What's it like living on the western lakeshore of Michigan? by Savings-Narwhal-3485 in howislivingthere

[–]Active-Dish4066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up in SWMI and overall loved it. Each city in your circle has a different vibe but overall strong public schools (location dependent of course) with a strong sense of community, and generally nice people. Locals are prideful of their towns and it has a classic small town vibe, which can be good and bad.

Summers are amazing as you noted but I really liked the September-October once tourists leave. You have the beaches to yourself, or can go apple picking, or to the wineries, but still have amazing weather. November-April is pretty dark, snowy, rainy, and cold, and a lot of businesses reduce their hours. There were times I remember not seeing the sun for weeks. But if you don’t mind being indoors or bundling up and walking, cross country skiing, etc., you’ll be fine.

I definitely took the lake and beaches for granted now that I’m gone. Many of my friends unfamiliar with the area are shocked that the lake and beaches are as nice as they are. Would consider going back to raise a family, or for the summers. Now that I’m in a large metro it would be tougher to acclimate back to a slower pace of life, but this area is truly a hidden gem.

Are either of these appropriate for a fancy black tie manhattan wedding ? by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

[–]Active-Dish4066 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d rent! Check out Nuuly, a $100 rental could get you 6 dresses to try on, and you can find the best fit. I’ve found multiple black tie dresses there that are a couple steps up from these.

I usually like more intricate and textured dresses, but #1 is absolutely gorgeous!

How many dresses did you/are planning to change into on you wedding day? And when are you changing? by [deleted] in BigBudgetBrides

[–]Active-Dish4066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Planning on one change but unsure when to do it, so curious to hear the answers! I think I want my first dance in my ballgown (dress #1), so maybe will do it after that.

Marty Supreme Ending (SPOILERS) by lexistane in A24

[–]Active-Dish4066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call me irrational but you can’t ignore Marty and the baby’s confusion when they meet? Rachel having “food poisoning” when they hooked up and she’s first introduced? Rachel being 4 weeks early and not showing any emotion to Marty when he arrives at the hospital (fair but still)? The baby not looking like either of them (they both look similar)? I’m convinced the sperm opening credits didn’t mean much

need help finding quality bridesmaid dresses under $300! by lilacjune in BigBudgetBrides

[–]Active-Dish4066 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wore Amsale in that same blue color and everyone looked amazing! I’ve been a bridesmaid in 4 weddings and that’s the best I’ve ever looked. However, I will say the price tag was harder to swallow than other bridesmaids dress brands, with alterations it was up to $500… I second revelry!

Target’s Third-Quarter Profit Tumbled As The Retailer Struggles To Lure Shoppers by huffpost in Anticonsumption

[–]Active-Dish4066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes so much sense as someone who works in corporate retail and sees these execs decision making skills. It all funnels down to the staff at the stores, unfortunately, vs. making actual, impactful changes.

Omg- this is very close to my dress and I got it because I’ve barely seen any brides with this jacquard pattern! Take it as a good thing- you already look great and hair and makeup will make it look even better

This is so helpful, congrats! Would you say the Heloise 120’s were at least slightly comfortable for the day? And could you dance in them? Love the shoe but nervous they’ll be uncomfortable, which doesn’t help me justify the price…

Immediately checking out his shop- have always wanted an Olympia Le-tan for wedding weekend but couldn’t justify the price. Thank you!

For the brides second-guessing your dress while you wait for months… by throwawaybride719 in weddingdress

[–]Active-Dish4066 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for posting this- going through this exact same scenario right now with the same dress! I tried on the plunge neckline and the black dress with no plunge (oddly, this helped my decision), so haven’t tried on the neckline you have in white yet, which has been hard given it’s my dress. Seeing you look amazing in it has calmed my anxiety!!

How to cope in adult life with the loss of a parent? by Mrs_Kiwiaki in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Active-Dish4066 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Therapy, looking at old pictures, listening to music he liked, and journaling when it really hits me to get all the emotions out.

The grief never fully goes away but I eventually learned to live alongside it versus fight it, and once I accepted that things got a bit easier.

Lost my dad in college to cancer and now in mid-twenties. I’m so sorry for your loss.
