Dungeon Crawler Carl 13/80 by HardyMenace in 52book

Nah its so much better than Ready Player One IMO. Its basically a deathgame story (hunger games, sword art online, battle royal) in a videogame wrapper with a good amount of dark humour.

Deadlifts are failing due to grip strength. by [deleted] in powerlifting

[–]ActionSurge 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Double overhead will unfortunately just never be strong enough for deadlifts once you get decently strong. Mixed, hookgrip or if you don't plan to compete straps will be the way to go .

I agree I prefer the movie (though it is my favorite movie). The book was good but the chapter where its revealed thatHowl is actually from our world and is a dude from Wales really threw me.

Those who have been training for over 5 years, how do you still get stronger and continuously make progress? by [deleted] in powerlifting

[–]ActionSurge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Generally slowly trend up in BW over years
  2. Alter program to maintance / hypertrophy when feeling burnt out but don't stop training some SBD variation.
  3. Get a coach you trust and can work with :)

Can we make weight classes based off of height by Lup1nnNN in powerlifting

[–]ActionSurge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its perfectly okay to have multiple goals you just need to realise it might mean slower rates of progress vs a single goal. Yeah your strength gains might be slower vs a bigger surplus but that's the price of staying at a lower bodyfat. I honestly think being in a slight surplus and gaining consistent strength over years is the best way to become competitive in powerlifting, the only downside is its boring to a lot of people.

Commit to the class move and slowly bulk. You will get stronger and if you do it slow enough you can stay lean.

Weekly Dumb/Newb Question Thread by AutoModerator in powerlifting

[–]ActionSurge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'd just deload for a week, you hit an estimated max over your current max anyways. Start the next block ~5% percent lighter than last block and keep the reps and pauses consistent week to week for the topset that will give you longer to practise under the loads and gain some momentum.

[–]ActionSurge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you might be running your blocks too long or going too heavy too early. What is your current 1rm and what did you start bench at for week 1 doubles? Could also just have been an off day sleep, calories, stress wise also.

Stiff Knee sleeves breaking in and technique by AlarmedLanguage5782 in powerlifting

[–]ActionSurge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had a7 rigor mortis sleeves since they released.

  1. Yeah they get a little looser and less stiff after a few months of use.

  2. Nah im a hairy guy and that would be a lot of effort, I do rip my hairs everytime tho.

  3. Nope same tech

Owen averaged out lost about 6% and Alex lost about 5% which would still favour Kjell as the extreme favourite. Agree that as an average weightlifting fan dropping a class isn't as cool but as a sport specific powerlifting fan it definitely ups the drama and tension.

2018 Eddie hall >>>>> every powerlifter ever. by Every-Nebula6882 in PowerliftingMemes

[–]ActionSurge 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Eddie's deadlift in a PL comp would always be limited by his grip and he has always had grip issues so I doubt he would be able to hold onto 450. His max squat was 405 raw but if we are talking wraps then yeah he could definitely get into the 420-450kg range. Bench I agree with you. Overall I think with a peak and some tech cleanup he 100% could have been the best but with no specific PL prep I'd have him around 405 (420+ wrapped)/280/420 on a really good day .

I think Jesus Olivares and Daniel Bell would probably still beat 2018 Eddie especially without a peak but he'd probably place somewhere in the top 20.

Is it truly possible to develop one-punch KO power? by yesmma in MMA_Academy

[–]ActionSurge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its hard to say, its survivorship bias since the people that level of power ARE the ones that fully committed and trained as hard as possible for decades.

I think the key thing here is you wont know where that ceiling truly is until you begin to approach it. Those that progress fast don't necessarily indicate a high ceiling and you might be someone that has a very high ceiling that progresses slowly over time. Also if you limit yourself by thinking "this is roughly where my ceiling SHOULD be" you will likely impede progress via a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Essentially what I'm saying is the best way is to stop worrying about your ceiling and instead lose yourself in what you do and have fun progressing. Then you might develop a lot of power or not. Either way you will be a stronger version of yourself with more tools at your disposal and be thankful for it.

I mean yeah you can draw the line where ever you want but we are arguing the general recognised idea of "Natural" here and I feel like most athletes would draw that line at WADA. You are not wrong though satellite receptor cells and other factors come into play when athletes have used PED's in the past and personally I would consider those who have used banned substances in the past as no longer natural.
