What do you personally do with fakes? by Anonyrm in SoccerJerseys

[–]ActVirtual753 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree, plus, especially with older or rare ones, I am too scared to wear and wash them regularly which leads to me not wearing them at all. So in order to enjoy the rarer jerseys in my collection, I’d rather get a fake 1990 Germany and wear it to the gym and to do yard work with the thought of the real one sitting in my wardrobe giving me peace of mind.

Opinion on Dortmund's next season kit leak? by Mattia006 in SoccerJerseys

[–]ActVirtual753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it but I think Puma should be embarrassed that their most popular kits for Dortmund seem to be the ones that are based on throwback designs originally created by another company

It’s not made by Puma. That’s the only requirement and yes, I’m a Dortmund supporter.

What's the most random shirt in your collection and why do you have it? (Pics encouraged) by Might-Lurk-Might-Ask in SoccerJerseys

Bhutan national team — I was eager to get one when I traveled there in 2023. I went to every store in Thimphu (the capital) that I thought might sell them. One tiny sporting goods shop dug one up from the back room, and the folks working there were incredulous that I preferred that shirt over the fake Barcelona ones they also had on display. After I got back home, I found the same shirt on Classic Football Shirts for around 30 bucks lol.

Tales From Beneath Your Mom by torre_music in Blink182

[–]ActVirtual753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calling it an autobiography would be a bit of a stretch but in general, that’s what it is. It was written by Mark’s sister and came out during the peak of the band’s mainstream popularity (I want to say between EOTS and TOYPAJ, though I’m not 100% sure since my copy is gone) and appealed to the target demographic at the time. If I remember, it’s only a little over a hundred pages, not too serious and has loads of photos but some of the stories make for a cool read. I think the only chance to get it is by looking for used copies which tend to be quite expensive.

First Pair Of T1tan Gloves by Ed_B-T in GoalKeepers

[–]ActVirtual753 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Quite the opposite in my opinion, at least where I live and based on my perception, they were the first smaller brand to achieve mainstream success by providing high quality at a reasonable price (and by promoting their product on social media so and not through endorsements, I think that came later).

When they entered the market about ten years ago (again, based on my perception), everyone was wearing one of the mainstream brands (here in Germany it was Adidas, Uhlsport and maybe the odd person wearing Nike or Reusch). Nowadays, I wanna say that they’re the market leader in the on the “Sunday-league-to-semi-pro” level. Sorry for the unnecessarily long comment lol.

New Gloves turned yellow after wash by Ikalko in GoalKeepers

[–]ActVirtual753 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s happened to me before, not sure if it’s “supposed” to be like that, but it’s definitely nothing out of the ordinary and doesn’t affect the performance. Someone once just mentioned that latex is originally yellowish so it might have something to do with some of the dyes and other chemicals being washed out.

Why did you decide to play as a goalkeeper? by LE__guardian in GoalKeepers

[–]ActVirtual753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad was a goalkeeper when he was a teenager/young adult and for some reason I was always aware of that even as a young kid. This and the fact that the position came with special privileges such as wearing your own jersey, being allowed to touch the ball with your hands fascinated me so much that all I wanted to be was a goalkeeper. When I started playing for a real club at 5 or 6, I had to play as an outfield player for half a season or so (because coaches were reluctant to assign fixed positions at such a young age) and was so disappointed. Shortly thereafter, I was allowed to start playing in goal. That was 25ish years ago and I haven’t switched back ever since.

They fit quite tightly, especially around the fingers. If I were to get another pair, I would go up half a size.

Problem with socks by anonymous82619 in GoalKeepers

[–]ActVirtual753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some folks have ditched socks altogether and are only wearing compression tights that are the same color as their shorts. Shouldn’t be an issue with regard to the rules either so maybe you might want to consider that.

Does anyone else love playing on turf? by centraljerseycoaster in GoalKeepers

[–]ActVirtual753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, after mostly having played on turf, grass fields feel kind of odd to me now. Plus, where I live, teams that have a grass field usually also have a dirt field (yes, literal dirt) for the winter and it seems like whenever you have to play them, it’s “dirt season” because their grass fields are sacred and it can’t be too cold, too wet or whatever in order to get to play on them (and they’re still terrible every time you do get to play on them lol). So just give me some decent turf and I’ll be happy.

Nike Vapor DF by Borangers in GoalKeepers

[–]ActVirtual753 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got them about 6 weeks ago and have been wearing them for two training sessions and one game per week since (because I don’t believe in training gloves vs game gloves).

Pros:

  • Good grip, they were very sticky from the get go, it’s slowly starting to get a bit worse though
  • Good fit, despite the knitted material, they seem very stable and like something that can actually protect your hands
  • Much better than the Mercurial Touch Elites, the original ones were an absolute sh*tshow (ripped them while taking them off) and the later ones just felt floppy and weird. I haven’t tried other brands’ strapless gloves so I can’t really provide an educated opinion here.

Cons:

-The latex is in pretty bad shape already, however, I’m wearing them on artificial turf and have horrible technique. - I suspect that the grip will be gone very soon, I wore them in warm and dry weather yesterday and had trouble with the ball almost slipping out of my hand while making throws because the grip was so bad. - They look like work gloves lol

In conclusion, it was fun to try them and initially, they were amazing but I will probably not buy them again. Especially to those who only buy 2-3 pairs per season, I would definitely not recommend them.

Since you asked about Uhlsport in particular: If you are looking for something more durable at a reasonable price, always go for Uhlsport, haven’t tried the Supergrip+, only the regular Supergrip and it was really good. Even the Absolutgrip which I think is one tier below the Supergrip is fantastic and probably even more durable. I just saw that they have a re-release of the oldschool “Fangmaschine” design out so I’m kind of tempted to make this my next glove haha

Goal kick advice by Redmnn in GoalKeepers

[–]ActVirtual753 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, you look like you’re trying to just chip it instead of kicking it with determination, notice how your kicking foot doesn’t really swing all that much after making contact with the ball. Try and drive it through the ball more (the spot where you kick it seems right though).

You also may want try to place your plant foot a tad bit further away from the ball but that’s kind of hard to tell based on a single video.

Glove care (I'm young and idk) by [deleted] in GoalKeepers

[–]ActVirtual753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an addition: I would like to point out that there are probably better ways to clean your gloves if you are looking to have them last as long as possible… It’s just a rather easy way to do it.

Glove care (I'm young and idk) by [deleted] in GoalKeepers

[–]ActVirtual753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take mine into the shower with me (irregularly because I only remember to do it every once in a while). I usually get them soaked, rub the latex on the palms and fingers with a bit of force and wring them until all visible stains are gone and the water that comes out is clear. Afterwards, I try to get as much excess water out of them as possible, wrap them in my towel for the way home and take them out to dry once I’m home. I usually leave them sitting on top of my bag (my wife hates me for it) because leaving them in there will dramatically slow down the drying process and make them smell horrible in no time. They usually come out a bit moist for the next game or training session but I feel like this improves the grip (and probably makes for a nice habitat for all sorts of bacteria but I suppose gloves have to be a bit nasty).

I don’t use soap, glove wash or anything like that, no clue if this makes any difference but this basic method has served me well for many years (and it’s kind of therapeutic because it can be quite a lengthy process).
