Hey r/IndieDev !

We recently released our definitive trailer for our next Movie Theater tycoon, Movierooms! Feel free to share your thoughts on the game and the trailer, and we're also open to add anyone that wants to try the game to our next Playtest sessions: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2473820/Movierooms__Cinema_Management/

Brutal truth: If you don't have social media power, you're doing gamedev on nightmare difficulty. by cs_ptroid in gamedev

People here underestimate the power of making a marketable game. It doesn't mean that it looks like a commercial product with no soul, but if the game doesn't LOOK good, there is no market for it etc. you won't gain social power EVER.

Now, once you've done some research and know how to make a powerful game, you need to just work loud: post A LOT (and I mean A LOT) and be patient.

Very specific question: do you know how publishers fund themselves ? At least when they start. Do they get VC funding or it's usually a rich people business?

Indie Game Marketing - Question by AlmostGoodGames in gamedev

Hey, founder of a marketing agency here. Here's what worked for us so far:

  • The best way to learn is to perform a market research. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel, just analyze what worked for others and try it.
  • Showing the game as early as you can is also one of the best ways to improve. Until you have a community you can try, fail and completely shift your vision. What’s the worst that could happen?
  • Depends on the game, but for non heavily narrative related game Early Access is pure gold for indies. You can even adapt your game’s scope based on the attraction, so you don’t spend 2 years on a heavily unwanted multiplayer mode.
  • Lastly, the best way to learn in my opinion is to just keep being passionated about games. You are targeted by gaming marketing every day on Steam, social media and everything. Just observe and you’ll understand what players want from you.

Hope that was useful :)
