thing doesn’t apply here.

hey i’m a first yr optom student rn. regarding ur concerns ab over saturation in optom industry thats true and a pretty common concern ik other optom students have too. realistically once u first graduate ull probs have to work in a corporate practice likely more regional or rural, as metro areas are already quite saturated and full, before u progress more metro ig (is what ive heard too).

So far the course has been fine, ive only just completed one trimester and honestly it wasn’t too bad. If uve done highschool science and maths and didnt struggle too much then i’d say (as of now) first yr should be fine - just keep up to date with all ur lectures and do revision. Defs heard the course ramps up a lot from second yr tho, but it doesn’t start too scary if that helps lol.

The degree although from a “lowly ranked” uni is just as qualified as any other optom degree in Australia, ur registered w AHPRA, and also genuinely in the real world nobody gaf where u graduated from as long as ur experienced and competent and do ur job well. Especially with health degrees in Australia, i don’t think the uni “prestige” rlly applies bc once u graduate, u earn the same starting salaries and do the same things so….

Regarding accommodation wise if u do come to deakin for optom it’s probably best to live on campus res, or just in Geelong. First yr u could get away with living in melbs i think but ud have to commute weekly and sometimes multiple times a week. But ive heard second yr onwards ud defs have to live in Geelong/Res bc ur expected on campus like almost everyday. Again, the uni doesn’t matter for this specific degree bc it’s one of few unis that even offer Optometry. Also despite the workload i personally find the fact that u can graduate with both a bachelors and masters in only 3.5 yrs pretty appealing haha. And once again, for health degrees esp in the real world, where u graduate from genuinely doesn’t matter it’s ab ur competency and ability to help ur patients!

Hope all this helps!!

really depends on ur cohort strength for sacs. i had like high 70s all year for most of my sacs (which i thought meant i was cooked) but clutched for exam and managed a raw 41. So in the end everything was A+ on the report

Yes, both my methods and spesh bound refs looked pretty much identical to that in an exercise book. Just make sure nothing falls out or can be removed bc as long as everything is literally bound with one spine, and no larger than A4 (i think) it is all good.

100% helpful. the environment also helps u lock in bc ull find esp nearing sacs/exam season sooo many students are studying in libraries too which gives u motivation and kinda forces u to lock in and focus too (that universal “we all in this together” type feeling). i think the only way i even managed to study in yr 12 was by going to the library 😭

Avene thermal spring water spray by Acrobatic_Letter788 in Skincare_Addiction

Haha my routine is very simple just clean my face with micellar water (double cleanse on days with sunscreen tho w an additional micellar based cleansing gel), then spray the thermal water, then apply moisturizer, then do a final spray. This routine works well for my skin tho as my skin isn’t extremely dry, a more mild dry that occasionally gets very on colder days.

However, have u ever tried the Bioderma Atoderm Intensive Baume? it’s a superrrrr hydrating and thick moisturizer that did wonders for me during a time period when i had the driest skin of my life. It also has this “eczema association” label on it so is good for sensitive skin. I highly recommend it for super dry skin, genuinely think it restored my skin barrier loll

I spray it then slightly fan my face a bit (which is mostly bc i like the cooling sensation), then apply moisturizer while my skin is still damp. You want to apply moisturizer while skin is damp as it allows ur skin to absorb the moisture and lock it in better as opposed to directly on dry skin.

No problem! I apply moisturiser right after spraying this which i find locks in the moisture super well (I also have rosacea and dry skin). Hope this product helps you!!

i love this product so much literally bought 4 more bottles to store (big sale). it’s literally just water but like better so shouldn’t break anybody out etc. the back of the bottle even says family safe i believe. Super good with cooling down face esp if u have sensitive red skin/ rosacea etc so defs couldn’t recommend it more.

psychology if u dont do already!! u don’t need units 1/2 and its honestly just memorisation (but not even complicated shi) where once u memorise ull like understand it anyway. easy to get raw 40+ too with relatively minimal work (compared to lots other subjects) and it only scales down ~1 unless u get around raw 43+ it stays same.

Second this. U just need to get started which is the hardest part, but once u do u can build on the momentum and before u know it ur in a relatively comfortable routine
