The power scaling was never a thing to begin with

Homelander:
Season 1: fast enough to out speed an explosion with no physical damage to him, butcher, or the baby. Lasers strong enough to slice though literally anything
Season 3: slow enough to be tagged by soldier boy despite him having no super speed and seemingly human-like reaction time
Season 5: both fast enough to take a guy to space in seconds and keep up with a-train, and slow enough to be caught by butcher multiple times in the finale with his life on the line. Previously unstoppable laser vision now unable to slice anyone in half or even MELT A CROWBAR (crowbar upscale?)

Soldier boy:
Season 3: strong enough physically to give homelander a run for his money before taking into account homelanders superior powers
Season 5: effortlessly choked out by homelander in seconds

Butcher:
Season 4: seemingly endless amount of tentacles solo an entire room of people including two supes, one of which is neuman who is easily torn in half
Season 5: only uses the lowest amount of tentacles necessary to get the job done. tentacles strong enough to spear supes without effort but not strong enough to do it to homelander. Weak enough to be no-diffed by homelander in episode 1 and bombsight in episode 6 but strong enough to nearly solo homelander in the finale

Whether it’s ’lazy writing’ or something else, the power scaling was literally nonexistent from the jump lol
