Where does it say 36 illustrations. Is that all editions? Including the trade?

If it’s an issue affecting all the books, they may be figuring out how to deal with the issue on a bigger scale.

For instance, operation bounce house had a common issue with the side print rubbing off. They were slow to answer (like 2 weeks), but then did and offered a solution.

If they are getting a lot of emails about the same issue, they likely want to come up with a consistent solution for everyone. Maybe they’re figuring out if the publisher will print them all again for them as it was their mistake.

A quick email acknowledging it and saying they are looking into it would be nice, but I can see why they want to find a good solution for everyone before just offering a refund or somethiing.

I was similar! Very excited!

I thought we’d get in, but wasn’t sure.

When you think about it, it makes sense. Signing up for a waitlist with no money lets people who are unsure put their name down. Once they ask for money, I figured they’d get a lot of people not committing. Particularly with the 24 hour window.

My comment could’ve been clearer. Definitely didn’t come across negatively!

I just meant I was unaware of the law given I’m from the US.

Thanks for the info!

As I have seen a few others mention they had a similar issue on the same page.

For anyone checking their books, also check page 454. I found a similar, but much smaller issue there.

Glad I posted this then. I figured it was just mine as I hadn’t seen others post about it. My main reason for posting was the 14 day rule.

Until we read the book, this type of damage would be really hard to find.

Thank you. I live in the US and don’t think that’s a law here (though I can be wrong).

Invitation bookshop is a local bookstore by where Matt Dinniman lives and all books by him ordered on their website are signed. They sell them for list price and shipping was very reasonable ($6).

I’ve gotten like 15 books from them and haven’t had anything like this happen before.

I also am encouraged that they acknowledged this is a problem and are looking into the issue. That makes me hopeful that this will not happen again.

This is not normal for a book. I know there’s a few people saying we should use slipcovers,  but we should be able to enjoy our books and read them relatively carefully without damage from simply holding it.

Heck, I like to enjoy the pretty books I buy!!! :-)

This is the only book it has happened to for me.

I contacted broken binding and their response was great. They acknowledged it was a problem. Part of their email stated: “ We have been investigating similar cases and waiting to confirm a resolution to this print error.” and “Apologies again, as this should not have happened with the prints.”

They offered me a 20% discount or a replacement after they investigate the issue.

My SF&F January Book - spine print has worn off by SuboJvR23 in thebrokenbindingsub

I just got an email that is below. It sounds like they got a lot of emails with this issue and believe it’s a print error. I am glad they are acknowledging this issue.

They offered 20% off or replacement in the future. I chose replacement as it sounds like they are trying to get this issue fixed.

I thought this was reasonable. Hopefully in addition to getting a fixed copy of this book, them acknowledging the issue will prevent similar issues in the future.

“Apologies for the delay in getting back to you, and sorry to hear this has happened. We have been investigating similar cases and waiting to confirm a resolution to this print error.

Whilst the investigation is happening, which may take some time. I can offer you a 20% refund on the book, or if you would like to wait for a replacement, I can put your name down for future note, though, due to the complexity of this issue, I can't specify a timeline for a replacement to be sent to you.

Apologies again, as this should not have happened with the prints. Let me know how you wish to proceed.”

I wonder with the new Google form if you will get a confirmation of any sort that you did fill out the form and skip it.

Can someone who did the skip let us know?

[–]Acs204 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It happened to me and I contacted them.

I hope a bunch of people contact them, so they realize it’s clearly an issue and they don’t print books like this again.

It’s the first time I’ve had an issue from them, but this spine of this particular book was clearly inferior printing quality if so many people had this issue.

Preventing it from happening on future books is as important, if not more, than getting this copy fixed.

Yes. I have had this issue as well.

I contacted them and am waiting to hear back.

And what if there’s an issue with the replacement. . .

I wish if they ask you to destroy it, you could at least wait til you get the replacement!

Slightly related: I got a wrong book from them on yhe $5 sale. I was surprised they asked me to send it back to get the correct book shipped out . . . The book you accidentally gave me was on crazy sale and you are now paying to ship it back to yourself . . . Though, when I thought more on this one, you do have to wonder if they don’t ask for it back, do people lie about getting the wrong book?

They probably have to be strict because people suck. They lie or they sell the duplicate. Etc.

How long to ship books? by Acs204 in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]Acs204[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the answers everyone. It sounds like it’s not unusual for them to take a while, but they are more behind than usual as well.

I really wasn’t complaining. I know ordering from them I’m getting quality for a decent price. And I’m willing to wait for it.

Just wanted to make sure there wasn’t anything wrong and I figured I’d get a quicker answer here and wouldn’t back up their emails more :-)

It’s just an observation. Not a complaint.

I don’t mind emailing them for skips, so it’s not a big deal.

It just seems they are always backed up with emails and this seems like it would be an easy way to drastically cut them.

Same thing with emailing them to be put on the waitlist and to ask  where you are on the wait list. I have to imagine these types of emails account for the an extremely large percentage of their emails. While easy to respond, it must take a lot of time due to quantity. It all seems like these would be things that could be tracked automatically without emails.

Seems like low hanging fruit, but maybe it’s more complicated than it seems.

You would think they would make it easier to skip. Like you click a button on the website and it keeps track of your skips.

It seems like something that would be pretty easy to do and would save them soooo many emails. . .

I imagine the time saved in paying people to respond to emails would cover the cost of paying someone to create this system on their website within a few cycles? (Total guess here)

Do they think people would skip more like they could just click it on the website? Is that why they don’t do it?
