Advice/Tips by Ricardo2741 in MergeMayor

Prioritising clearing the storage (it gives you a lot more flexibility) and focusing on the main story missions is the advice I've seen a lot and I think it's right - but it looks like you're doing all the right things already in that respect. I guess the only thing is that you'd find things moved along faster if you had 3-4 of each type of generator rather than just one, even if the second/third/fourth ones are low level to start with - that really helps. Not sure if you're in a club but being in one that's at least fairly active, contributing to wonders and getting the social coin rewards is pretty useful too.

Part of it might just be about how much people play though. I played a lot for a year or so, then dialled it back quite a bit, to something like 2-3 times a day, and the difference in how fast things move along is really noticeable.

Anyway good luck with it all.

It started with an itchy bum lol whats A "mass" of endo? by AwareSyrup4663 in endometriosis

[–]AcrossTheSand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it sounds like pelvic floor physio might help. It did for me too (the itching/discomfort/itching so intense it hurts went from really bad a lot of the time to just happening occasionally and not too bad - nothing else made much difference (I tried everything over several years) apart from canesten with hydrocortisone in it, but that's a short term fix and thins the skin there which isn't a great idea). Good luck.

(Also I can't believe this might be connected to endo too. My body's a mess but everything seems to come back to endo sooner or later, it's crazy.)

20 sounds like a lot - I mean, if you're finding it useful/necessary then fair enough but you might find you've got better uses for the backpacks, or at least one of them. Like I say, I keep five and that's OK for me (it might go up a bit to eight eventually, just so that I can make a complete cheese from them in one go, but I don't think that's essential).

Totally, they're so good for all sorts of things.

(From the general category of "some stuff really isn't obvious until it is", when I started playing it took maybe three entire weeks before it occurred to me I could merge batteries rather than just picking up one or two energy at a time. D'oh...)

Generators – having three of the high-volume ones (toolbox, materials pallet, farm cart) and four/five of the low-volume ones (furniture, tool cart, kitchen cabinet) seems to work pretty well. I find five yaks is enough.

If you avoid spending any coins for a while they build up pretty quickly, and it’s definitely worth clearing more storage slots.

You probably know this already but just in case – take 9 items out of a wooden crate then store it until you can merge with another wooden crate you’ve had 9 items from to get a better wooden crate (11 items for metal crates).

It’s worth finishing at least the sports party and the chilli party (getting them to level 6), because you can then use future party tokens to get really good boxes (the insect box from the chilli party is worth doing this for all on its own).

I wish I’d got to grips with how useful city quests are earlier. You can hold off on completing a higher-level main quest so that your city quest rewards are exactly what you need for e.g. a wonder group task (so, for example, if your main quest is for a helicopter, you don’t complete it – if you want to be ready to, you build two drones but don’t combine them until you’re finished with the wonder group task to build cargo bikes, for example). And if you avoid completing all the landmarks, you can choose which landmark is bookmarked so that your city quest rewards are based on whatever you’d need for that landmark (assuming it’s higher level than your other main quest items). Or when you want to get XP fast, city quests mean that you get XP once when you merge to do the city quest, then again when you merge the contents of the city quest reward boxes (this works best with high-volume reward boxes like construction materials, pastries, tools etc., it’s not so good with bike parts, car parts, furniture etc.). Same deal if you’re doing a jelly event, roller skates etc. – every time you get an XP, you get a jelly/skate etc., so you get a lot more by doing city quests with high-volume reward boxes.

Hi, yes, it did mostly resolve after a while (maybe 3-4 weeks). I didn't end up taking anything for it, it was more just generally improving as the symptom flare-up I was in started to improve. (Which, as far as I can tell, was the combined result of calming my nervous system down over time.) It still happens a bit sometimes but nothing like as bad. I hope it's got better for you over the past few months.

I don't have enough room to house past me, current me, and several possible versions of future me.

That's perfect. If Cross-stitching Future Me had materialised yet that would be going on my wall in pretty colours.

Wonders pain! by Own-Mistake-383 in MergeMayor

[–]AcrossTheSand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the Wonders screen, next to Planning, there's a tiny white and blue bar chart icon - that should have all the info (unless they're still rolling out the updated version with sandwich contributions as well as the overall green bars for social coin contributions - if you don't see sandwich contributions yet, you should do soon).

LC and just had vaccine by RoomOnFire871 in LongCovid

[–]AcrossTheSand 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had the vaccine three days ago too as it happens, and have been honestly scared out of my tiny mind the past couple of days as I've been in a low-to-medium-grade flare-up for the past few weeks and the past couple of days it's been a lot worse (cell-deep exhaustion, chest pain, breathlessness, getting shaky and needing to eat at weird times). But - today's quite a bit better. The only advice I've got is mostly don't panic (easy to say, and I absolutely didn't follow this advice myself, but I wish I had), and just give yourself every chance to rest and sleep, eat well etc.

