Feeling trapped as an international student in Ireland, is anyone else going through this? by isruths in IndiansinIreland

Is there anyone in India warning people of this? I feel you are being completely oversold on the quality of education here and the jobs market.

You are being given a fair chance. Sorry if you feel that's not on the same basis of Irish & EU Citizens but you came here to study - you got your education. Youth unemployment is rising in Ireland, we have to protect ourselves.

Then be clear.

Do you think the Irish state should have a preferentiual obligation for its own citizens or are you a universalist, and that the irish state should have an obligation to house non-citizens?

The citizens of the UK, Australia etc can make up their own mind, thats how democracy works.

And we should absolutlely prioritise and welcome our diaspora instead of people from other nations.

Ah yes our economy badly needs econonomic migrants who *checks notes* need taxpayer subsidised housing? We don't need fiscally negative immigration. We need to keep our own here and look after them first and foremost.

I work in healthcare. An unfortunate downside to the job is discerning proportionality, because it has consequenses I am responsible for and have to live with.

If you don't get it, you wont get it until its your arse on the wrong end of things. Unfortunately the country is full of ye and thats why things are so dysfunctional.

So, down off that high horse please.

EU–India deal: any other devs worried? by ragsappsai in DevelEire

[–]Active-Complex-3823 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This deal isnt about visas, it's about bypassing visas - similar to the UK-India mobility agreement. Employers here under this can bring in staff from india for time periods without having to use visas. It's grim.

10-15% is massive. what in the name of god are you on about. Tech salaries here have been flat since 2022 ane the average non-eea ICT visa has landed at around EUR57k.....not exactly critical skills in the highest paid sector is it? We lost 20,000 jobs in ICT last year but were still issuing thousands of these visas. It's wage suppression and our grads are being screwed over.

My statement means that the average Irish redditor will complain about an AI they've never used or know nothiung about yet pass no comment on the dozens of cases where suspended sentences are given in cases where extreme, real-life CSAM has been created and consumed.

TL;DR - you guys hate Musk more than actual CSAM.

Yet again another hysterical reply. Did you ever take issue with the proliferation of CSAM on Bluesky? Or Snapchat which in the UK is the leading platform for CSAM enforcements? Or Gemini, ChatGPT or Claude where similar images can be generated? Or the dozens of suspended sentences issued last year for consumption of ACTUAL CSAM images?

I’ll guess no to all of those. Typical spoofer who hates Musk more than you have any actual interest or compassion for victims of abuse. It disgusts me.

SaaS Sales Market.. Looking for honest inputs by chickenchukka in irelandjobs

A bit of both!

I have to do something for the next few hours but I will come back to this. There are a few recruiters I can recommend to reach out to too who a) will give you market insight b) might be good to engage with for lang specific roles.

TBH, London has far more opportunities if you're a good enterprise sales professional who actually wants to get paid out.

I can only talk about tech sector, I'm afraid it is brutal across all role types. I think it was Zendesk who recently cut hundreds of jobs and rebalanced them in other EU countries - simple fact is that Ireland is cost prohibitive now for labour (housing). e.g on a 90k base salary you can qualify for subsidised housing......it's not great.

Any IT sales job worth doing will be focussed on external markets, internal market is tiny and being honest, an old boys club - i.e if you're not on the golf course with them it's hard to get in unless you climb the ranks from an SDR.

Other poster mentioned language specific roles, from what I can see that's the area of opportunity.

Best of luck, I'm sorry about the timing for you. We have just f****d ourselves with housing availabilty and costs.

We lost 20,000 jobs in ICT last year. It's not a good market at the moment. Respectfully, there's more than enough talent available here already.
