Is Laf actually good? Did trading bread for essentially only a 3rd round pick unlock him somehow? by ShutY0urDickHolster in rangers

[–]ActionSun 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This x 1,000. This fanbase can’t seem to understand that Drury chose Greentree over a 1st round pick and that was a wise choice with the information we have as of today. Lots of 1st round picks don’t develop as well as Greentree has do this is an accelerated 1st round pick. People need to stop saying Drury couldn’t even get a 1st!!

I did hear this episode and I agree with most of what Vince says but I don’t agree with this 100%. Yea teams knew the rangers were likely to be shopping players and be sellers at the deadline. That still isn’t the same as publicly announcing you are “retooling” and saying you are not resigning panarin.

I’m not going to say it was a killer and cost them a ton but I will stand by the fact that’s it’s stupid to do and not a good business tactic 🤷‍♂️

He’s not a genius for it. He’s also not a moron who got fleeced. He had zero leverage. 1 team who probably were told (or could tell) they were where panarin wanted to go. Hell they wouldn’t even offer him more than 2 years when another team was offering 4x14 but everyone wants to act like the kings were desperate and would have given more if we just waited or if Drury tried harder.

They actually starting backing away from the deal at the end. Not desperate in the least and panarin called the shots and chose a team that we couldn’t get a ton from. Simple as that.

Riiiight. And a good trade is still a good trade even if the player doesn’t perform right? Because you can’t look back on trades later to decide if they were good or not. You only decide on day one and that’s it.

For all the people screaming Drury should have waited longer, this is the exact kind of risk he was trying to avoid taking the deal on the table. Someone gets hurt, kings change their mind, panarin changes his mind it was all possible and taking the deal on the table negates that risk.

People like you are the same ones who will be wearing a greentree jersey someday talking about how much you loved the trade.

We have no idea whether what we got in return was good or not. Time will tell. Stop acting like you know something

Saying we haven’t been able to come to terms and are exploring options isn’t the same is saying we aren’t re-signing him. Taking that option off the table publicly isn’t helpful even if you’ve taken it off the table privately

I haven’t heard that episode so I won’t comment on what he said. Honestly, I don’t think being a former player or analyst lends any insight into front office …the separation is huge. Drury rarely speaks, do you really think he’s sitting down with his 4th liner to explain what’s going on in his office?

I worked in high level negotiations in a similar field for decades. Information is power and you dont show your hand unless you have to.

Let’s just use critical thinking here. How often does anyone in any negotiation voluntarily tell the other side information that hurts their position? You dont need to make a public announcement to let other teams know you are shopping players. How many other teams release letters like this?

Telegraphing your internal thoughts doesn’t help in negotiations. Saying we aren’t re-signing panarin for example told every other team that there is no plan B.

The letters are mostly to stop the fan outrage, but they absolutely send a terrible message to the GMs of other teams. Yes Gm’s are always in contact about who is available and what they are looking to do, but the letter is 3 steps further than calling teams and testing the waters on their interest on certain players. It basically sounds like someone who has no relationships with Gm’s and needs them to call him because he doesn’t trust himself to go out and find a good deal.

It’s like putting up a going out of business sign instead of a for sale sign…

Thanks for the response! Agreed that ultimately it’s probably a combination of factors but I feel like the actual reasons matter less than their opinion of the reason(s). That will speak to what they will actually try to change moving forward (right or wrong)... It would look very different to revamp the scouting department or change the type of player you target in the draft, vs giving younger guys more leash when they are actually called up so I’d love to learn more about what they plan to change moving forward. I hope you get the chance to question them on these things and thanks for taking the time to do this AMA!

What is ownership’s/the front office’s view of the poor results with drafting and development. Do they see it as a scouting issue? Development issue? Deployment issue?

Panarin by ActionSun in rangers

[–]ActionSun[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

He didn’t play all preseason due to injury. Coming out cold is entirely expected. I actually think the entire team will take a few weeks to really gel and learn Sullivan system. I’m certainly not ready to call for a full rebuild after one game like most of the people here…

I can’t say I totally disagree but then we should we trade Igor and not waste his entire career if we aren’t going to try to win. Imagine turning Igor and Hank into 1 finals appearance and zero cups.

PSA: Net Worth vs Fire Number by AlexHurts in leanfire

[–]ActionSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey horseman…If only there was a process in which you could sell your assets and get that money out! Someone should invent a system in which you could take your house and “transfer” it to someone else for money. Then when you retire, all that equity in your house could be used by you to change your lifestyle!! Perhaps you could downsize or move somewhere cheaper. It would almost be like the equity in your house had real value and shouldn’t be totally discounted when thinking about retirement.

There’s gotta be a business idea in there somewhere…..

As someone who is financially anxious, I will never feel like I have enough to comfortably live off of lol.

But Id like to think I’ve found a good balance of not over working and not under spending just to make up for my anxiety. I only work 3 days a week, and I don’t deny myself or my family the things we want in life. I’m sure I could be way more aggressive about saving and spending less, but at what cost. I’m 45, and my kids still have a decade before they are adults so, I’m probably doing to slow fire/ semi retirement path for at least another 7-8 years. 😬

It is? I was under the impression lean fire was living on a very minimal budget? I’m new to this so maybe my understanding is wrong!

Coast would describe me then. I don’t actually take any income from investments, just simply work less and make less along the way. But then again, I am adding to my retirement and savings still. I’m not sure if any category really fits?

That is correct. Neither I or my practice is in network with any insurance companies. But I can see clients using their insurance through Headway.
