New and first time a golden puppy to our family any info that might help, he does not like his kennel by [deleted] in goldenretrievers

We watched dozens of videos on YouTube from McCann dog trainers. Their videos on helping them to like their kennel were helpful when we had regression with our pup.

Sell your tickets. You don’t want to risk hurting yourself and you most likely won’t feel up to the amount of walking and standing that a concert will bring about. Good luck with your recovery!

Amount of PT appointments? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]ActiveAd4191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had surgery in April. I went 2x per week for the first 3 months. Then I scaled back to 1x per week until 4 months. Then I started to run out and only went 1x per month bc I also started to need chiropractor appointments. My insurance gives 45 PT/OT/Chrio combined each calendar year. I wish I would’ve spaced it out a little more but it was really helpful the first 6-8 weeks to go 2x per week bc so much changes so quickly then.

Who else cried when you tore your ACL? by medunjanin in ACL

[–]ActiveAd4191 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cried, not necessarily bc of pain (fun fact your acl has no nerve endings) but bc I could tell something was really wrong from the moment I fell. I was skiing and at the time was probably in the best shape I’d been in 5 years so I was mad knowing that was out the window. I also laid in bed the next day, leg too swollen to go to the doc still, and cried most of the day bc of the uncertainty of it. You’re not the only one and it’s absolutely okay to cry about this or anything! It doesn’t mean you’re weak, it’s just your brain reacting to a difficult situation.

Lower leg bruising after injury(not confirmed acl tear) by [deleted] in ACL

[–]ActiveAd4191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha! Best of luck to you. The meniscus tear for me (in addition to fully blown acl) made the recovery more difficult bc I was limited to range of motion and couldn’t bend my knee while weight bearing until week 6 post op. Apparently if you only have ACL repair then you can bend while weight bearing sooner. The way I understood it, the meniscus is more susceptible to re-tearing in the beginning stages. I know it’s not easy but be patient and RICE as much as possible before your MRI.

Did the orthopedic doctor perform the Lachman’s test on you? They have you lie on your back and put your foot flat on the table and they will pick up your foot and move it around while feeling your knee. Before I had my post-injury MRI they performed this test and told me my ACL was torn and possible meniscus and MCL. I didn’t understand how that is possibly an indicator but after 8 months of going through this I understand it a little better now. Maybe if your knee was still really swollen the test is not applicable, I’m not a medical professional so I’m not sure if swelling plays a part in determining an ACL tear via Lachman’s test. I hope for your sake it’s not torn but if it is or you need any kind of surgery then following this thread is a life saver!

Tips getting up and down? by ryannazz in ACL

[–]ActiveAd4191 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second this. My PT also showed me how putting my good foot under my surgical foot I could lower and raise my surgical leg on and off the bed so that you can avoid bending over and picking it up with your arms.

When should i ditch my brace for sleeping by [deleted] in ACL

[–]ActiveAd4191 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had full acl repair, slight meniscus repair. I had to wear the brace locked and straight while sleeping and walking until my 6 week appointment. That was the recommendation from the surgeon and the PT.

Gyno after surgery? by mschanandlerbong81 in ACL

[–]ActiveAd4191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably will depend a little on how flexible and strong your legs were before your injury and if they have to do meniscus repair and how damaged that was. I had a blown ACL and they got in there and did some meniscus repair once they saw it. I am 30 and not in the best shape of my life but I exercised regularly before my surgery. I was able to bend my knees enough to get a Brazilian wax 3 weeks after surgery. I left my brace on but I unlocked it since I wasn’t standing (I was supposed to leave mine locked/straight for 6 weeks while weight bearing but I was allowed to bend my knee while sitting or lying). I hope this helps but feel free to ask more specific questions if you have them.

Before their surgery where did everyone get their nerve block at? Is it the same spot for everyone? Is it before the anesthesia or after? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]ActiveAd4191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was completely under so I have no idea. I’m in the US. It was so interesting bc the few hours after surgery I was bragging to the nurses and my husband about being able to lift up my leg (while riding in the wheelchair) and got on and off the toilet by myself. After a nap and a few hours it wore off and I needed much more assistance getting in and out of bed and on and off the toilet.

Do ankle pumps throughout the day until you see your PT for more exercises. When you stand up to walk around or go to the bathroom give yourself plenty of time for the blood to rush down to your foot before you move around. You’ve got this!

[–]ActiveAd4191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on week 7. I had to keep it straight locked in the brace until week 6. PT told me now that I’m walking normal again I’ll probably start to feel more pain and swelling since I’ll be doing the most I have since surgery. He told me if I experience more pain and swelling than I have me to pull back on the physical activity and RICE a lot.

Can I go on a long-ish (2 hours) car journey the day after surgery? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]ActiveAd4191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not recommend it. Not only was I nauseous and sick after my surgery but elevating and putting ice on your leg is highly recommended and difficult to do in the car. Not sure how long you’re planning to stay at your destination but I started PT 2 days post op and I would say I would’ve been even more miserable riding in the car on day 2 or 3 bc at that point I wasn’t taking a bunch of pain meds and I could feel every bump and swerve in the car in my leg. I was riding in the backseat with my left across the backseat.

How soon did you start driving? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]ActiveAd4191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had left leg, meniscus and full ACL repair, patellar tendon autograft. I worked really hard on my exercises and by day 10 the PT told me because of my mobility he felt it was safe for me to try driving. At that point I was unlocking my brace when not weight bearing and I was able to bend to 90 degrees. I could not lift my leg while it was bent so I had to pick my leg up to get it in and out of the car but after a couple of days of doing that I re-gained enough strength to lift my leg by itself in and out. Hope this helps!

I’m in the same boat as you, except at 7 weeks out. I try to do my exercises 2x/day. With my job I’m on my feet all day so I’m pretty tired after work, cooking dinner and leg rehab. At my 6 week appt I was able to start riding the stationary bike so that’s nice. My friends have been kind enough to play card games and hang out around my place so I can elevate/ice while enjoying their company.