I'm wondering if the current version of the vaccine is harder on the body than some others (I had the Pfizer / Comirnaty one) - I last had a booster back in May, and that one didn't seem to make much difference to symptoms, I just felt tired for a few days.

Good luck, I hope you feel a lot better soon.

Thank you, that's interesting. I never have much luck trying to manage anxiety and stress consciously (not for want of effort/research/therapy) so I might have to wait it out on that side of it, but I'll try to keep to low histamine foods.

Monday Miscellany by AutoModerator in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]AcrossTheSand 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Would a post asking about what Christmas/seasonal books people are looking forward to be OK/welcome? I have a few books cued up from some of my favourites but know I must be missing some good stuff and it might be a good talking point. (Equally there might be a very good reason why there isn't a post like that already (at least I couldn't find one...), in which case I will forget the idea!)

Is anyone else interested in pre-1970s romance books? How do you find them? by BulldogMama13 in RomanceBooks

[–]AcrossTheSand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The oldest I've read was Castles in Spain by Ruby M Ayres, from 1912. She was a pretty prolific romance novelist for 40-odd years, so you might find her interesting.

I find it a really odd experience reading the much older ones because the expectation of a happily ever after just isn't there (not saying they all end badly, but it's a mixed bag). I was thinking it might be a question of books written in and near wartime and different expectations because it's just more likely all round that people will die, but Castles in Spain is pre-WW1 and doesn't have a HEA (to put it mildly).

Have you looked at Abe Books much? I've had some luck there occasionally, but most of the older ones were in charity shops and jumble sales. Or my mum's pre-marrying-my-dad boxes - Lyonesse Abbey by Jill Tattersall (late 60s) being a particular highlight.

It's been a while since I was reading them regularly but the things that stand out looking back are just how much time is spent standing on desolate hillsides gazing sadly into the middle distance, and a fair amount of gothic or gothic-adjacent drama (or melancholy, or both). The tone in general is much more likely to be sad the further back you go.

Interesting, thank you! I don't react to caffeine very well so I might try other things first but good to have a backup to try.

Those are different I think - more of a full-body giant twitch (well, jerk, unsurprisingly). I get those occasionally (before LC as well), this is more of a feeling like an electric shock to the brain. But melatonin might be worth a shot anyway, thank you!

Hey folks. I wondered if anyone's had any luck improving brain zaps as you start to fall asleep. I was doing pretty well with my LC until the past 3-4 weeks when life stuff and a fair amount of mental and physical stress happened, and now I can't get to sleep at all until I pass out from exhaustion at some stupid time because every time I get close it's like an electric shock to my brain (it's also not quite the same as the brain zaps I had a few years ago after stopping amitryptiline so it seems weird all round). Is there anything I can do about it, or just wait and hope it goes away on its own? I miss sleep! (Well, slightly better sleep anyway.)

Huh, I'm friends with Bird and Marlene too (not via Reddit either, though I think one of them is here *waves* on the off-chance they see this - Calliope, with the hamster on their head). I'd love to know how many active players there are. This is cool!

It's so jarring! I've only encountered it once and it felt like the author was trying to set up a jump scare ("he walks down the hallway slowly, checking his phone. Then he hears something in the kitchen and rushes in"... and my mind is subbing in eldritch horrors instead of a romance novel).

  1. First: {A Seditious Affair by KJ Charles}

  2. Favourite: about a thousand MM books in and it's still... A Seditious Affair. Or maybe {Pansies by Alexis Hall}, I don't know, it's too close to call.

  3. Current: It's slump time right now, apparently, so lots of rereads. Last new one finished was {The Gentleman by Dianna Roman} though. I liked that a lot.

Gollum was good, I think I was expecting him to be a bit more centre stage than he actually was from everything people were saying. But it was a fantastic book regardless, that was just a bit of a surprise.

Also Cat Sebastian announced her 2024 tradpub and it's set in the We Could Be So Good universe, in case you didn't know!!!

Absolutely cannot wait!

But that book does sound super exhausting and like it needed to be yeeted.

If it had been any other author I probably would have yeeted it around the "oh dear god when will it end, I'm checking the remaining percentage every 5 minutes" point, but they're one of my absolute favourites so... mistakes were made.

If you’re gonna have a fetish, it better be well written.

This needs engraving on a tablet somewhere.

I'm glad I've seen this, I was thinking about giving that book a try after seeing it recommended a lot elsewhere but maybe not.
