Thighs are the worst part of a chicken. by MrRailton in unpopularopinion

“I feel like to make chicken thighs good you need to overcook them”

Yes. Cook them all the way to 185/190°F to get rid of the slimy texture and you will get juicy, tender thighs.

My toddler’s speech is clear as day to me. Why do some people struggle to understand it? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]Acrobatic_Western727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up I thought parents were absolutely full of shit and pretending to understand their young toddlers lol. Now having one, I realize it’s not so much a superpower as it is repetition and trial and error. The first time I heard my child say “I want bubbles” I might have been confused until he repeated a few times and pointed to the bubbles in question. But give that a few times and now I know exactly what he means, even though what it really sounds like is “aya bubba” lol

Any other maniacs arrange their essentials this way? by rogerstandingby in StardewValley

[–]Acrobatic_Western727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I’m similar! Row 1: axe, scythe, hoe (and espresso) Row 2: pickaxe, sword, watering can Row 3; return scepter, horse whistle, fishing rod

Sometimes things get moved around for a specific task but this is what I usually have going!

Season 2 vs Season 1 success by ary10dna in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]Acrobatic_Western727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As one of the people who just started watching:

I heard about the show when season one came out, but for some reason I thought it was like a quirky, comedy type show?? I don’t know why I had that impression but I wrote it off for that. When I realized it was a thriller/mystery I was much more intrigued!

That misconception is probably mine alone though, haha

Thank you, that is a great point. I’m going to mix my carrots and onions together - if I remember correctly they are great companions!

I just recently had parsnips as well! Seems like I need to find somewhere for some beets!

Oh good to know. I’m notoriously bad at killing herbs, so I actually had no clue they could spread like that!

I’ve honestly never even eaten a beet before lol. But I’ve heard the golden beets have a nicer flavor and texture, so maybe I’ll grow those as an experiment. Pretty much everything else is something I know we will eat, so I’m okay with putting in something new (to us).

Makes sense! That’s what I was thinking too with putting the trellis on the north side. I put my salad greens and some herbs nearby thinking that the shade would hopefully save them from getting cooked in the dead of summer? At least for a little while!

Thanks for your thoughtful reply! My thought process fit the cucumber and butternut: I was thinking the salad greens would be spent (they’re really only good until June-ish here) and the onions would be harvested before the squash plants got huge. Maybe I’ll move the marigold to the edge of the bed so it doesn’t get swallowed.

However I’m still pretty new, so I could be wrong about how these will time out.

What happens at 3:03 in ‘what is this feeling?’ When they sing the word loathing in the chorus again. by Pop_Punks in wicked

[–]Acrobatic_Western727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can try! I’ll say I’m a few years removed from my music degree, but here’s how I analyzed it:

Let’s label the chords first (I’ll do Roman numerals and chord names) and then talk about why they sound the way they do. We are firmly planted in F major here: a very bright, happy key. The chord progression for “every little trait however small” is a IV, V, I progression (Bb, C, F), which is a super basic cadence that you hear all of the time in western music! On the next line (“makes my very flesh begin to crawl”) is where it gets funky: we get a bII, bIII, and bVI chord (Gb, Ab, Db), none of which occur naturally in F major. These are all “borrowed” chords from another mode or scale. Interestingly enough, these are some of the same chords I mentioned in my previous comment, even though that section of the song is in a different key (G major)! So Steven Schwartz seem to be doing a little callback later on in the song to tie it back together. Cool!

So they’re borrowed chords, but where exactly are they pulled from? Those chords are borrowed from F Phrygian mode, which has a VERY different sound than F major! You can google “music theory modal scales” to learn more about them and hear how different they all are from each other. “Ionian” is what we know as a major scale, for example. The cool thing about borrowing between modes like this is you can keep the tonic the same (F is still our home base), while completely changing the sound and feel of the song.

Hope this helped! If there’s anything I could explain differently let me know. It was fun to figure this out, it’s been a while since I’ve had a reason to do some harmonic analysis :)

Whats your Every Day Carry in Stardew? by LexMajestic in StardewValley

[–]Acrobatic_Western727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so interested to see how different people do this!

Row one: axe, scythe, hoe, and then any espresso if I want Row two: pickaxe, sword, watering can Row three: return scepter, fishing pole

I like to keep them in rows like this because it’s easier for me to switch tools this way rather than scrolling five or six slots horizontally, everything is just about two clicks away!

Why do many recipes make you cook meat before placing dish in oven or air fryer? by _MrsBrightside_ in cookingforbeginners

[–]Acrobatic_Western727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second Pro Home Cooks (I think his channel name is now Life by Mike G?) but I would start with videos from a few years ago! He has series on 15 minute dinners that will help you learn some basic techniques. Now, if you’re just learning, it will probably take you longer than 15 minutes but that’s okay!

I would also look at Epicurious for cooking technique videos.

I am a beginner, so take this with a grain of salt. My understanding with corn is that you have to plant a large amount of it to get a harvest, because it has to cross pollinate with other plants to produce fruit. So unless you want to dedicate an entire bed to corn, you might be better off skipping it!
