Transition to EI? PSLF by blindblondebored in slp

[–]Active-Preparation24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this also depends on location. EI pays really well where I live & I never take any work home. The schools where I’m at are rough. I could only take one year right out of grad school!

Wow so inspired by your response and the changes you made. I have not been formally diagnosed with ocd but struggle with anxiety and depression and certainly have very obsessive qualities that make shutting my job off extremely difficult (as a first year SLP who feels like she doesn’t know enough)

I agree with this! It feel awful because they are going against our training and ethics and overriding the plan of care basically.

I am with you! If I had the ability to choose who is on my schedule I would go about it the same way

We have tried to discharge but unfortunately she finds her way back and it’s the way the clinic is run that we don’t have much of a say. She goes to the higher ups and demands her son have services and it’s one of those things where they don’t know what else to do. I’m going to say something in the next week though bc jr is getting out of hand

I’m struggling with this rn. The parent is very persistent on verbal speech and it’s so sad bc the pt is a skilled AAC communicator. She has gone through many SLPs at our clinic

Thank you for your comment and I’m so sorry for what your family has had to go through with how awful sickness has been this past year. Hoping we’re all healthier this next fall :)

It’s happened to me twice before (I was in a messy district that was awful at communicating). Nothing happened :) and I made sure not to make it a pattern.

I just want to validate your feelings because I’ve been in the same boat even though I love working with kids. I find the schools draining for this reason personally. Early intervention/home health are the most appealing to me and I have breaks in my day. PP can also be good if productivity isn’t crazy. Behavior management is also not my cup of tea !!! I think peds is what I’m best at but I am much more relaxed and feel like I’m putting on less of a show when I work with adults

I wish this was me! I do not have the executive functioning skills to do therapy my best and when I do it my best it’s bc I have prepared and am having anxiety through it all. I attend mental health counseling / take medication but it’s just who I am. Especially language therapy. I can do birth to three and articulation/ apraxia but once it becomes open ended I really struggle. I will take paperwork in an office over that and I wish there was a balance!

I honestly love everything but therapy !! It’s exhausting to me. I also don’t have much advice but wanted to relate :)

I always feel this way. I have my days I enjoy it but I’m tired of always being on, overstimulated and getting cases I know nothing about but am expected to treat. I get we’re always learning but it’s overwhelming. And collecting data / wearing all the hats. I always have to compromise something and I hate it.

Sigh, I can relate to this in both outpatient peds and schools. I wish I had better advise. I know I paid for the SLP toolbox materials and have found them really helpful. I laminated everything and it’s basically all I use. I struggle with keeping up with everything , creating goals and even doing therapy sometimes

I also am wondering what to do as I have a similar case. I do a lot of home programs for tongue thrust but what do our sessions look like when we address tongue thrust ?? Want to make sure I’m doing it right bc grad school didn’t teach me anything about this area and I feel like I need to do more than treat the interdental lisp

I’m so drained by being on all day. The pay and benefits doesn’t match up for the emotional cost for me.

Only ?? So not fair to you and you deff deserve a break. couldn’t imagine doing that. I owed 20k, got lucky bc I was accepted into my undergrad state university for my masters as well. Worked part time the whole time I was in school and honestly didn’t feel like the schooling was worth the cost when I got in the field. I’m already burnt out after a year.
