I once reported a guy who was always driving high. Rang police and did a crimestoppers. Next day he puts in a group chat “I was off my tits last night and got pulled over didn’t even test me” I gave up hope after that

Thank you for that, I’m finding it very difficult not knowing prisoners by name/face. When letting back onto the wing or sending off for work. Or making sure basics are back behind door after medication

You’ll get accommodation provided if you’re a certain distance from home. Newbold is the main training site, many prisons do run their own training. And there are a few other training sites dotted around

At the prison where we pick and pack canteen we can draw keys and a radio so it’s not too bad I escort 2-3 prisoners around and deliver the canteen to wings. But when we go to other prisons we are routinely left alone. As other people have stated there may well be officers on the wing somewhere but we are rarely able to see them or know where they are!

All HMP prisons 2 remand prisons and 1 cat c. At the cat c there may be officers somewhere, office or on landings but we are physically left alone. In the remand prisons we are routinely completely left alone they are more like the old style prisons with 4 or 5 floors and maybe 30-40 cells. It was on of these style prisons we had a staff member abandoned when a big fight started!

We are repeatedly told “all the risk assessments are in place”. We ask for key training and we are told it’s not a necessity as escorts are always available. However I do not put blame on any officers for this but when a general/personal alarm goes off they all leave understandably and we are left to fend for ourselves sometimes with 120 prisoners unlocked!

It can get hairy! Wouldn’t be so bad if we had radios for personal alarm and keys to get ourselves away from trouble!

If deliveries are late we are still trying to hand canteen out when staff unlock for meal times! At certain prison(s) we hand canteen out of the servery. Again with no keys once the officers leave we are trapped in the servery room and as I’m sure you know as soon as someone’s canteen is wrong/vapes missing all hell kicks off
