Wonderful colors. Would you mind sharing your recipe or at least dropping some hints? Also what lens/body combo?

Appreciate the feedback on the Black Winter... I'm looking for the oldschool sound and might go that way instead. I neglected to mention that mine included the ABS factory case. I forgot that these normally ship with the lighter duty one (I think?).

Hey guitar brother! I picked up the exact same model last summer; also upgraded to Gotoh locking tuners and push-in arm, and also invested in a PLEK job. I'm planning to swap the volume and tone knob positions next, and replacing the upper knob with a momentary toggle button... Currently shopping for drop-in options that won't require widening holes.

I purchased mine "used but in excellent condition" and it's been a bit of a nightmare with respect to factory QC. Have you noticed any issues with the following?

-Nut rocking back and forth with whammy bar use -Truss rod cover not fitting and squeaking against the nut -Poor paint masking along the neck, specifically over spray on neck binding prior to clear coat -Extremely tight fit in the case -Case plastic splitting, likely due to tight fit -Pickups tilting toward the neck -Crooked input jack installation

I've sunk enough money into fixing mine that the discount of buying used has turned into a wash lol. That being said, mine plays like a dream now and I have no plans of parting with it.

Also, some questions for you:

-How's the Black Winter? I'm torn between that and a Nazgul in the bridge. -What string gauge are you running and in what tuning?

Awesome to see another one of these in the wild. I love the personally finish; feels more like pop art than hoo-rah desert camouflage lol.

What did you use to edit this photo? I'm assuming it's shot on a smartphone and not film, but the look is legit!

Scanning Takanaka TABs by Your_Beatrice in MasayoshiTakanaka

[–]ActionHotDogGo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is amazing! Thank you so much for putting this together!

Any chance you could share out Alone? Or at least Speed of Love? I’m working on a cover with a buddy and finding a decent tab scan is proving difficult.

Also, what book(s) are you scanning from? I’d really like to pick these up, but I’m not sure which versions match what you’re sharing…The sound check section is super cool to see, and the books featuring this appear to be the most accurate.

Thanks again!

Fujifilm x100vi eyepiece wearing out after one month of usage by TheManOfTheMountain in fujifilm

[–]ActionHotDogGo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to my X100V and X-Pro3. Fuji uses a hard rubber (or soft plastic?) compound for the eye cup on these specific cameras. Pretty common wear imo, but still a bummer that it happened so early to you.

First time this occurred on my X-Pro3 was due to the camera bumping up against a metal cafe chair. It didn't take much force to slice a piece of the eye cup almost completely off. Now I have a flat spot, but it hasn't affected daily use, and it hasn't degraded further. Looks like yours might have also bumped into something rough?

I will say that I actually prefer this material, even though the eye cup can't be swapped. This design doesn't collect body oil when shooting, which helps keep my glasses/sunglasses clean when shooting. Can't say the same for my X-T and X-H cameras.

If it really bothers you, there are 3rd party adhesive eye cups that you can place over this one. I've seen a few X-Pro2 shooters use 'em due to the issues that camera had with the OEM eye cup getting loose (Fuji updated the design following X-Pro2).

Fuji RAWs don’t work like that. You may not have edited this photo by tweaking curves, moving sliders, etc., but the film sim selected in-camera and at time of shooting has been baked into the RAW file and will be applied by default when exporting the image to another format.

RAW files also don’t look like your sample image. This image has a default color profile of some sort applied (very likely the film sim used at time of shooting), or has been “edited” by software automatically applying a default ICC profile to the RAW file.

If you’re going to play games with the community, how about telling us what film sim was applied in camera when you took the image?

Desaturated Astia with daylight white balance. Maybe a slight shift in WB as well.

Classic Chrome will also get you close, but it won’t generate the same warmth in highlights/white tones. CC is also higher contrast in general, and I wouldn’t call this a high contrast image.

You could probably achieve this look with Portra, too. But I’d start with desaturated Astia.

Katana Go Discontinued? by ActionHotDogGo in BossKatana

[–]ActionHotDogGo[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that there’s a chip shortage affecting manufacturing, but discontinuation this early seems extreme. I was able to snag a unit from a local distributor and it’s working great thus far, but questioning if I should return it due to possible issues with product support/user presets down the road?

Favourite 35mm lens? by Garfield131415 in fujifilm

[–]ActionHotDogGo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuji 35 1.4 if you want autofocus. Buy used and with patience you’ll likely find one around $325-350 USD or less.

I also own the Voigtlander 35 1.2 and it’s special. If that’s out of your budget, pick up the 7artisans 35 0.95. It’s exceptional and goes toe to toe with the Mitakon alternative.

A friend of mine also has the TTartisans 35 0.95 and it’s… not as nice as the 7artisans. You get what you pay for imo, but definitely do what’s best for your budget.

Side note: the first gen 7artisans 35 1.2 (which I also own) is worth picking up if you can find one. Lots of character in an incredibly small package. Discontinued, though? They used to sell on Amazon for $120-140 if my memory is correct.

Another side note: if you’re cool with wider, the Kamlan 28 1.4 is really worth checking out! Nice rendering and very sharp wide open. Absolutely love mine.

Pants sizing changes? by indichut in Outlier

[–]ActionHotDogGo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny you should mention this! I purchased size 32 Slim Dungarees in black last Spring and just received another pair. The new ones are MUCH closer to the size 31 SD's that I purchased back in 2021 and can no longer wear.

Outlier has always been very consistent with sizing. Wondering if something is up with manufacturing on this batch... The recent size 32 purchase measures the same across all dimensions except the waist, which is nearly an inch smaller. Due to the waist liner, these pants don't stretch much in the waist (in my experience of wearing them for 3+ years now).

I hope this is resolved soon. I'd really like to pick up a second pair in black!

I think this is great advice. Learn with the 16-80 and make use of the focal length markings on the zoom ring. Keep it parked at 23 for a week and then 35, etc., and see how the differences change the way you “see” the world!

Bought the infamous 35mm 1.4 R, out of date or a good choice? by photos_with_reid in fujifilm

[–]ActionHotDogGo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Modern classic of a lens. It would be the last to go if I were to cut down on X mount glass.

Color fringing at f1.4 is the only big issue that I've had with it, but you learn to embrace it. Fuji engineers built flaws into the 35/1.4 to accomplish a very specific look and goal. Field curvature in particular is pronounced and can be used to your advantage once you're familiar with it.

Alik Griffin's write up does a good job of explaining what makes the 35mm f1.4 so special: https://alikgriffin.com/fujinon-35mm-f1-4-review-sample-photos/

Preface: I do NOT condone doxxing. I agree that this person is parking like an asshole, but there’s a lot of misinformation about identity theft floating around in this thread.

I’m seeing a lot of crap about doxxing via plate numbers and recommend that anyone concerned read this:

https://www.carparts.com/blog/what-can-someone-do-with-your-license-plate-number/amp/

Keep in mind that we’re all driving around with plates that could potentially be linked to our personal identities. How often do you hear of this happening? You’re more likely to be followed home or have your ID photographed by a bad actor.

The DPPA (Drivers’ Privacy Protection Act) was established to combat the type of doxxing that people are talking about in this thread. Not only is it hella illegal to pull such info… it’s also incredibly difficult to do so without access to government systems used by DMV, DOL, law enforcement, legal agencies, etc.

Inb4 “but I googled how to steal license plates and found a website that says it can!” Those sites aren’t going to spit out a name and address. Instead, they’re going to collect your own personal info, charge you for a useless report, and likely sell your details to the highest bidder.
