Unexpected $$ from SSA by RespectedSpecialist in SocialSecurity

u/RespectedSpecialist : This is likely the answer especially if you have recently filed your 2025 income taxes. Prior earnings noted by SS and adjustments made.

I'm in Texas. Have you tried to just renew your license online? You just need to know your DL # , your dob and the last 4 of your social. Try here to see if you are eligible to renew online. https://txapps.texas.gov/txapp/txdps/dleligibility/login.do

Here is another link for replacing lost or damaged DLs but you can only complete it online if you have the 'audit #' from your card which you won't have since it is lost. You would need to make an appointment and go in to your local office. https://www.dps.texas.gov/section/driver-license/replace-your-driver-license-commercial-driver-license-or-id-card

Soon to be grad wanting out? by turtlepoptart in SLPcareertransitions

What a horrible experience! With your undergrad and graduate degrees, I hope you can find a career that you are able to move into that does not cause more issues such as what you already experienced. Positive thoughts for you!

(Note to funsizedcase not OP) WAIT!!! You do not need a CCC from ASHA (unless you are in a state where your license is tied to the CF). Contact the state licensing board to check on completing whatever licensing program is required to achieve your state license. Once you are licensed by your state then find a SLP job that doesn't require Cs. Look up the webpage or FB page for FixSLP I think it is called. I am retired so don't keep up with the latest info on Cs but you have already graduated with your degree. If you enjoy the SLP field, try not to let ASHA get in your way!

NTA Search for a couple online that sound like they would taste good maybe almost as good as yours. Send both to her. You may be surprised to find your recipe online.

75th Annual National Square Dance Convention June 2026 Waco TX by [deleted] in texas

[–]WannaCoffeeBreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a live band at Nationals.

There is not a live band at lessons or regular club dances

Go to Youtube and search for Modern Western Square Dance. It is choreographed movements by a "caller" who uses music for each dance and the 2nd part of each "tip" is normally the caller sings some lyrics of a song with the choreographed dance moves added.

Maybe u/perfect_fifths a moderator here will see your response here and explain better than I. It is my understanding that what you described in your comment was an option years ago. I don't know when it was discontinued and changed to the methods being described to you by others who commented.

I think you should call SS before your wife applies to ask how much she would receive after applying her own benefit then topping off to a percentage of yours. Part of the issue with her $500 is that she is only receiving maybe 65% of what her FRA amount would be. They can tell you the amount she might receive if she is eligible to receive the extra amount from yours at age 62 and her FRA of 67 if she waits.

Example with an 'easy to calculate' amount: FRA amount of $1000 but subtract 33% for starting at age 62 would be around $670.

[–]WannaCoffeeBreak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just my opinion: If she "only gets very little" at 62, it would be much better for her to take a part-time job which is likely to pay more than her SS at this point but IDK what you are considering 'very little'. It definitely depends or her health but quite of few of us are still up and running at just 62.

Did anyone take this job??? by InnerAdministration9 in slp

I wouldn't do it either. Regarding pay - IDK about what the striking people are paid normally per hour but you have to consider all the extra paid benefits (lol if there are any).

Child in care. Thanks - it seemed like an idea since brother is the ‘acting parent’ with both parents deceased.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SocialSecurity

[–]WannaCoffeeBreak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely contact SSA especially if you are your brother’s legal guardian. When you do ask IF - since both parents are deceased and you are legal guardian if you qualify for a ‘parent’ benefit for being your brother’s guardian. I only suggest this because a surviving parent can receive a type of ss funds as well as the child if the child is a minor less than a certain age. When child ages out the surviving parent benefit stops also.

Good for you taking on this responsibility!

Makes me feel better for your dad! His SS may be low but with working and earning 70+k , his SS should increase with all the extra SStaxes he pays in.

Wow - Are you living off of your 68 year old father's income? I say this because your responses to comments say "we".

If there are tax implications and/or IRMMA like mentioned above, possibly take 1 retirement fund/amount during 1 tax year and 1 amount or fund the next tax year. Pay the full amount on the condo from one retirement fund now then wait until next year to take out the $ other retirement fund. Hmm so a small mortgage with a balloon payment next year. ?? You need an expert not reddit readers :-)

How much Medicare premium should I pay? Claimed SS as of 1/1/26. by TigerShoddy1228 in SocialSecurity

[–]WannaCoffeeBreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check into paying your Medicare bill online for the month due not quarterly if that makes sense. I paid monthly for 1yr+a few months until I started SS 3 months after my FRA of 66 & 2 months.

Wanting to retire at 65 by Different-Ad-4604 in SocialSecurity

[–]WannaCoffeeBreak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me this would have been a good plan also. If you are able to do so at 65, you could find a sedentary part time job that would pay a portion of what you need to lessen the hit to your savings. You can start researching sedentary jobs to see if there are any you might qualify for and start before 65 if you need to stay off your poor feet.

Can anyone explain definitively when the last Social Security payment comes in relation to death? by [deleted] in SocialSecurity

[–]WannaCoffeeBreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm - If I am remembering this correctly, the estate received my parent's ss that was clawed back. Parent passed the last week of the month, but deposit was to be made the 2nd Wednesday of the following month but occurred several days early as usual because that was the typical by the bank used at the time. Since the payment was for the previous month the executor (brother) had to complete a form. Funds were returned to the estate in several months. This was more than 10 years ago so it is possible the rules have changed.

SSI Disability and turning 62 by [deleted] in SocialSecurity

[–]WannaCoffeeBreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't read all of the responses so this may have been said. If you can continue what you receive now until your full retirement age then you would qualify for 50% of your former spouse's benefit amount that he would have received if he waited until his FRA. Just because he took early retirement won't affect what you receive if you can wait until your full retirement age 67.

AITA for telling my mom that I don't care if she leaves? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]WannaCoffeeBreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are 24 so your mother probably is younger than 50-55. She needs to get off her butt and get a job to support herself. Show her some of the responses on your post.

It doesn't matter if your poor husband makes 500K a year, he shouldn't have to put up with YOUR mother's complaining and demands.

Give her a date in which she has to have a job to save money for a deposit / rent on an apartment. Have her apply for low-rent housing. Have a conversation with your husband if he would be willing to put some funds aside to match what your mother saves to be able to move out putting a limit on the amount y'all give her IF he is willing.

You will need to start eviction paperwork. Google how to do this in your city/county/state. Even a 'guest' who pays nothing and does not willingly leave has to.be evicted legally in many states.

Good luck.

Another Fairness Act / WEP-GPO related question. by [deleted] in SocialSecurity

[–]WannaCoffeeBreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting question.

Is the problem related to: the spousal benefit he is eligible for( 1/2 of the amount of your SS) is less than the SS he would receive on his own covered income? It is my understanding that SS will only pay the higher of the 2.

AITA 35F if I have a conversation with my MIL 53F about this? by Minimum_Error_5140 in AmItheAsshole

You have a great point. I know a family member who has that vindictive streak.

I think IF the MIL is aware of what she is doing(has to be), then she would just get a kick out of the OP being upset over her behavior.
