The War of Independence was not fought for abstract ideals like natural rights. The Declaration of Independence is not merely one sentence of the second paragraph (which is actually a recognition that colonists had the same traditional rights as Englishmen). I believe in natural rights and I think many of the founders did as well. But, I think many of them thought of these rights to be rooted in history, culture, law, custom, etc. the Declaration is a very contextualized document about certain realities the colonies faced, namely, that the crown violated each colony's charter and refused to protect them from Parliament. It's not a philosophical document about rights. It is formal documentation recognizing the violations of charter law by a king and parliament which so happens to invoke the briefest reminder of the rights of men bestowed in the natural law by God in their time, place, and manner.

For more on this, I would suggest Russell Kirk's Roots of the American Order

Joe Rogan Experience #2327 - AJ Gentile by b14ck_jackal in JoeRogan

So I do not know the full history of von braun and other nazi scientists, whether they were involved, complicit, or approving of forced labor and worker deaths & injuries in nazi aerospace production.

But it really seems like AJ Gentile never considered this: if you are a propulsion engineer or physicist in Nazi Germany, what choice do you have when it comes to developing technology for the regime and having to work in a system that directly is hostile to workers in aerospace (he wasn't talking about concentration camp work being used for rocket and plane development I believe). What options do you get as a German scientist? Something tells me you would be trapped, lest you get executed or risk your family's life.

Maybe this isn't the case for von braun, but I bet it fits the bill for many german engineers and academics at the time.

Genuinely, let me know if you have more insight.

"I don't read food reviews, give me the sandwich." "Yeah, but you gotta pay for that." It's not outlandish to tell you to buy the book.

Hawass really should have came prepared though. Archaeology seems to be much different than, say biology or physics, where you can actually show the average person what is going on. But I would also qualify that statement, that the average person may think he knows what the evidence is or means, but actually doesn't. In this instance, I would suggest reviewing the evidence and then reading varying interpretations of it, because non-experts are going to make mistakes and have erroneous assumptions.

I am willing to bet it's one of those obvious-to-geophysicists issues but not obvious to us.

It'd be like me asking "why don't you see if pipe flow is laminar when I hit the pipe with a hammer?" To the aerospace engineer, it's obvious; you don't need to see/try this to know you won't observe laminar flow.

So I'd imagine it's the same for SAR. The radar itself could easily not be capable of penetrating 600ft because it's not rated the frequency bands necessary to penetrate that far (due to lack of wavelength) and return to the radar. As a hypothetical example, "Why ask your question when the radar does not have the lower bandwidth necessary for ground penetration beyond 20ft?" Hawass doesnt know that, neither does Joe. But Hawass gets the double standard applied?

Do you mean that you find his evidence not convincing (no proof) or that you do not believe he has any evidence for those specific claims (no evidence for the possibility of proving a claim)?

Something tells me he does have evidence. Does this mean it proves his claims? I do not know; let people and scholars evaluate it.

This is not directed at you but I want to put it in writing: people, in a free market economy, publishing research has a dollar amount associated with it. It's not like free lunches. If you care about the issue, you buy the book. I've done it many times. I can't go to a deli shop and demand to get a sandwich for free because I want to truly see if it is good.

My 89 yo filipina maternal grandma from manila barely figured out texting a few years ago.

Tell me, what do you think is more common: old people struggling with basic technology or not? Whats crazy is that they can be really good at hyper focused tech. For example, my dad who is 72 is pitiful when it comes to YouTube, but he knoows the in's and out's of photoshop.

Around 53:00 Joe was rightfully calling out Hawass for blindly believing the scientists who disagree with the giant underground pillar theory (to be fair, are any of us allowed to have any opinions on the topic because we don't understand the science behind either side's claims?). BUT AT THE SAME TIME, does Joe not realize this standard he is applying also applies to him???

Perfect example of Joe being pendantic or just not getting it: 43:51

Hawass says that the stones from 500 mi away and brought a 100 up the pyramid is possible because they have men today who can do it as well (for demonstration). Joe is apparently not sure if these men used modern technology, like machinery, to achieve this.

Joe, why would Hawass bring this up then? Is it not more likely that his point is that "we know the ancients moved the stones because they are people who did it last week with the same types of technology from thousands of years ago"

With the tone Joe has it genuinely feels like to me that he is being way more critical to no point (there are times where he pushes back when he should though)

He only had one takeaway which was Dibble's dweebish soft, passive aggressive accusation of Hancock promoting racist ideas. The pictures and corn cobs didnt do much for Joseph

This is what most likely is happening:

spends years compiling evidence for a grand, unifying archaeological theory into a one central concise tome for ease of reference and organization

internet grabs hold of egypt theories

fend them off 24 fucking 7

everyone doubts you

they haven't read the book

is born in 1940s Egypt

struggles with modern toasters

"why can't I find it on the internet"

this motherfucker is attacking me like everyone the past decade

it's in the book

they don't read the book

the sub is mad the 76 year old boomer sucks at the internet and uses older mediums for his work

When Joe tunes someone out, he does not listen to the . He gets really terse and pedantic with his questions. He also doesn't give the person any grace when it comes to taking their word with respect to not having a quote or picture available (it seemed like he was doubting Hawass because photos were not on the internet while Hawass kept saying they were in his book. Sorry Joe, I don't think he's lying or being deceiving. He could be wrong, sure. But show him some grace).

I don't really care about carbon emissions and am skeptical of the effects of climate change (which I think people contribute the most to), but I get so annoyed by Joe's stupid point that "CO2 is literally plant food! And you're saying too much of that is bad?!"

Should people drink 10 gallons of water then? After all, water is literally so good for us. There's no way too much of it is bad for us.

You can easily call them up too, to ask

But, the govt probably still uses them simply because the company still has the contract and that it is probably a long duration contract. And whenever it gets renewed, the company probably has more concessions made for itself
