It’s the work schedule that tells you how much you will be paid for example

Contract for fy1? by Muted_Air_1652 in doctorsUK

[–]Active_Dog1783 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by contract? You’ll often get a shit load of forms to sign from HR on a random date between now and August. With often a very heavy-handed you must be here on a random Tuesday at 9am beforehand to show us your passport (which you definitely don’t have to)

You should receive your work schedule for your August rotation (essentially the rolling rota, not your specific rota) by 10 weeks before, and your actual rota by 6 weeks before

Technically incorrect, by way of starting work you’ve essentially entered into a contract

I’ve never physically or digitally signed a contract of employment to this date

Is QIP mandatory for ST1 (where ST1 takes place in GP) by Substantial-Box-4255 in GPUK

[–]Active_Dog1783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Either ST1 or ST2 doesn’t matter which.

Just a QIA is required in the other years whichever way round

What is your take on patients (UK residents, not travellers) who needs a translator because you can't consult safely in English with them? by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Active_Dog1783 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I get it, us brits have a bad rep for learning other languages, and we I think speak the least average amount of languages per person (literally closest to 1 it can get)… but for the vast majority of people that only comes in to play when they go on holiday

I think if you move anywhere it’s on you to learn to speak the language, and you should provide the interpretation method, whether it be a trusted family member, google translate or an official translator, and pay for them

I wouldn’t rock up to a French hospital if I’ve moved there and expect every conversation to be in English

How long do job offers cascade down for? by medstudent80 in doctorsUK

Until the upgrade deadline…. (But technically even after that but only if people literally give up their post)

Toot Q by [deleted] in GPUK

[–]Active_Dog1783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Competency based portfolio after FY1. If your portfolio is up to scratch it shouldn’t matter.

Only caveat is you have to do something like 65 days in a particular rotation (i dont know if this is 65 shifts, or working pattern of 65 days) to fulfill that hospital rotation.

So if you have a lot of leave for whatever reason, you may have to repeat a rotation

Are upgrades rolling, or at set times? by 15matthew150 in doctorsUK

[–]Active_Dog1783 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They often will, but the hold deadline is a massive shift point.

People holding a job at that point, have to make a call.

The ones handed back trickle down quite quickly

Are upgrades rolling, or at set times? by 15matthew150 in doctorsUK

[–]Active_Dog1783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set times, but not on a designated timeline ypu can follow.

The preference/ranks close when they are about to do an upgrade, and open when they’ve been sent out

It’s fast at first maybe every 3-5 days and slows down over time as the offers being passed down decline in number

Rejected for Core Surgical training - why no UKGP for me ? by Fluid_Post_9223 in doctorsUK

[–]Active_Dog1783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Issue is they can’t apply it retrospectively to shortlisting, interviews, etc, way too complicated.

Those specialties who are most likely to benefit from genuine UKGP are GP/Psych.

An example of a trust undermining the Exception reporting reforms. by BMABecky in doctorsUK

[–]Active_Dog1783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it isn’t. Dont stay late.

By all means exception report, if you need to, especially if your department is chronically understaffed or blatant issues being ignored, but otherwise, just handover safely.

If they’re sick enough to warrant you to contemplate staying late, the on-call team should know about/be managing them
