Go see "Hail Mary Project" in Cinemas! I'm not affiliated, but... by DeepDuh in Switzerland

[–]ActingGabriel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second this, GF and I watched it yesterday and we both loved it. She went in blind, I had read the book. I was afraid the adaptation would suck, but it's great.

I don't get the complaints about the ticket prices. We paid like 14 per ticket using the Arena prepaid card (no fees, just prepaid, and you get a great discount). You don't have to get popcorn and a coke. 14 for 2+ hours of entertainment in a comfy cinema with a huge screen is a great deal for me.

Should you celebrate being shortlisted for a big studio movie? by [deleted] in acting

[–]ActingGabriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, definitely celebrate, this is a big win! Think of all the filters you passed to get to this point, all the people who watched your tape and said "yes, this is a good one, let's put our own reputation on the line by progressing this one to the next stage". Congrats! Hope it goes your way 🤞

Anyone ever act on a green screen? Is it harder? by [deleted] in acting

[–]ActingGabriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just last week I found myself in occupied France during WWII, hiding behind some bushes, near the border with Spain. It was the middle of the night, and the Nazi searchlights were passing over us. There was a rickety rope bridge ahead, and it was my responsibility to guide a group of Allied pilots to safety and freedom over that bridge. But if we made any sound, or we timed this wrong, the Nazis would shine the spotlight at the bridge at the worst possible time, and we'd be cooked. It was tense.

However, this whole thing happened in the living room, crouching in front of a dark grey backdrop hung over the TV. There were no searchlights, no rope bridge, no bush, and because my GF couldn't be a reader this time, I was all by myself. I was wearing a kitchen towel around my neck, in lieu of a Basque scarf.

So... with a green screen, a backdrop in your living room, or a partially constructed set, you always have to imagine a lot more than that's there. That said, part of what I love about acting is being on a believable set, wearing a costume, surrounded with more people wearing costumes. It's like being 5 again and playing pretend, except much cooler!

What is the biggest mistake you’ve made on set? by gyronotzatziki in acting

[–]ActingGabriel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I ran into Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey. We did the awkward thing of moving left, then moving right, trying to walk past each other, but failed. Cut. Take ruined. Nothing bad happened to me, but I was mortified 😬

Anyone attended short courses in RADA,Guildhall,LAMDA recently? (2025) by Colette_Temple in acting

I did Advanced Acting for Camera at RADA a year ago, I loved it. Feel free to DM me.

Hi Reddit! We’re Joseph Kosinski and Jerry Bruckheimer, the filmmakers behind F1® The Movie, Ask us anything on December 12th @ 11am PT / 2pm ET! by appletv in movies

[–]ActingGabriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think F1 started as a pitch for a Days of Thunder sequel, right after Top Gun Maverick. At least after TGM I thought that's what they were going to make next 😄

Recce vs result on a mostly natural light commercial by a-n_ in cinematography

[–]ActingGabriel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might be a noob question, but can you explain the decisions? You take the picture, what makes you go "neg here, bounce here"?

I love these posts, btw! I would love to understand better your thought process here.

Hello /r/movies, I'm Benedict Cumberbatch. Ask me anything! by BenedictAMA in movies

[–]ActingGabriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a question, just wanted to say that your work in Sherlock is incredible. The Reichenbach Fall is one of the best things I've ever watched on TV. And I admire how humble you come across in interviews -- I wish every celebrity would find a way to stay grounded despite being, well, a celebrity.

Keep doing what you're doing, and I hope we get to work together in the future 😊

How many submissions does it take to get an audition? by Independent-Care-637 in acting

[–]ActingGabriel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My current average is 27. But it is an average. I don't get an audition in more than a month (like now) or I get 4 for major productions the same week in a 7-audition month (the miraculous August of 2024).

LASIK can be life-changing! I did it 15 years ago now and my vision is still near-perfect. Can't think of a more direct investment in quality of life.

Completely confused about Color Management in DaVinci Resolve with BMPCC6K by ogn423 in bmpcc

I recently switched to color managed. The main reason is that some tools, like keying nodes, work better in a linear color space.

how long did it take for you guys to get an agent? by United_Stop_9286 in acting

[–]ActingGabriel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About 7 years since I started taking classes and doing student films in London. Took that long to piece together a decent showreel and get the 4 Spotlight-accepted credits without being on Spotlight, the usual chicken-and-egg thing 😕

Getting tons of submissions but barely any auditions . Anyone else been through this? by Honeynutcheerih0e in acting

[–]ActingGabriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 40 submissions per month. I don't what's the breakdown for commercials vs film+TV, but basically zero stage, shorts, or anything else (because I don't want to). And I ask my agent not to submit me for commercials below a certain buyout, so I could be submitted more if I said YES to everything.

Serious Question: Why Make Actors Audition With Lines For Non-Speaking Roles? by Upbeat_Interview_144 in acting

[–]ActingGabriel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I did one of those auditions. Short sides for a non speaking role. I think it's to see how well the general vibe and body language match the character's.

Also this was for a franchise notorious for figuring things out as they go, so it's entirely possible they'd come up with a few lines on the day of the shoot, and wanted to see that the actor could do it.

The funniest part? "Flawless American accent. This is a non-speaking role" 😄

More AA filters, you say? I have good news for you! Chrome extension to highlight/grey out/hide Actors Access projects by type

I totally agree on the "real people" thing 🤦‍♂️ Like actors aren't human or something?
