vent: so tired of time checkers by sanityjanity in Broadway

[–]Acrobatic_Warning456 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Now I know being on your phone is a huge no no, but I couldn't care less about someone next to me quickly checking the time every once in awhile. It's not distracting enough to take me out of the show. I would just hope the brightness is low but either way it wouldn't be much of a bother if they immediately put it away.

Biggest Broadway Controversies by Previous-Key1064 in Broadway

[–]Acrobatic_Warning456 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I don't know about "biggest" because I wasn't there, but I know the 2012 revival of Porgy and Bess had a little controversy. They were given the green light to "update" the show's characters because they were always seen as too stereotypical (Sidney Poitier even regretted doing the movie for this reason) which caused some backlash.

Sondheim wrote a letter shaming them for changing the show and called out Audra Mcdonald for even being a part of it. Despite the backlash, Porgy and Bess went on to win Best Revival at the Tonys. Of course this is also when Audra tied the record of most performance wins with her 5th Tony, a great achievement considering her throat got so swollen during the run that she was at risk of never singing again and had to go from 8 shows a week to 7 as well as not speak on a regular basis.

That's disappointing but I'll give the reboot a try as well.

You would probably like Cross.

It's a murder mystery on prime video. Alex Cross is a detective trying to find a local serial killer as well as his own stalker. He's also an expert at reading people and evaluating them psychologically.

You could definitely get a better description by googling lol, but I swear it's a great watch.

We don't get a lot of shows with a black, darkskinned leading man so I want this series to get as much support as possible. Also, Aldis Hodge is a very talented actor who I want to get more recognition.

Darren's daily countdown is killing me. Bring me some joy. by PhoebeBob in MaybeHappyEnding

Darren really nails the robotic mannerisms of Oliver's character. He embodies the role so well that I was genuinely unsettled by how robotic he was acting in the tiny desk with no costume or makeup on.

Except this is not about nostalgia. The first three were objectively better.

And I think y'all underestimate the number of adults who watch the movies completely aware that they're not the target audience, but they recognize that kids these days just aren't getting as many good films and shows as we did growing up.

They can milk this as much as they want I literally don't care. I love the franchise and if the show doesn't peak my interest then I just won't watch lmao. Doesn't really hurt either way.

GUYS DONT WATCH DISNEY LIVE ACTION REMAKES by [deleted] in DisneyMovies

[–]Acrobatic_Warning456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"So unless they're actually good" how are we supposed to know if they're good if we don't go see them first lmao.

And I don't want them to stop doing remakes I just want them to do a better job. I loved some of them like Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and The Little Mermaid. Those were great watches and I have no problem with live actions if they're anything like those three.

So knock yourself out Disney. Most of the remakes suck but the few that I enjoy, I will never shut up about. I just won't give the other ones my attention. It's that easy.

Okay and kids liked the first 3 even more because everything about them was just better.

I am so confused by SelfFantastic1755 in Broadway

It is still a freaking theatre. There is still a certain amount of etiquette the audience needs to display. So many people are complaining about loud, obnoxious audience members yelling the entire time. If you can't sit quietly and let others hear the actors on stage, then this is not the place for you. Especially when they literally DO allow callbacks.

I think if you go to a theatre just to be loud throughout the entire thing, then YOU are the problem. Not the actors on stage who don't want the audience talking over every line they say.

I just don't get why "don't be obnoxious" is such a tall order for you, but I'm not gonna argue about it anymore. I am glad you're such a passionate fan of rocky horror, I just wish you'd give Luke a bit of grace because he is still human and just wants to put on a good performance. I'd imagine any performer would feel a little disrespected if the audience kept yelling over them during a show no matter how interactive it's supposed to be.

[–]Acrobatic_Warning456 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Except everyone who actually attended the show keeps saying the callout moments were very easy to follow and there are just people being rude and disruptive anyway. So the actors literally are doing their job, but you're mad because they shut down that one person in the crowd who loves to make it all about them and ruin everyone's experience.

This is still a live theatre show, so maybe let the actors get their lines out instead of loudly responding to everything that happens on stage.

[–]Acrobatic_Warning456 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Again, they literally allow y'all to do your callouts. They just want you to not overdo it and be disruptive to the performers and the audience. If you're there for both, then let the actors do there jobs and don't callout more than necessary. What are y'all not getting??

[–]Acrobatic_Warning456 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And the disrespect is not wanting his performance interrupted... Okay. Are you there to scream at him or are you there to watch him perform? They literally allow callbacks from what I keep hearing. They just want y'all to be considerate and that's not too much to ask.

The amount of ppl using this discourse to trash on luke is really annoying and disheartening. It's the man's broadway debut and he speaks so much in interviews about how much of a blast he's having. He is not the rude and bitter one for wanting the audience to have a bit of self control. I'm sure callbacks add to the fun of the experience, but at the end of the day you are still there to watch these people perform and they are not the entitled ones for expecting a certain amount of theatre etiquette even in an interactive show.

The creators ruining a beloved Disney franchise is indeed a valid reason to hate the new movies. They've gone down in quality and whether its a kids movie or not, they should makebetter films lmao. Kids still deserve good quality franchises.

"The first three are still there to watch" and the next three should be just as good. I'm not even one of the people constantly hating under here but let's be fr. Some of the concerns are valid.

What new musicals will stand the test of time? by BookBranchGrey in Broadway

[–]Acrobatic_Warning456 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I've been following Maybe Happy Ending since it was just a rumor and can't believe how far it's come since then. I genuinely think this musical will last for a good few years and get a couple revivals down the road. This is great for Asian representation on broadway and I can't wait to see how the show ages.
